        TEXTURES:

        Your choice.

        ENTITIES:

        func_door, trigger_multiple, light

        WHAT TO DO:

Make an even number of brushes (e.g. 8 brushes.) They should be
fairly thin. Arrange them so that they are slightly stacked and
so that half are arranged like a 'plus' sign and the other half
like an 'x', superimposed or placed beneath the 'plus' sign forming
brushes. Make each of these brushes into func_door entities. Set
their 'angle' and 'lip' fields as necessary to have them open and
        close. That's it.

        OPTIONS:

The example uses lights (doesn't really need to be mentioned) and
a trigger_multiple to set off the hatch. Each of the brushes
forming the hatch has the same 'targetname', and the trigger_multiple
entity 'target's the 'targetname'. You might try using even more
brushes to achieve a rounder appearance to the iris.
