VersionChecker Documentation

What is this?

VersionChecker (from now on VC) is a neat little tool to keep
track of any eventual updates of programs, drivers, etc.
It is not in any way limited to do only that, you can use it to
keep up-to-date on virtually any page on the internet.

Why is it?

I got the idea for it when I was lurking around all over the web
looking for new versions of drivers for my hardware. If you have
a piece of hardware in you computer with buggy driver, this soon
gets pretty annoying. The same goes for buggy programs, like ie.
Winamp, that I want to stay up-to-date with.

How does it work?

There's a pretty good "Live Help" in the Config program, so you
shouldn't have any problems figuring the program out.
I'll just take up the basics here.

VC starts when windows starts. After that it'll stay quiet until
a connection to the internet is detected.

Then VC retrives a HTML document specified by you, strips off as
much HTML tags as possible, and searches it for a specified string.

If VC can't find the string, it's probably beacause it's been updated
with a new version. VC will then ask you if you wish to visit
  the site.

Too complicated? Let's take an example:

Say you want to keep track of new winamp versions.
Start the config program, and press the New button.

Name the action description to something like "Program - Winamp".
Specify www.winamp.com as the URL to search.

Head over to www.winamp.com and check for the latest version.
Let's say it is 2.5c. Then, copy "Nullsoft Winamp 2.5c" from
your browser, and paste it into the Check String field.

All done! Now VC will check winamp.com for "Nullsoft Winamp 2.5c"
once/day (if you are connected to the net every day, that is).

When it can't be found, there's probably a new version there,
and VC will tell you that the page was changed.
