You may add extended or expanded memory to your TX. This will allow you to
access memory above 640K with programs like Desqview or programs that are LIM
compatible (like Lotus 1-2-3). You may also use the extended memory as a RAMDISK
(a disk drive in memory).

Regarding adding expanded/extended memory to the TL/2. Is there a particular
board that is better than the other? I went to the R.S. where I purchased my TL
/2, and found that the board they have is, of course typically, extremely
expensive. From my experiences with many years with the CoCo, I know that one
can always do better on the prices. My problem now is, that I really don't know
where to look for third party hardware that will be 100% compatible with the
T1000. Any ideas of where I can start to look would be EXTREMELY welcome and
appreciated.

Thanks

Ed, you're making me cry!!! :-) I'd like to see ya use that rodent. What program
are you trying to use it with? does your CONFIG.SYS look something like this:

	DEVICE=MOUSE.SYS
	BUFFERS=20
	FILES=20

The Config.sys has to be in your ROOT directory. You then might have to tell
the program you're trying to use with the mouse about the mouse.

Deskmate has a menu for configuring mice. Were there any such requirements
with your mousable application??

reported a friend having no problems but he was using an EGA or VGA card. Also
was able to use the 5i 50 driver software with the invisible bd. Supposedly AST

Why don't we just get a full size pc expansion box then we could try a wider

tandy 1000's. Seem as though when you try to switch back to vga it can't and
defaults to ega colo r or stay in ega mono if you were in ega mono orig(I used
basic and screen 10 OK or not OK to verify the mono and the other extendid
screens(7-9) to see if at least in EGA.). Boca said only known soln is reboot
to get card back in VGA. I have some pgms(n ot Utilities) that allow me to
select VGA or EGA and they seem fine. So I can use them to switch back to vga

As you can tell I'm very happy right now because several programs that wouldn't

Why doesn't Radio Shack provide a new rombios or an integrated software patch

The expansion bus on the TL/2 is standard. You can use any memory board that
will physically fit into the computer and is "standard".

You might try JDR Microdevices (800-538-5002 tech support) for the card.

Your TL should first be taken to 768K (so video memory doesn't take up any of
the base 640K). PCS offers this expansion for $49 (specially for the TL). You
can reach them at 800-633-1647.

I have been following your mouse problem. If you like, we can narrow the problem
down and find a solution.

First, disconnect your switchbox and plug the mouse directly into the serial
port. If you have taken MOUSE.SYS out of the CONFIG.SYS file, at the DOS prompt
type MOUSE.COM. Once the driver has loaded, try your mouse.

I have to ask this question -- Your mouse is a SERIAL device and not PARALLEL,
right? If you have a BUS MOUSE, it is parallel and will not work.

you try it on someone elses machine or even to Radio Shack to see if they can

Pleas type in lower case and not UPPER CASE. It's easier on the eyes. Whenever

Hi all! I've uploaded the latest Version of "Flight of the Enterprise" again.
For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about it's a Video Game I'm
writing for the Tandy 1000/PC Jr Graphics Computers. The Program currently
takes up about 469K of Memory when all the Graphics are loaded so You MUST
have a Minimum of 512K on your Tandy 1000 to run it. I've tested the current
version on My 1000(A) with 640K as well as a TL & TL/2 at my local Radio Shack.

For those of you with the TL/2, Please note, When run on the TL/2 today it has
Two Screens that have overflowed their Arrays so the Next version will be
fixed. It still runs fine on the TL/2 except for the Opening Screen is garbled
and when hitting your "B" key to "Beam Down" to Rigel 7 you'll see another
garbled picture. Other than these two screens it works as planned on the TL/2
all the way to the end (That's where we have another Problem, the Graphics
array has also overflowed over the TL/2's Environment Space including the
Loaded portion of Command.com so
you'll have to reboot after running it.)

"Flight of the Enterprise" is Written in QuickBasic 4.5 with Joe
Albrecht's Tandy 1000 Video Support Driver GRAFIX Version 2.0. Any comments
or suggested improvements are welcome. It ran Perfectly on the Plain old TL
with absolutely no problems. The Computer Expert Resident at Radio Shack did
inform me that neither of the Machines had the Extra 128K of Video Memory so
if you run it on one that has it, Please let me know how it does on your
machine. Chow Fer Now...Jax...

     Attention 1000SL owners!
     From: CTAVARES To: ALL

This may be old news, but it's new to me, so I thought I'd pass it on. I saw a
mention of the /A option on the 'setuptl' program for the 1000TL computer. I
thought that the SL wasn't much different from the TL, so I tried 'SETUPSL /A',
a combination not documented anywhere I know of. The sonofagun WORKED! I got
five additional screens of setup options. Could come in handy.

Also, in the Tandy Specific database, I found a program by David E. Stewart that
is advertised for the TL only, and allows command line sound sampling and
playback. They work without problems on the SL also, except that the playback
of the example sound is a little slow. Sounds sampled on the SL come out with
no problems.

     1000SX Disk Drive, etc
     From: SKIDKID To: ALL

First, a Disk Drive question . . . . I have a 5.25 360K drive from a TAndy
1000SX (it's a TEAC drive, I think the model nbr is FD-55BV-75-U). A friend of
mine had a drive go bad in a Packard Bell machine of his. Can he use this drive
in that machine??? The reason I ask is that I thought there was something
peculiar about the drives (interrupts used, jumper settings????) on the drives
in the TAndy machines.
Clarification or enlightenment would be greatly appreciated!!!
     Now, a Telenet question . . .
I was logging onto Telenet at 1200 until my modem got smoked in a thunder
storm here. So I'm upgrading.
When I logged at 1200, I sent a special command to Telenet taht I got outta
PCM magazine (which one it is, I'm not sure, since I've automated the logon and
don't pay attention to it). I know to log on at 2400 I'll hafta find a Telenet
that will let me on at that speed, but is there a special log on sequence for
2400 also???? and if so, can you tell me what it is????
While I'm on the subject . . . is it possible to get on this board at 9600
if I dial the number that is listed as tthe direct connect number in my Delphi
book????
Any help on these subjects would be greatly appreciated!!!
                  Thanx,]

     Using 4Dos on the T1000SL
     From: CTAVARES To: ALL

I just got the shareware version of 4DOS, and I ran into some interesting
problems trying to get it to work on my Tandy 1000SL.

The SL has MSDOS 3.3 in ROM, and I set it to use this ROM to boot up, as it
makes the process faster, and that way I don't need DOS on my hard drive.
Setting up 4DOS requires putting a "SHELL=" line into the config.sys file. The
first time I did, I hit " instead of : and got a locked system with a "MISSING
OR INCORRECT COMMAND PROCESSOR" message. No problem, right? Just boot off a
floppy. Guess what? When the SL is set to boot off ROM there is NO WAY TO BOOT
FROM A FLOPPY! I had to remove my hard card in order to regain control.

Well, I fixed that problem, and now 4DOS is working, except for ONE really
nagging bug. I'm still set to run off the ROM, which the computer sees as drive
D:, and the COMSPEC variable is automatically set to D:\COMMAND.COM at startup.
Normally, this isn't a problem, since the setup program allows the user to tell
the computer to look for autoexec.bat and config.sys on drive C:.
Unfortunately, 4DOS keeps going to drive D: and ignores my autoexec.bat file!

I'd like to get this thing working, since it has a lot of features I like. But
I also don't want to go to all the trouble of trying to put DOS on my hard drive
(I've filled 29 Megs). Any suggestions, anyone? Also, does anyone know of a
way to get the SL to boot off floppy even when it's set to the ROM?

I'm using 4dos on my 100 tl/2. Use the setup???/a option and set to boot from

shell=c:\4dos/p. You must have 4dos.com and associated files in your root.

Hi Keith,

Yes, your friend should be able to use the drive on his P.Bell machine. Teac is
a standard drive.

As for the Telenet question - to find the 2400 baud phone number in your area,
call 1-800-546-1000

After you connect, hit ENTER 3 times. answer the question with your area code
and the 3 digit exchange part of your phone number. Then at the next prompt,
type MAIL. Use PHONES for both the username and password.

You will then see a menu. Select the item you want and the rest is just pick an
item.

The Teac drive is standard and should work very well in the Packard Bell
machine.

2400 baud access to Telenet is much the same as 1200, except you send "@D"
instead if "<Enter>D<Enter>". This identifies the logon as 2400 bps. Use "D1"
for TERMINAL=, as you did for 1200 bps access. Mike

You can use the 4DOS "4dshell" command to set up a secondary shell, Chris. This
will take care of your ROM and COMSPEC problem, as it allows you to load from
one path and then swap to the secondary shell. For example, if you wanted to
load 4DOS from the directory of D:\4DOS and then swap to C: drive, you would
place this line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT:

set 4dshell=/s:dD:\ /L:C:\4dos

Take a look at the "4dshell" command in the documentation.

If you would like to go to the PC SIG Forum, you can get a great deal of
information on scanners. There is a "thread" in that Forum on scanners.

Once in the PC SIG Forum, simply type READ 25460. After you have read that
message, type FOLLOW at the Forum prompt. This allows you to "follow" that
"thread". Simply hit the ENTER key after you read each message and the next
message in the "scanner thread" will be presented.

You might want to "buffer capture" these messages and read them at your leisure,
as the thread is rather long (but it contains a great deal of information on
scanners).

Yes, I've heard of it. However, it won't save you loong didtance charges for
calling Telenet... you would still have to call you "local" Telenet number to
use it. PCPursuit allows you to access other area codes around the country and
dial out to exchanges in those area codes to call BBS's in other states. What
that saves you is the out-of-state LD charges.

Also, the monthly charge for PCPursuit is now $30.00 per month.

I know how you feel about having to call long distance to access Telenet, I've
done it for years. :-)

able to access that Graphics mode. The SL/2 & TL/2 for some reason handles the

GRAFIX to access that mode but you will have to reboot to access any other
graphics mode after accessing the 640x200x16 Color Mode on the /2 Machines. If
you have not run into this BUG please be aware that it exists and is now being

doing differently than the Original SL & TL).

I believe that you are correct about the check-up for your hard drive. It
appears as if your read head is getting stuck when sent to the landing zone. The
drive is "sealed" and you would need to break this seal in order to affect your
own repair.

If your drive is over 3 years old, I (personally) would not repair it. New
drives are more expensive than the repair but the life of a drive is only about
5 years.

You can also use it as a cache. Seems like a waste but I use the whole two meg
as a cache/ram disk. Flash is the product I use. If you allocate the whole 2 meg
as a cache and, use their ram disk software, the ram disk is collapsing and
returns any un-used memory to the cache. If you reboot your machine ( without

living on borrowed time. When it finally gives up the ghost, it won't be useful

is doing great but I do daily backups just in case. To get it running, the tech
had to really zap it with a lot of juice. He is sure that by doing tht he gave
the motor about 10 years worth of use. I figure on keeping it and letting the

     New Modem
     From: SKIDKID To: MISAL

Mike,
First off, thanx for the clarification on the logon script for 2400!!
Now I've just got more modem questions . . .
I got a great deal on a Courier HST (9600) and went ahead and broke the old
piggy bank open for it. . . but the questions now abound!!
CAn I logon here at 9600??? If so, should it be through the diret dial
nbr?? If not, should I leave the MNP error correction stuff on when I connect .
. . or turn it off (the book on this modem says it can mess up the connection to
some modems if they don't recognize it and needless to say, I don't need to be
making extra LD calls) Right now, I've pretty much got it cut back to a normal
modem and am trying to read and understand the book that came with it. Any help
or input would be sincerely appreciated!!!
    Thanx,
                       Keith

     VGA and SX
     From: RLYOUNG To: ALL

I finally got a VGA for my SX. It's a CTX multiscan. I got a deal I couldn't
refuse. The only thing I have a reservation about is the VGA card. It's a
no name Paradise clone. It has 512 on it.

The manual says if you have any devices that use C000 thru DFFF, to have those
devices use another address. It goes on to give examples like: EMS cards,
tape backup systems, network cards, and some hard drive controllers.

Well I have EMS and my WD hard drive controller does indeed use C800. It runs
ok except for the only two worthwhile VGA games I have.

Centurion and Starflight II run much slower. The graphics are super but the
games run SLooowwly and even the sound slows down.

I also had to start my 286 ACCelerator card at the alternate address which is
E something to get it into the 286 mode.

Now I'm wondering if a different card ( ATI or a real Paradise ) might solve
these problems.

If anyone has VGA on a 1000SX, I'd sure like to hear some ideas or experiences.

Thanks,

Reggie

The HST is a great modem! Welcome to the ranks! Unfortunately, none of the
networks (TYMNET, TELENET), or DELPHI currently have HST's. If your HST is the
dual standard model, you can log in at 9600 using one of TELENET's 9600 nodes.
I am not sure if Delphi will charge you more for the fast connect however, send
mail to SERVICE to find out for sure.

As for an MNP connect, all 2400 baud TELENET nodes suport MNP. If that is
your access method, leave MNP on. But, disable data compression, especially if
you are going to be downloading archived files. Many BBS's throughout the
country have HST's, you will find the speed amazing!

John,
Thanx for the info. . . Unfortunately, this isn't one of the dual standard
modems (the guy I bought it from was upgrading to the dual standard, so I got
this one for a pretty good price) Does this mean I can't log onto TELENET 9600
??? And if I can . . . how can I log onto 9600j with TELENET @ 9600 and then
connect to a BBS that is running at 2400??? Do I hafta make special
arrangements on my end, or does the connection between the node and the BBS take
care of that????
I tried logging onto TELENET 2400 this time with the error correction set to
&M4 (which says it will use error correction if it gets the correct signal from
the other modem, but switch back to normal if it doesn't connect to a modem with
error correction), but when I logged on for some reason, it was missing some of
the letters in the things I have my script looking for (i.e. my script is to
wait for "Username", but it came to me as "Usernme", is this something strange
happening because of the &M4 or just a bad connecg???
I do have one local board that is on HST and I'm amazed at the speed at
which this thing will download using ZModem (I know I'm supposed to use YModem-
G, but I haven't gotten it set up yet). I'm hoping this is gonna save me some
money on the LD telephone charges, at least that how I'm justifying it to myself

     New Tandy Machines
     From: KZIN To: ALL

I communicated with Ed Juge a couple days back and, while I'm
still waiting to post the info on the new DeskMate version, here
are some quoteable quotes from Ed on the new line of Tandy
computers to be announced July 25 (you saw it here first):
"The RL [line] is a completely new approach. We designed
it from the ground up to be a home machine for users who have no
interest in technological toys, and no need for data processing-
type uses. It's a new market, not some subset of the present
market. And if traditional PCs and apps held any interest at
all, these folks would have already bough. (Yes, it is a fully-
functional PC compatible, too.) What we tried to do was apply PC
technology to things everyone already has to do in the home.
IBM, in contrast, is offering a stripped-down office
machine, bundled with the simplest pseudo-business apps they
could find, and are handing them to the customer with, "This is
really easy to use (all 5 inconsistent interfaces) ... we hope
you'll find something to use it for."

        <end of quote>
More on DeskMate-the-upcoming in a few days.

I have sx + boca vga had some initial problems with some programs but a dos
upgrade from 3.20.00 to 3.20.22 helped and a big help was a biosfix pgm that
fixes what your computer thinks it has for a video display. See Tandy 1000
/Pardise bios fix in the PC sig under the utility topic database and type Read
Tandy 1000... as above. Yes games run slower because your CPU has to work with
a 640x480 display instead of a 640x200 so thats over twice as many pixels. Plus
it does its work thrugh the expansion bus as
opposed to on board. I also have the 286 card but have no problems with the
default memory address. I don't have a HD or Mem card so I can't help there.

I must admit that I am not sure why PCTools/Mace only reports 256K on a 512K

The CM-11 monitor is faster because it has a much smaller video array to present
than does a VGA monitor. If you "stream" more characters along a given bus line

Did that thing say "some" devices that use C000-DFFF? Jeez, every Western
Digital hard drive controller I've seen uses C800 as the primary and CA00 for
the alternate ROM addresses. If that's a Paradise clone, it's likely a true-blue
Paradise Professional. Look on the card for "(C) WDC" to be certain. I'm
surprised they'd tempt fate by using that section of memory.

Jim,

From the best I can determine, there are two style of IDE drives available:
8-bit and 16-bit. The SL/2 and TL/2 use an 8-bit IDE drive since both are based
on the PC and XT architecture. Definitely check the ads for Megahaus, Hard
Drives International, and other mail-order distrubtors. For the price Tandy asks
for a 40 megabyte drive, you can get an 80 meg drive and 120 meg drives aren't
that much more expensive.

The main chip is WDC Greg. I laughed when I read that one paragraph. Here is the
exact reading:

There is a major restriction on the use of the manual 16 bit BIOS configuration
of your 16 bit VGA card. You must make sure that nothing in your system besides
the 16 bit VGA uses any of the system memory addresses between C0000 hex and
DFFFF hex. The locations C0000 through DFFFF hex represent a 128KByte address
region mapped above the 16 bit VGA card's video display memory region. This
memory area may typically be used by several kinds of equipment including (but
not limited to):

	EMS expanded memory boards,
	tape back-up systems,
	network boards,
	some add-in hard disk controllers.

WARNING!!! Trying to use a device that uses any part of this
range of system memory addresses in conjunction with your
16 bit VGA card manually configured for 16 bit BIOS operation
may prevent the system, the 16 bit VGA card and the other
		associated devices from functioning properly.

I've had no problems as I don't have a 16 bit machine so...I guess I'm off the
hook.

     Adding high density drives

I am thinking about replacing my low density drives . . .

. . . on my Tandy 1000TL with high density drives. Does
anyone here know how this is done on a TL? I mean, I know I must get a
different controller to handle the high density drives, but is the onboard
controller first disabled or disconnected? Someone said he was not sure the
TL's built-in controller could be disabled.

Presently, I have my hard drive in the second 3.5 slot on the TL. I'd prefer
to keep the 720K 3.5 and add a 1.44, as well. Could I just move the hard drive
somewhere else nearby and use the second 3.5 slot for a floppy? I mean, the
hard drive does not have to be in a slot does it?

I see controllers advertised as "secondary controllers." Do I have to set up
the high density controller as a secondary controller?

Has anyone already faced these questions and found the best avenue to go?

Steve, I've downloaded your picture demos, but this is my first download of the
Startrek game version, 7/8/90. I'm using a plain old 1000TL without the 128K
video upgrade memory. The game does work well on the TL as you said in the 7/8
/90 message, but there are two bugs I have come across. Pressing the UP arrow
key to change sector location displays the help screen on first key press and on
the second key press moves the sector location. This only happens with the UP
arrow, Left, Right and Down work fine. THe other bug is that the alien is not
always deleted after the counter registers a kill.

Thanks for making a game that I can win at. Most commercial games are too fast
for me. Of course I didn't know what was happening the first couple of times I
played the game, kept getting dumped to the end screen till I put up the shields
as soon as the game started. I'd like to make a suggestion as a result of this.
When the end screen appears a key press could be required to quit or another key
press to rerun without the need to reload all the graphics each time.

A point of curiosity. I was able to load the demo screens into PX1000d2 and
Mouser drawing programs. I don't seem to be able to do this with the game
picture screens even after changing the extension to .PIC. Is there any program
that will change these screen or other basic drawing pictures into .GIF format
so I can use them with CSHOW. Saw the Star Trek episode with the Rigel 7 picture
the other night. Looked just as good on Tandy 1000 TGA as on the TV screen, all
the colors seemed to be the same.

V.32 modems, which you would have no problems connecting to with a Dual

As for the bad chatactes with MNP on, what's your initial sequence to TELENET?

If you have Norton's Advanced Utilities, there is a program called SF.EXE.
Safe Format is what it stands for. It will bring up a menu on which you can
choose the type of drive you want to format from the list.

Norton is a "must have" set of utilities that should be in every hacker's

Carolyn,
Look in your DOS 3.3 manual for a command called DRIVPARM. It is usually
discussed in the section on writing your config.sys file. This command allows
you to define the individual disk drive parameters (size, sectors, tracks, etc.)
that will overide your default settings. Putting this command with the
appropriate modifiers into your config.sys file should allow you to get to all
the 3.5 tracks.

Assuming that the 720K drive is B:, try:

FORMAT B: /t:80 /n:9

...............or

you may place this line in your CONFIG.SYS file:
DRIVPARM=/d:1/f:2

(the /f:2 is actually not needed as the DRIVPARM default is for 720K drives)

Are you sure the on - board controller won't handle HD? Could Tandy
have actually added that capability? If you get another controller, you will
have to disable the on - board controller to avoid conflicts.

Jim,

If I remember correctly, the data separator in the TL and TL/2 will handle
high-density but the 250/500k bps pin (standard/high density select) is
hard-wired to 250k bps. The on-board floppy controller cannot be disabled
without cutting a lot of traces on the motherboard. There are other limitations
but I can't remember what they are offhand. I do know that in a standard PC
clone you can add a secondary floppy controller to run a third and fourth drive
- but it can't override the primary controller to take over the A: or B: drives.
The question is whether or not a secondary floppy controller will work in a
Tandy 1000. A few manufacturers have told me no.

said so before but I have two 3.5 inch drives, and 640K memory. I am still using
version 2 something of Dos. If you can tell me how to substitute version 3.3 for
version 2 I would buy the better version. As I did sday, I wish Tandy in its
infinite wisdom did not and would not ever build Dos, Deskmate or anything else
in their computers. If I ever do have the moolah to buy a new system, it will
not be Tandy unless I can get a bare machine and "dress it" myself. See you.

run slower than with the CM-11 I had. Starflight II and Centurion are the

Haven't had any problems yet. I'm thinking of changing the card for the ATI

Well, the prospects don't sound promising, Jim.

Just for the record, I contacted Tandy . . .

. .. and told them I would to like to replace both the
3.5 and the 5.25 low density drives in my Tandy 1000TL with high
density drives, and asked how to go about it.

The official response:

-----------------------------------------------------------------
"Tandy Corporation/Radio Shack does not support installing a high
density drive in your Tandy 1000TL computer as the on-board Floppy
Drive Controller (FDC) circuitry is not designed to work with this
type of drive. The FDC circuitry only has the capability of
recognizing a low density disk drive.

"As well, since the FDC circuitry has no option for being disabled
through jumpers or dipswitches, this circuitry cannot be changed to
setup as the secondary address. The BIOS ROM does not support a
secondary FDC address, thus precluding the installation of a
controller card set to the secondary address."

THANK YOU,

RADIO SHACK COMPUTER SUPPORT SERVICE CC/dp
-----------------------------------------------------------------

So, does this mean it cannot be done, or just that they don't want anything to
do with it?

Any Tandy store can order it for you. It's $12.95 (approximately). It's not a
free upgrade. As a matter of fact, I'm really sort of upset that Tandy didn't
notify the owners of 1000SX machines about the upgrade when it was made. I
bought the first SX s old in the Chicago area for work, and had lockup problems
for a number of years. Even the local "repair shop" had the machine for 2 weeks
trying to find the problem. Even though it was after the change to 3.2.22 they
didn't bother to recommend the upgrad e.

Does anyone have any info on, or a reference to the use of Modes 8,9,10 from C

Sure sounds like it may not be worthwhile to do it.

The BIOS part wouldn't kill the project since you can use a third party
driver, but if you can't disable the on-board controller without cutting
traces I'd be tempted to not do it.

Hi John,
I was having some problems getting logged on originally and finally got it
straightened out . . . it was the @D <RETURN> sequence that you mentioned.
However, I AM using 7,E,1 because I thought there was something strange about
the packet switching stuff on Telenet that required one bit for packet ID or
something to that effect. Am I wrong about this?? All my other logons are set
to 8,N,1 except the Telenet one, but all the other boards are direct connect.
thing!! But that's the way it goes I guess. I'm just so excited to be able to
hit anything at 9600 that it doesn't really matter.
Hey, if TELENET connects to DELPHI at 9600 is there a direct dial number
that I can use?? Or does TELENET just handle things to make it appear that it
running that fast??
Questions, questions and more questions . . .
It seems the more I'm told, the more I wanna know . . .

Yup you are wrong. TELENET upgraded their network some time ago for 8-bit
connections. Using the @D sequence you may use 8,N,1. If you continue with the
7,E,1 connect use @<RETURN> the @D tells TELENET that you want an 8 Bit data
path.

TELENET doesn't connect to Delphi the way you do (through a dial-up). Delphi is
hard wired into TELENEt's network, so there are no 9600 baud dialups.

Zmodem is still in beta, Keith -- but, will be coming soon.

If you find that you consistently prefer to use a particular file
transfer method, you can make that your default selection by using the
    profile commands

    /FX_METHOD YMODEM
    /SAVE

The same names are used in the /FX_METHOD comman the
DOWNLOAD menu. The /SAVE command causes your preference to be retained
for your next login. You can find out your preferred file transfer
    method by typing

    /FX_METHOD

Once you have selected a preferred file transfer metho override it
temporarily is to type DOWN MENU to get to the DOWNLOAD menu.
Or, you can type /FX_METHOD NONE and /SAVE to clear out your
    preference.
