TestNet V2.2 (c) 1995-96 Allen Hackworth

Software for Testing in school, home, or business. Requires MS_DOS
and 1.3 megs of hard disk storage. Runs on a Novell network
or on stand alone machines.

You are licensed to examine this program as shareware for a period of
six weeks. If you continue to use this program after six weeks, buy
a licensed version. TestNet costs $29.95 for a single user (per machine)
or $299.00 for a network license. A licensed version will have your name
or your school's name printed on the main menu screen.

TestNet can be used for any subject: manufacturing, computer-assisted
learning, literature, history, foreign languages, English, etc.

WHAT IS TESTNET?

It (1) aids in the creation of tests or drills, and it (2)
manages these tests or drills. It aids creation by providing a
special screen and word processor for convenient writing and
editing. It manages information by presenting the tests/drills:
(1) on the screen or (2) by sending them to a printer. All
program choices are listed on pull down menus.

FEATURES

1. Specialized word processor for creating tests.

2. Tests can also be created by combining test or by selecting
questions from an existing test bank.

3. A name/student-number file can be created per class. A
teacher can then require a student to type his or her number
before taking the test. The student's name will be associated
automatically with the test and score.

4. An editor allows easy editing of an existing test, of student
names and numbers, and a few other files used by TestNet.

5. If the test is set for Drill Mode, questions keep returning
randomly until they are answered correctly.

6. If the test is set for Test Mode, the questions do not appear
again unless the student places that question on hold. To do
this the student types z for the answer.

7. A tutorial response can be shown if the student's answer is
wrong.

8. All missed questions can be reviewed at the end of the test.

9. All tests are scored immediately and the scores and students'
names are saved.

10. Two password systems allow protection: a. for all menu
choices except taking a computer test; b. for taking a computer
administered test. Each test can have its own password. On a
network, each teacher has his or her own password.

11. All features are quickly available with pull down menus.
Thus, it is easy to remember how to use the program.

12. Test results can be printed to the screen or to a printer.
Test results can be viewed on the screen in various sorted
orders.

13. All the data associated with each question can be reviewed
on the screen by the teacher.

14. Questions can be printed and grouped according to:
true/false, multiple choice, and completion.

15. Questions can be printed with the user picking only selected
questions from the data base.

16. Questions can be printed sequentially, just as they appear
in the data base, or randomly.

17. An answer sheet always accompanies each printed test.

18. Users can select either color or monochrome depending on the
type of monitor.

19. An evaluation of the test gives the following information:

a. how many students took the test; b. the average score; c.
the high and low scores; d. the range; e. which questions were
missed how many times; g. the standard deviation.

20. Tests can be configured in any combination of the following
ways. These settings remain until changed by the teacher. An
easy configuration screen is self-explanatory:

a. Test or drill mode t/d b. Break key works y/n c.
Capitalization required in answers y/n d. Show tutorial response
y/n e. Missed questions can be reviewed y/n f. Test Can Be Taken
Again and Again y/n g. A student ID is required to test y/n h.
How many questions are presented for each test i. Timed test y/n
How many minutes for the test j. Exact answer required for a
completion question y/n k. Test may be repeated y/n

21. For completion questions, the teacher can enter several
words. If the student types any one of the words entered by the
teacher, the question will be counted right if this option is
turned on. This is a most useful feature.

22. A slide show helps orient new users.

23. The documentation is always available on the pull down menus.

24. Programmed to be networkable. One copy of the EXE files
serves all teachers, yet each teacher has his or her own
passwords and tests.

25. TestNet will read PCX graphic files, thus allowing a teacher
to use pictures when presenting a test.

GETTING STARTED

Create a new directory called C:\TESTNET
Copy TESTNET2.ZIP to C:\TESTNET and unzip the file.

To start TestNet, log to C:\TESTNET, type TNET, and press ENTER.
Once loaded, under the QUIT menu choice, select DEMO. Also,
under the TAKE TEST menu choice, try the test called TRIVIA2.

If you install TestNet on a dirctory other than C:\TESTNET, you must
change some information in the file DRIVE.BAS. Use a DOS text editor,
load DRIVE.BAS, and type your directory location in the section where
you see TESTNET. Don't delete any of the quotes, commas, or back
slashes. If your new location were H:\APPS\TESTNET, you DRIVE.BAS file
would look like this: "H:\APPS\TESTNET\","",""
