USING GYMEET TEMPLATES FOR Microsoft EXCEL 4.0

This disk contains 12 templates in addition to this readme file.
They are:

     a. GYMEET3.XLT
     b. GYMEET4.XLT
     c. GYMEET5.XLT

     d. QUADMET3.XLT
     e. QUADMET4.XLT
     f. QUADMET5.XLT

     g. SIXMEET3.XLT
     h. SIXMEET4.XLT
     i. SIXMEET5.XLT

     j. TRIMEET3.XLT
     k. TRIMEET4.XLT
     l. TRIMEET5.XLT

Each can be used to keep score for a men's gymnastics meet. The
difference will be only in how many scores you wish to count
towards team score.

	1. Dual Meets

GYMEET3.XLT will count 3 scores out of six for team score.
GYMEET4.XLT will count 4 scores out of six for team score.
GYMEET5.XLT will count 5 scores out of six for team score.

	2. Triangular Meets

TRIMEET3.XLT will count 3 scores out of six for team score.
TRIMEET4.XLT will count 4 scores out of six for team score.
TRIMEET5.XLT will count 5 scores out of six for team score.

	3. Quadrangular Meets

QUADMET3.XLT will count 3 scores out of six for team score.
QUADMET4.XLT will count 4 scores out of six for team score.
QUADMET5.XLT will count 5 scores out of six for team score.

        4. Six-way Meets

SIXMEET3.XLT will count 3 scores out of six for team score.
SIXMEET4.XLT will count 4 scores out of six for team score.
SIXMEET5.XLT will count 5 scores out of six for team score.

Depending on the meet, choose the appropriate template. Memory
requirements are obviously greater for the six team meet template than the
dual meet template. Depending on your computer, you may notice a slower
performance if you are keeping score for a six team meet. Dual meets
should be almost immediate.

Each template is set up to record scores given by 1-4 judges
and record either the score of judge 1, the average of judges 1 and 2,
or the average of the two middle scores of the 4 judges (in the average
column) from which team score and ranks are then computed.

                          ** IMPORTANT NOTE **

DO NOT ENTER ONLY THREE SCORES! IN SUCH A CASE, THE TEMPLATE WILL ONLY
UTILIZE THE SCORE OF JUDGE 1 AS THE AVERAGE SCORE, WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY WRONG!
THE FIRST AND ALWAYS NECESSARY SCORE IS FOR JUDGE 1, YOU CANNOT DIRECTLY
ENTER AN AVERAGE. IN THE EVENT YOU HAVE AN EXHIBITION PERFORMER WHOM
YOU DO NOT WISH TO INCLUDE IN THE TEAM SCORE, LIST HIS SCORE UNDER JUDGE 3
ONLY AND IT WILL NOT BE INCLUDED FOR TEAM SCORE.

                               *********

All of these templates must be used with EXCEL 4.0, they are not standalone
programs.

Directions for use:
1. Copy the templates to the directory on your hard drive where
you wish to store your gymnastics results. If necessary,
create such a directory. (for example: \SCORES )
     For example:
     1. At the C:\> prompt: type MD\SCORES (enter)
          to create a directory.
     2. At the C:\> prompt: type COPY A:\*.* C:\SCORES (enter)
to copy the files to the newly created SCORES
          directory.
     3. Start WINDOWS by typing WIN at the C:\> prompt.
     4. open EXCEL 4.0.
     5. To use the template:
          a. click on the "OPEN" icon.
          b. follow the windows protocols to enter your C:\SCORES
directory within the OPEN dialog box.
          c. depending which team score you want (3,4, or 5)
             highlight the appropriate file either:
               GYMEET3.XLT
               GYMEET4.XLT
               GYMEET5.XLT
or any of the other templates,
          and then click on OK.

     6. Enter the information as called for. Using the TAB key
rather than the ENTER key after input will allow you to
enter the data and move to the next box at the same time.

     7. A TEMPLATE IS A READ ONLY FORMAT DOCUMENT THAT DOES NOT
SAVE DATA! IMMEDIATELY on opening and entering names you
should save the data by using the 'SAVE' icon or using save
on the file menu. Excel will prompt you for a new name of
eight letters, and will automatically give it the extension
xls. You can continually reuse the template as you cannot
make changes to it nor save data on it. In addition, each
template has its own data and formulas protected so you cannot
overwrite them nor enter data in the wrong cell.

     8. You MUST periodically save the file while you are
entering scores, similarly to working on any computer file.
     Accidents happen. SAVE OFTEN.

     9. You should open the SAVE AS dialog box and the open the
options dialog box to check the box for automatic backups.
With this box checked, EXCEL will also make a .BAK copy
each time you save the file.

     10. Features:
          1. The template will pick out and add either 3, 4, or 5
scores for team score, depending which template you use.

          2. The template will automatically rank the gymnasts
          for each event.

          3. If you enter the all-around names spelled the same as
you did in the events, the template will pick out the all-
around competitors, and enter the scores in the all around
area, also ranking the all around competitors.

          4. If an all around competitor does not have a score
in a particular event, the template will enter "#" in
the score area. This is a function of EXCEL.
