                            "Lines Arranger" V1.3

                              by John Augustine

LA (Lines Arranger) was written using Assembly. It requires very little
memory and no "installation".

  PLEASE NOTE:

This is not a "free" program. A small donation will be greatly appreciated.
For a minimum donation of $5.00 (U.S.A.), as an added bonus, pick one or more
programs that you would like to receive free from "OTH-PGMS.TXT". See the end
of this document for more information.

Please read, "IMPROVE.TXT" (use "HELP.EXE") for improvement information.

LA makes it easy for you to re-arrange the order of lines in a document.
Using a text editor or word processor, you have to mark the line from the
beginning to the end, copy it, then paste/move the line to the new location.
With LA, you simply move the highlight "bar" over the line you want to
relocate, press "C" (cut), move the "bar" to where you want to place it, and
press "P" (paste). It's that simple! Note: You can only move one line at a
time.

When you "cut" the line, it is removed from the text, but it will be
displayed in the bar at the bottom of the screen for your reference. Note:
Only the first 60 characters of the line will be displayed, if the line is
longer.

The first 80 characters of each line will be displayed on the screen if
the document has long lines (more than 80 characters). A reverse ">" will
be displayed at the 80th column to indicate that the line is long. NOTE:
Long lines (up to 990 characters) are no problem for LA to re-arrange.

Note: The original file (unchanged) will have a ".BAK" extension.

   EXPORT OPTION:

You can export "cut" lines into another file. Note: The filename will have
the same basename as the original, but with ".EXP" as the extension. When you
exit LA, if you press the "Y" key to save changes, LA will create two files
instead of one. One file will no longer contain the lines you exported. The
other file (.EXP) will contain only lines that were "cut" when Export mode
was active.

To activate Export mode, simply press the "E" key (toggles on/off) and the
"Exp" color will change to a green background when active. Note: You can't
activate Export mode if there is a "paste" pending (line "cut" but not pasted
yet).

   LIMITS:

LA can not relocate ("cut") extremely long lines with more than 990
characters. LA's "Cut" will not function properly on documents without
carriage returns and line feeds ending each line. All text files have them.

The maximum size of a document LA can handle is 65,000 bytes. LA will
let you know if it is too large.

   USE EXAMPLE:

My motive for making the first LA is to arrange the order of filenames in
directories using "LFNSORT" (Long FileName Sort) by Duncan Murdoch. Duncan
designed his directory sort utility so you can use an editor to re-arrange
the filenames (option). Note: You don't need an editor if you just want to
sort the directory in a logical order (alphabetical, chronological, etc.).
Also, his utility is a great way to get rid of "gaps" in the directory when
you delete or move a file/s. I prefer organizing my directories so that all
parts (files) of an application are together. Note: I often place
"--------.001" (etc.), using the "Zero" (0 length space saver) utility
program, to separate one group from another.

  GETTING STARTED:

Type (without quotes) "LA filename" and press enter ("filename" represents
the name of a text file).

Use the cursor up or down keys (Up, Dn, PgUp, PgDn) as well as "Home"
or "End" keys to get to the line you want to move. Note: The other commands
are "Cut", "Paste", "Export" (toggles mode on/off) and eXit (save and exit).
If you press "X" (exit) accidently, simply press Esc to abort.

  IMPORTANT NOTE:

If you "cut" a line, but did not "paste" it when you try to exit ("eXit")
LA, a beep sound should alert you that you can't exit until you "paste" that
line. This is a safety feature so you don't loose a line.

  CONCLUSION:

This is not a "Free" program. A small Donation will be Greatly Appreciated.
For a minimum donation of $5.00 (U.S.A.), as an added BONUS, pick one or more
programs that you would like to receive from the "OTH-PGMS.TXT" (List of MS
Dos based programs). I will send it/them to you on a 3.5" disk, or attach
it/them to e-mail if you prefer. Please include your e-mail address with your
donation and the name/s of the other program/s you want (if you want any), to
receive via e-mail. You will be entitled to receive all improved and new
programs (you select) developed in the future (will be sent to you by e-mail).

Remember to include a note listing which program/s you would like to receive
(if you want any), and if you want to be notified of future developments. The
donation will motivate me to develop more programs and make improvements (add
new features).

Comments or complaints are always welcomed. If you use "snail mail" and
expect a reply, please include a S.A.S.E.
