    1. Installation
    ---------------
To install Quattro Pro on your hard disk:

        o Place Disk 1 in drive A.
o Type A:INSTALL and press ENTER.
o Follow the directions that display onscreen.
o Type Q to load the program.

If you have difficulty reading the screens during the Install
program, use the optional command line parameter /B to force
Install to use a black and white display. Type

                              A:INSTALL /B<ENTER>

It may be necessary to specify the /B parameter if you are using
an LCD screen or a system that has a color graphics adapter with
      a monochrome or composite monitor.

    2. Using Extended Memory for VROOMM Object Caching
    --------------------------------------------------
Quattro Pro can use up to 512K of extended memory to store additional
executable modules. This feature is called the VROOMM Object
Cache. To use it, include the /X parameter when you execute Quattro Pro:

                                    Q /X

Generally, when more memory is available, Quattro Pro runs faster.
This feature in particular is ideal for use with computers that have a
total of 1MB memory available with no EMS (Expanded Memory
Specifications) driver installed. When working on large spreadsheets,
Quattro Pro can use the extended memory to significantly enhance
performance. However, when more than 1MB of total memory is available,
an EMS driver should be used because Quattro Pro can use the
additional memory for storing more spreadsheet data and/or executable
      modules.

WARNING: Some disk cache drivers, RAM disk drivers, and TSR (Terminate
and Stay Resident) programs may use extended memory in such a way
that Quattro Pro cannot recognize their presence. Therefore , we
STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you do not use any disk cache drivers, RAM
disk drivers, or TSR programs when using the /X parameter because
these programs may clash with Quattro Pro's use of the extended
      memory.

    3. Bitstream Fonts in Quattro Pro
    ---------------------------------
Quattro Pro uses Bitstream's Fontware Typefaces and enabling
software, producing high-quality bitmap fonts. When you look
closely at printed output from Quattro Pro, you may occasionally
notice extra white space between characters. This is not a problem
with your fonts. This extra white space is commonly reduced using
a composition function called kerning. At the present time, Quattro
      Pro does not implement kerning.

    4. Font Generation Post-Installation
    ------------------------------------
The fonts that are generated during installation can optionally be
created post-installation. To create the fonts, run Quattro Pro,
retrieve the file INSTALL.WQ1, and follow the instructions. If a
font has already been rendered, INSTALL.WQ1 knows not to generate
      it again.

    5. Notes on Sample Clip Art
    ---------------------------
Included with Quattro Pro is a PicturePak (TM) Clip Art Sampler of many
different images, from PicturePak by Marketing Graphics Inc. (MGI). The
installation program will automatically uncompress the clip art images
to your Quattro Pro directory. To include any of these images in
Quattro Pro graphs, choose / Graph|Annotate to reach the Annotator.
Choose / Clipboard|Paste From and pick the .CLP file you wish to paste
into your graph. There are many other images available from MGI.

Please see the enclosed brochure for further information regarding
clip art images for Quattro Pro.

    6. 132-column Display Mode
    --------------------------
If you have a graphics card that supports extended text modes,
Quattro Pro can display up to 132 columns at once. If you selected
an extended text mode that doesn't work, try the following suggestions:

o After saving your current work, experiment with different choices in
the / Options|Display Mode menu. If the display is scrambled, press
Ctrl-Break, choose /ODA, then try again.

o Review the graphics card and/or the display monitor manual to
verify that your hardware supports the extended display mode.

o If the display card supports a 16-bit bus and BIOS, but your
computer doesn't, it still might work if it's installed into an
8-bit slot. Refer to your graphics card and/or computer manual
          for more information.

o The display screen may be corrupted after invoking a TSR
(Terminate and Stay Resident) program and returning to Quattro Pro
while in an extended text mode. To prevent this, change the
display mode of the TSR to use the same extended text mode as
          Quattro Pro uses.

    7. Using Mouse Drivers with EGA and VGA Graphics Cards
    ------------------------------------------------------
Early versions of mouse drivers don't support display modes larger
than 80 columns by 24 lines. As a result, your mouse driver
might not work correctly when you use Quattro Pro's enhanced display
modes EGA 80x43, VGA 80x50, or EGA/VGA graphics modes. The following
chart will help you determine whether your mouse driver will work
correctly with the enhanced display modes.

Mouse Version that supports EGA 80x43 and VGA 80x50
      ------------- ---------------------------------------------
      Microsoft 6.11 or higher
      Mouse Systems 6.01 or higher
      Logitech 4.0 or higher
      PC Mouse 6.01 or higher

Note: Problems reported with using Quattro Pro and Microsoft mouse
driver version 7.04 disappear after CONFIG.SYS is changed to
      "device=mouse.sys /Y".

    8. Printing on Legal-size Paper with HP-LaserJet Printers
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are using an HP-LaserJet IID, IIP, or III with a legal-size paper
tray, you must manually change some settings on the front panel of the
printer. On the IID, IIP, and III, select PAPER=LEGAL. In addition,
the IIP needs to have MP=LEGAL.

The above statement does not apply to the HP-LaserJet II. Consult your
HP-LaserJet User's Guide for instruction on changing the front panel
      settings.

    9. HP-LaserJet Cartridge Support
    ---------------------------------
For all HP-LaserJet printers printing in portrait orientation, the
following fonts are available: cartridge, internal, Bitstream, and
Hershey. When printing in landscape orientation, the following fonts
are available: Bitstream and Hershey. When printing in landscape, if
an internal or cartridge font has been selected, a Bitstream or
      Hershey font is substituted.

The original HP-LaserJet printer supports the Hewlett Packard Printer
Control Language 3 (HPPCL-3). Quattro Pro uses HPPCL-4 for all
Hewlett Packard printer support. Because HPPCL-4 doesn't include
HPPCL-3 font cartridge support, Quattro Pro support for the original
LaserJet printer doesn't include font cartridge support.

    10. DIF File Format
    -------------------
Quattro Pro supports the DIF file format for data interchange
developed by Software Arts Products Corporation and used by VisiCalc.
Although other programs may import/export DIF files, they aren't
necessarily the same file format. Consequently, they may not be
      compatible with Quattro Pro.

    11. Remember Menu Option
    ------------------------
The Remember Menu Option determines whether Quattro Pro highlights the
last command you used when you return to a menu. To use the Remember
Menu Option, execute the menu equivalent {/ Startup;Remember} and
answer "Yes" to turn remember on, or "No" to turn remember off. If you
want to make your new setting permanent, choose /Options|Update.

    12. Graph Buttons, Mouse, and Keyboard
    -------------------------------------
Graph buttons can be activated using the mouse or the keyboard. Using
the mouse, point to the graph button and click. To select a graph
button with the keyboard, press the first letter of the text within
      the graph button.

    13. Macro Key Reader
    --------------------
To help you run 1-2-3 macros while using the Quattro Pro menu tree,
there's a command on the /Tools|Macro menu, Key Reader. With Key
Reader set to Yes, Quattro Pro will read 1-2-3 command sequences
      appropriately.

The macro key reader steps in only when Quattro Pro reaches a macro
statement that begins with the slash key (/) or the command {MENU}.

You won't see menus display as the macro issues commands. However,
various Quattro Pro dialog boxes will appear wherever appropriate. For
example, /GT displays the Quattro Pro /Graph|Graph Type menu choices.

Be alert when executing 1-2-3 macros containing {?} statements--you
may want to translate those statements to {MENUCALL} statements, and
create custom menus for the corresponding 1-2-3 commands. This ensures
that the macro will still run within 1-2-3.

If the macro key reader encounters a macro command that it can't read
correctly, an error message appears and the macro terminates.

Macros using menu-equivalent commands are still compatible. For
example, the statement {/ Graph;Type} still executes as /Graph|Graph
      Type.

Key Reader is initially set to No. You can save the current setting by
      choosing /Options|Update.

The menu equivalent macro command for Key Reader is {/ Macro;Reader}.

    14. WordPerfect Spreadsheet Links
    ---------------------------------
If you use WordPerfect version 5.1 to word process reports and other
documents, you can directly integrate Quattro Pro spreadsheet data into
      your WordPerfect documents.

An interim release of WordPerfect 5.1 offers two ways to link to your
spreadsheet data. You can import data from a Quattro Pro spreadsheet
file, which can be formatted either as a table or as text. Or, create a
direct link to the specific data you need. Links from Quattro Pro
spreadsheets to WordPerfect documents can be automatically established
whenever the WordPerfect document is loaded, or only when desired.

WordPerfect users who want to upgrade to this interim release of version
5.1 should contact WordPerfect Corporation for further information.
