Test Objective: These tests are done to validate the installation programme for the Shuttle PCCARD Atapi and Shuttle standard parallel port ASPI Managers, Device Drivers and ASPI Utilities under MSDOS for functionality and user interface implementations. The tests are classified as: User interface specific tests Functionality tests PREREQUISITE: Before you commence testing this product you will need to carefully study the configuration procedure for the file SETUP.INI as given below. In many instances these entries will need to be modified as per the test requirement. A. Configuring SETUP.INI The specifications for the installation of a particular Shuttle Device, are entered in an initialization file, SETUP.INI. The [Install], [Client Driver], [ASPI Manager], [Hard Disk] and [CD-ROM] sections in SETUP.INI allow for customized configuration. The entries in the SETUP.INI determine whether the installation is to be done for Shuttle standard parallel port or Shuttle PCCARD device. Notes: a. The SETUP.INI entries are case insensitive b. In a setting that enables or disables some activity, all entries other than any entry that STARTS with a Y disable it. c. In all the settings in SETUP.INI that have an equal to sign, the presence of a blank before and/or after the = sign does not matter. d. The word PCMCIA and PCCARD have been used interchangeably, except in the SETUP.INI entries. Note that they mean the same. e. File name extensions are MANDATORY for all ASPI Manager and Device Driver entries e.g. ASPIHDRM.SYS. f. SETUP.INI contains two type of entries: A KEY entry e.g. DEFAULT_PROGRAM_PATH A KEY VALUE entry e.g. C:\EPATHD KEY entries SHOULD NOT BE DELETED. KEY VALUE entries may be changed during customization. For example, the SETUP.INI contains the following entries, to carry out the installation for Shuttle EPATHD. [Install] PRODUCT_NAME=Shuttle EPEZ-T1 Adapter COMPANY_NAME=Shuttle Technology VERSION=Versoin 1.0 INSTALL_HARD_DISK= INSTALL_CD-ROM= INSTALL_PCCARD= PROMPT_USER= DEFAULT_PROGRAM_PATH=C:\EPATHD [CLIENT DRIVER] CLIENT_DRIVER=ODCLIENT.SYS IRQ_OPTIONS=IRQ2,IRQ3,IRQ6 PORT_BASE_OPTIONS=160,170 [ASPI MANAGER] ASPI_MANAGER=EPATHD.SYS [HARD DISK] HD_DRIVER=ASPIHDRM.SYS [CD-ROM] CD_DRIVER= CD_DEVICE_NAME= A.1. [Install] Section A.1.1. PRODUCT_NAME=Shuttle EPEZ-T1 Adapter This entry is mandatory. The Product Name displayed on the main screen and on all the dialogs can be changed by changing this entry. If this field is left blank, the installation should abort after displaying an error message. A.1.2. COMPANY_NAME=Shuttle Technology This entry is mandatory. The Company Name displayed on the main screen can be changed with this entry. If this field is left blank, the installation should abort after displaying an error message. A.1.3. VERSION=1.0 This entry is optional. The version string displayed on the main screen can be changed with this entry. If this field is left blank, the installation will proceed without displaying a version no. on the first screen. A.1.4. INSTALL_HARD_DISK= This entry is specific for Hard Disk installation. If this entry is left blank it is considered as N. Only when this entry is enabled, the [HARD DISK] section of the installer will be processed. A.1.5. INSTALL_CD-ROM= This entry is specific for CDROM installation. If this entry is left blank it is considered as N. Only when this entry is enabled, the [CD-ROM] section of the installer will be processed. A.1.6. PROMPT_USER= This entry is valid only when INSTALL_HARD_DISK=Y and INSTALL_CD-ROM=Y. When PROMPT_USER=Y, the dialog 'Devices Options' with the options, Hard Disk/Removable Media and CD-ROM is displayed. The user may select to install either one or both or a Tape Drive. When PROMPT_USER=N, the installer does the installation for a PD device. The 'Device Options' dialog is not displayed to the user. A.1.7. INSTALL_PCCARD=Y This entry decides whether to install PCCARD Shuttle Devices or NON PCCARD Shuttle Devices. When INSTALL_PCCARD=Y then the Installer will install PCCARD Shuttle Devices. Else it will install NON PCCARD Shuttle Devices. Only when this entry is enabled the [CLIENT DRIVER] section will be processed. Shuttle PCCARD product installation will proceed successfully ONLY if PCMCIA card and socket services are found installed on the system. A.1.8. DEFAULT_PROGRAM_PATH=C:\EPEZ This entry specifies the default installation path that Install displays during the installation. If this field is left blank, the default path C:\DRIVERS will be used for the installation. Directory names should follow DOS file naming conventions. A.2. [CLIENT DRIVER] Section This section is processed only if INSTALL_PCCARD is ENABLED. A.2.1. CLIENT_DRIVER=ODCLIENT .SYS In the above case, ODCLIENT.SYS is the name of the Client Driver . For a PCCARD installation, if the Client Driver is not entered, then, Install aborts after the display of an error message. A.2.2. IRQ_OPTIONS=IRQ2,IRQ4,IRQ6 This entry is optional. If a list of IRQ values are declared along with a list of PORT_BASE_OPTIONS, Install presents the options to Automatically OR Manually configure the IRQ with which the Client Driver should load. If this entry is left blank, Install assumes Automatic IRQ configuration for the Client Driver. A.2.3. PORT_BASE_OPTIONS=160,170 This entry is optional. If a list of PORT BASE values are declared along with a list of IRQ_OPTIONS, Install presents the options to Automatically OR Manually configure the IRQ with which the Client Driver should load. If this entry is left blank, Install assumes Automatic IRQ configuration for the Client Driver. Manual IRQ and PORT Base Configuration: The declared list of IRQs and Port Bases are displayed in a scrollable menu and the selected values are used in the Client Driver loading statement in CONFIG.SYS. For e.g. DEVICE=C:\EPATHD\ODCLIENT.SYS /ATAPI: 170 /IRQ:6 A.3. [ASPI MANAGER] section Any Shuttle ASPI Manager to be installed is declared in this section. The default switches with which they have to be loaded are also declared here. This entry is used for updating CONFIG.SYS. A.3.1. ASPI_MANAGER= This entry is mandatory. If this entry is left blank, Install will abort with a relevant error message. If the ASPI Manager declared here does not exist on the installation diskette, Install will abort with a relevant error message. Any Shuttle Hard Disk/Removable Media ASPI Manager may be declared here. e.g. EPST.SYS or EPATHD.SYS or EPATPD.SYS or EPATLS or EPATRM or EPATTD. For e.g. DEVICE=C:\EPATHD\EPATHD.SYS /r0 /w0 or DEVICE=C:\EPATCD\EPATCD.SYS /r0 /w0 A.4. [HARD DISK] Section: This section will be processed only if INSTALL_HARD_DISK=Y. The Shuttle Hard Disk/removable Media ASPI Device driver to be installed is declared in this section. The default switches with it should be loaded are also declared here. This entry is used for updating CONFIG.SYS. For e.g. HD_DRIVER=ASPIHDRM.SYS /R2 Config.sys contains: DEVICE=C:\EPATHD\ASPIHDRM.SYS /r2 A.4.1. HD_DRIVER= If INSTALL_HARD_DISK=Y , this entry becomes mandatory. Any Shuttle Hard Disk/ Removable Media ASPI Device Driver may be declared here. If this entry is left blank, Install will proceed with the installation. If the ASPI Device Driver declared here does not exist on the installation diskette, Install will abort with a relevant error message. A.5. [CD-ROM] section This section is processed only if INSTALL_CD-ROM=Y. The CD-ROM ASPI Device driver to be installed is declared in this section. The default switches with which it should be loaded are also declared here. This entry is used for updating CONFIG.SYS. For e.g. CD_DRIVER=ASPICD.SYS /d:ASPI_CD Config.sys contains: DEVICE=C:\EPATCD\ASPICD.SYS /d:ASPI_CD A.5.1 CD_DRIVER= If INSTALL_CD-ROM=Y then this entry becomes mandatory. Any Shuttle CDROM ASPI Device Driver may be declared here. If this entry is left blank, Install will proceed with the installation. If the ASPI Device Driver declared here does not exist on the installation diskette, Install will abort with a relevant error message. A.5.2. CD_DEVICE_NAME=ASPI_CD This entry specifies the logical name for the CD drive required by the Aspi CD Device Driver. This entry should be declared for a CD installation. The default value is ASPI_CD for ASPICD.SYS. This entry will later be used by the MSCDEX command to assign a drive letter to the CDROM driver. If the default name ASPI_CD is declared, the Config.sys entry for ASPICD.SYS will not contain the /d switch. For e.g. DEVICE=C:\\ASPICD.SYS For any CD_DEVICE_NAME other than ASPI_CD, Install adds the CD_DEVICE_NAME as a switch to the DEVICE= statement of the CD Driver in CONFIG.SYS. For e.g. CD_DEVICE_NAME=TESTCD Config.sys will contain: DEVICE=C:\\ASPICD.SYS /d:TESTCD A.6. Installing Utilities This installer does not have any specific section for the installation of Utilities. Utilities to be installed should be copied on to the installation source diskette or drive. The installer will copy all the files found in the installation source to the destination path. A.7. Installing MSCDEX.EXE It is assumed that MSCDEX.EXE is available in the path defined in the PATH variable. The Autoexec.bat entry for MSCDEX will be done as follows: For e.g. MSCDEX /d:ASPI_CD A.8. Installing PD Devices Since PD devices can function both as Removable Media drive and CDROM drive, it is necessary to install both the ASPI Device drivers i.e. ASPIHDRM.SYS and ASPICD.SYS along with the ASPI Manager e.g. EPST.SYS. The PROMPT_USER=N facilitates this installation. For e.g. INSTALL_HARD_DISK=Y INSTALL_CD-ROM=Y PROMPT_USER=N [ASPI MANAGER] ASPI_MANAGER=EPST.SYS [HARD DISK] HD_DRIVER=ASPIHDRM.SYS [CD ROM] CD_DRIVER=ASPICD.SYS CD_DEVICE_NAME=ASPI_CD Config.sys contains: DEVICE=\EPST.SYS DEVICE= \ASPIHDRM.SYS DEVICE= \ASPICD.SYS Autoexec.bat contains: MSCDEX /d:ASPI_CD A.9. Installing Tape devices Tape devices require only the ASPI Manager to be installed. This is achieved as follows: INSTALL_HARD_DISK=N INSTALL_CD-ROM=N [ASPI MANAGER] ASPI_MANAGER=EPST.SYS Config.sys will contain: DEVICE=\EPST.SYS Install will ignore all other key values in [HARD DISK], [CD ROM], [CLIENT DRIVER] sections. A.10. Installation Log Files: This installer generated two log files in the installed path. These files are crucial to the uninstallation process and are assigned hidden and read-only attributes to prevent accidental deletion or modification. The log files are: INSTALL.LOG: This file maintains the record of the Product Name, Company Name, Version, Destination directory and all the files that have been copied. This file is overwritten each time a reinstallation is attempted in the same directory. SYSUPDT.LOG: This file maintains the record of all the entries made by the installer in the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files. This file is overwritten each time a reinstallation is attempted in the same directory. CAUTION: THE LOG FILES SHOULD NOT BE DELETED, UNINSTALL WILL NOT PROCEED. A.11. Installation A.11.1. First time installation: Installation proceeds as follows: a. Creates the destination directory b. Copies all the files on the installation source diskette c. Generating INSTALL.LOG and SYSUPDT.LOG d. Creates backup copies of Config.sys and Autoexec.bat with .STL extension and then updates Config.sys and Autoexec.bat with the required entries. A.11.2. Re-installation of a product in the SAME target directory where a previous installation of the SAME product exists. Installation proceeds as follows: a. The previous installation is detected and the user is prompted to change the destination directory. b. On pressing the user is allowed to specify a different destination directory. b.1. Copies all the files on the installation source diskette to the specified destination b.2. Generates INSTALL.LOG and SYSUPDT.LOG b.3. Creates backup copies of Config.sys and Autoexec.bat with .STL extension b.4. Updates Config.sys and Autoexec.bat with the required entries after first deleting all duplicate entries of the same product. A.11.3. Installing a product in a target directory where an installation of ANOTHER product already exists. Updates Config.sys and Autoexec.bat with the required entries. A.12. Uninstallation The file UNINSTAL.EXE should be executed from the installed path for uninstallation. Uninstallation results in the deletion of all the files that were copied during the installation and subsequently removal of the installed directory, provided it is empty. Uninstallation also removes all entries made in the files CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT during installation. A.13. Support for Win3.x Installation / Uninstallation may be executed in Windows 3.x using the Program Manager RUN option or from the MSDOS box. Limitations: 1. Unable to detect input of invalid entry for directory names. 2. For Uninstall, as we do not have any structures like registry or a list, there is no possibility to track any shared copy of drivers or ASPI managers used by multiple installations. So INSTALL does not support installation in the same directory. INSTALL gives the user an option to change the directory name for the new installation. 3. For PCCARD installations, both IRQ and PORT BASE options have to be given if manual selection is to be allowed. Not specifying either IRQ_OPTIONS or PORT_BASE_OPTIONS will result in an automatic installation. 4. There is no version check involved in any stage of INSTALL. 5. There is no copyright check included. Resource Requirements: HARDWARE Test System: 1. 486-DX4-100 Mhz or above CPU based system with 8MB or above RAM, VGA Color monitor and mouse.
