The initial idea came from PC MAGAZINES DR.COM utility in the August 87 issue. I have greatly enhanced their utility and added many new features. The following is a list of the current features in Qdisk. 1) Copy a file (Multi operator) 2) Delete a file (Multi operator) 3) Rename a file 4) Move a file (Multi operator) 5) Show a new Path or disk 6) View a file or directory 7) Search for text in a file being viewed 8) Repeat search for previous text 9) Create a Directory 10) Remove a Directory 11) Mark a file for multiple operators 12) UnMark a file for multiple operators 13) Mark All files for multiple operators 14) Toggle Wordstar file mode for view option 15) Toggle Confirm option on delete and print functions 16) Toggle Word Wrap mode for view option 17) Toggle text Formatting in view option 18) Change a file's attributes (Multi operator) 19) Print a file (Multi operator) 20) Sort directory display by Name, Ext, Size or Date 21) Change the printer device (lpt1-lpt3 are valid) 22) Directory notes 23) Speed search for a file name 24) Exit QDISK and stay in the directory being displayed When a file is marked for multiple operations an asterisk (*) will appear just past the file name on the display. Any time any files are marked, all multi operator commands will act on all marked files. The total number of marked files, and the size of the marked files is displayed under the date and time. NOTE: If you have any files marked, and you hit to exit the program, you will still have those files marked when you start the module again. To see the alternate key menu, hold down the key on the keyboard. Then press the option you want. will exit you back to what ever you were running when you are on the main screen. To change the pop-up key from alt-tab, place the new character on the command line after the program name. The following are the valid characters not including the quotes: "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ,./\" and 3 QDISK.DOC - 10/07/87 1) Copy a file (Multi operator) To copy a file, or a list of market files, press the key on the main menu. You will then be asked to enter the destination for the file(s). This may be any valid DOS disk or directory. If there is not enough room on the destination disk, you are asked if you wish to change the destination diskette or skip the copy of that file. Once you have answered this question the system will continue with the copying. 2) Delete a file (Multi operator) To delete a file, or list of marked files, press the key or on the main menu. If confirm, on the Alt menu, is ON, you will be prompted for a 'Y' or an 'N' as to whether or not you really want to delete the file(s). If you say 'Y', the file is deleted and you may then continue. If you say 'N', the prompt is cleared and you may continue. If confirm is OFF, the file(s) is/are deleted when you hit the key and no prompt is shown. 3) Rename a file To rename a file, press or on the main menu. You are then prompted for the new name of the file. Any valid DOS filename is fine. 4) Move a file (Multi operator) To move a file, or list of marked file, to a new directory on a disk, or to a new disk drive, press or on the main menu. You will then be prompted for the new directory name. Any valid EXISTING directory may be used. If the directory or disk does not exist, the system will beep, otherwise the file will be moved. 5) Show a new Path or disk To look at a new path or disk, press or on the main menu. You will then be asked for the new directory to display. Any valid DOS drive or directory is valid. If the directory is empty of all files you will exit back to your original program and be out of QDISK. You may also move around directories on a hard disk by showing the ".", ".." and files using the view option described next. 4 QDISK.DOC - 10/07/87 6) View a file or directory To look at a file, press or or with the highlighted bar on that file. You may change some of the view option on the Alt menu. If you view a directory, you will be shown that directory. In the view mode, you may page-up, page-down, scroll line by line and shift the screen sideways 8 characters at a time. The key will take you to the top of the file and move the side shift back to column 1. The key will take you to the end of the file in the current column. This is where the search and repeat search keys of the main menu are active. To exit the view section, press either or the return key for a normal exit. You may also press the delete, rename or move keys to do the selected function on the viewed file. 7) Search for text in a file being viewed To search for text in a file being viewed, press while in the file. Next you will be asked to select a form of data entry, either Hex or Text. Once you have chosen this you will be prompted for either a character string up to 20 characters or up to 20 hex values to search for. A blank search key, in text mode, or an key in either mode will abort the search. 8) Repeat search for previous text To repeat a search for text previously specified with , just press . 9) Create a Directory To create a new directory, press and enter the directory name. You may place the directory anywhere that is valid. If it is in the current directory, the display will be updated to show this. 10) Remove a Directory To remove a directory, press and enter the directory name. You may remove any directory that is valid and empty. If it is in the current directory, the display will be updated to show this. 11) Mark a file for multiple operators To mark a file for multi-operator commands, place the highlighted bar on the file to be marked and press the gray '+' key. An asterisk will appear next to the filename to show that it is marked. 5 QDISK.DOC - 10/07/87 12) UnMark a file for multiple operators To un-mark a file for multi-operator commands, place the highlighted bar on the file to be marked and press the gray '-' key. The asterisk will be removed next to the filename to show that it is no longer marked. 13) Mark All files for multiple operators To mark all files for multi-operator commands, press the gray '*' key. An asterisk will appear next to each filename to show that it is marked. 14) Toggle Wordstar file mode for view option To toggle the wordstar file mode in view, hold down the key and press . The status will show on the menu. This mode allows you to look at wordstar document file and read them clearly. 15) Toggle Confirm option on delete and print functions To toggle the confirm option, hold down the key and press . The status will show on the menu. 16) Toggle Word Wrap mode for view option To toggle the word wrap status, hold down the key and press . The status will show on the menu. This options affects the way the text is shown in the view mode. If ON then a line longer than 80 characters will wrap to the next line of the screen. If OFF then a line longer than 80 characters will truncate at the end of the screen. You may see the extra data by scrolling the screen sideways with the arrow keys. 17) Toggle text Formatting in view option To toggle the formatting option, hold down the key and press . The status will show on the menu. This option allows you to see a file as it truly is. All tabs and control characters are ignored and the text is shown 80 characters per line, 25 lines per screen. (Good for looking at a COM or EXE file) 6 QDISK.DOC - 10/07/87 18) Change a file's attributes (Multi operator) To change the attributes on a file, hold down the key and press . You will then be prompted for the attributes to change. You may change only the 4 attributes shown on the right of the directory listing. These are H- hidden, S - system, R - read only and A - archive. By entering the letter you wish, the current state of that attribute will be switched. You may enter any or all at the same time. 19) Print a file (Multi operator) To print a file, or list of marked files, hold down the key and press . If confirm is ON, you will be asked if you wish to print the file(s). Say 'Y' to continue, 'N' or to abort. In either case of confirm status, you are then asked for the number of lines to print on a page. A will surpress page breaks. If a printer error occurs, the system will beep and alert you. You may abort the print by pressing at any time while the printer is running. 20) Sort directory display by Name, Ext, Size or Date You may change the sort order of the directory, in the display only, by choosing a sort option from the Alt menu. The display will change to show the new order. You may also press and the capitalized letter in the sort option on the Alt menu you want. 21) Change the printer device (lpt1-lpt3 are valid) To change the printer device, hold down the key and press the

. The printer port will change to the next available port number. 22) Directory notes To attach a 31 character description to a file, hold down the key and press the . The directory information will be overlayed by the file descriptions. You may edit these description using the cursor keys, backspace, and return key. Press to return to the main directory. The data is stored in a file in the directory you are looking at. 7 QDISK.DOC - 10/07/87 23) Speed search for a file name To find a file in a directory quickly, just type the first letter of the file name. The high-light bar will move to the first file with that letter as is first character. Each subsequent time you press the same letter, you will move to the next file with that letter. At the end, or if no file can be found, the speaker will beep. 24) Exit QDISK and stay in the directory being displayed To exit QDISK and stay in the directoty you are viewing currently, hold down the key and press the . You will be placed in the drive and directory you were just in. The on screen clock will appear to stop working during heavy disk or printer usage.
