RESETBAT.TXT 27 Dec 1998

Use the exe file at your own risk!

A kind gentleman sent me a file
RESETBAT.EXE 6687 bytes

Resets IBM Thinkpad 701 battery gauge if it is stuck
on "full" but the battery is really "empty".

You boot your IBM Thinkpad 701 into MS-DOS mode, run the program.
At this point the battery gauge in Fn-F1 will show the correct
battery level (in my case, 2%). However, the charging light
(far left) will not come on until you turn the machine off,
then on again.

In an hour, I had my NiMH up to 100%. And it really is
charged, now.

I did a dump of resetbat.exe, there was no copyright or
authorship information. I think it is a useful utility for
any 701 owner to have on disk. This is not the first time that
the 701 charger has gotten confused, although it is the first
time that nothing else would straighten it out.

It would be nice if this becomes available on a www site.

It worked for me, but I offer no guarantees!

:I have an IBM Thinkpad 701 Butterfly, now out of warranty.
:
:The computer always thinks that the battery is charged, no
:matter how much it has run down! This is an NiMH battery. If I
:leave the computer unplugged, after a while (used to be
:minutes, now is 2-3 seconds) the screen goes blank and the
:machine begins to click and the power light goes on and off.
:Not a good variation. I'm thinking it might be better for me
:at this point to not carry the battery at all.
:
:My question: what can I do?
:Is there a (DOS?) utility which will tell the computer that the
:darned battery is uncharged, turn on the charge light, let's
:get on with it?
:

Yes!
