RUNCART v1.0 Copyright (C) 1990 PC Enterprises 908 280-0025 RUNCART.COM can be copied onto your hard disk drive and distributed as only if it is copied with RUNCART.DOC and neither file is modified in any way. This program will allow PCjr users who have added a PC Enterprises self booting hard drive or Turbo-Drive to use IPL cartridges without removing any hardware. IPL (Initial Program Loadable) cartridges are cartridges which can not be run by entering a command from the DOS prompt. The only way to run an IPL cartridge is to start the computer with the cartridge installed and the door to drive A: open. Three Spinnaker cartridges: Kindercomp, Fraction Fever, and Facemaker are examples of IPL cartridges. If you have a self booting hard drive or Turbo-Drive you will need to use the RUNCART program in order to use these cartridges. This is because the PCjr is programmed to boot from hard drive or Turbo-Drive before running any IPL cartridges. So if one of these self-booting devices is installed, you normally would have to remove it to run your IPL cartridges. To use the RUNCART program simply start your computer in the usual manner with the IPL cartridge inserted into either cartridge slot. Note that only one IPL cartridge should be inserted at a time. Next, insert the diskette which contains the RUNCART program, enter the command RUNCART, and then press Enter. Once a cartridge is activated from DOS by using the RUNCART program you may need to reboot the computer in order to get back to the DOS prompt. Many IPL cartridges do not have a provision for exiting the cartridge since the cartridge is not expected to be run from DOS.
