Many of the hardware differences between the two computers are emulated with this program to allow many more programs written for the PC to run correctly on the PCjr. Borland's Turbo C 1.0 and Microsoft's QuickBASIC versions 3.0 and 4.0 are examples. Future programs written with Turbo C 1.0, such as games or applications, should run properly with this driver installed. Also, many memory resident programs which use keyboard interrupt 09h written specifically for the PC will no longer lock-up your computer. This driver also sets memory to the actual memory installed. If there is memory above 128KB, then user memory begins in that area to allow the PCjr to run at a fast pace. Cartridge BASIC will now run properly with memory expansion above 128KB. This also allows the SHELL command to work properly as long as there is 16K used for video memory. This means that if you use CLEAR,,,v where v is not equal to 16384 then this command must be used with v equal to 16384 before SHELL can be used. BASIC's default is 16K. Cartridge BASIC will work best if PCJRXTRA.SYS is the only file in your CONFIG.SYS file. Installation: To use this Device Driver, simply copy the file PCJRXTRA.SYS to your boot disk. Then add this filename to your CONFIG.SYS file in the form DEVICE = PCJRXTRA.SYS on the same disk. If you are unfamiliar with a CONFIG.SYS file, consult your DOS manual on how to create one. If you have other device drivers that you wish to use such as a RAMDISK, merely include these drivers in the CONFIG.SYS file along with PCJRXTRA.SYS. It is best if PCJRXTRA.SYS is the last driver in the file. Once you have these files on your boot disk, you can install the driver by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL simultaneously for a warm start or when you turn the computer on. Be sure that the PCJRXTRA.SYS file is on the disk with your CONFIG.SYS file or you will receive an error. Closing: If you find this program of value, a contribution of $10 would be greatly appreciated. Questions or Comments are also welcome. Please mail to the following address. Randy Van Dyke 134 N.
