README.DOC file MCS-350 & MCS-600/700 INSTALLATION ------------------- Product Description ------------------- The MCS-350/600/700 has been designed to provide easy "Plug and Play" installation. The MCS-350/600/700 supports all SCSI disk drives that conform to the ANSI standard "Common Command Set". The MCS-350/600/700 ROM BIOS is designed to identify and properly support the type of SCSI disk drive it is installed with. The MCS-350/600/700 will work with IBM PS/2 MicroChannel family and compatible computers. --------------------- Physical Installation --------------------- Follow the IBM instructions for removing the cover and inserting the MCS-350/600/700 in your MicroChannel computer. The MCS-350 external connection to a SCSI device is via the 25-pin D-SUB connector at the head of the board. Various cables and adapters are available from Future Domain to convert 50-pin header to 25-pin, 25-pin to 50-pin Amphenol, and cables for device interconnect. The MCS-700 external connection to a SCSI device is via the high density connector at the head of the board. The MCS-600 external connection to a SCSI device is via the 25-pin D-SUB connector with Apple SCSI Pin-Out at the head of the board. The HCA-120 cable must be used with this connector. Contact Future Domain for assistance as to interconnect cables to fit your application. -------------------- System Configuration -------------------- Boot up the system using the "Reference Diskette" that came with your MicroChannel computer. Make a copy of the diskette using the "Backup the Reference Diskette" option from the main menu. Next, copy the appropriate "ADF" file from the Future Domain MCS-350/600/700 "Options Diskette" to the backup copy of "Reference Diskette". This allows configuration of the MCS-350/600/700 SCSI adapter via the Reference Diskette's setup utilities. For the MCS-350 board, you will use the "ADF" file @5F77.ADF. For the MCS-600/700 (1800 based) board, you will use the "ADF" file @6127.ADF. For the MCS-600/700 (18c50 based) board, you will use the "ADF" file @60E9.ADF. Once completed, boot from the backup copy of Reference Diskette and select the "Set Configuration" option. Follow the instructions for setting up adapters in the MicroChannel System. The MCS-350/600/700 will show up on the menu. Note : The "Automatic Configuration" option may not always correctly resolve system resource conflicts. Therefore, we recommend users selecting the "Set Configuration" option instead.
