LZALT is a simple utility designed to alter files which have been compressed with LZEXE versions 0.90 or 0.91 so that they can no longer be uncompressed with UNLZEXE nor recognized as an LZEXE-compressed file by DIRX, CHK4COMP or similar listers. Using LZALT couldn't be easier. From the command line simply type: LZALT PATH/FILENAME where path is the directory in which FILENAME.EXE is located and FILENAME is the name of the compressed file you want LZALT to alter. PATH may be omitted if LZALT and FILENAME are in the same directory. Since all files compressed with LZEXE are EXE files, the EXE extension is assumed and may be omitted. No other extensions are permitted. MESSAGES: 1) FILE NOT FOUND - The file name you specified was not located. LZALT will terminate. Check the name and/or path and try again. 2) INVALID FILE NAME - The file name you specified was not a legitimate EXE file. 3) FILE HAS NOT BEEN COMPRESSED WITH LZEXE - The file you specified was not compressed with LZEXE versions 0.90 or 0.91. It may not be compressed with LZEXE or it may be compressed with a later version (which, as of this writing, has not been released) or it may have been previously altered with a utility similar to LZALT or with LZALT itself. 4) PROGRAM SUCCESSFULLY ALTERED - Your compressed program has been altered so that it cannot be uncompressed with UNLZEXE. Further, DIRX, CHK4COMP or similar utilities which list compressed files and specify the program which compressed them, will now identify your program as "uncompressed". It should be noted that run-time file compression provides a measure of security from virus infection and from individuals who would alter program code if they could make sense out of it. LZALT increases file security by preventing your files from being uncompressed, doctored, and then recompressed. LZALT does not create a backup file. This should always be done, as a precaution before any type of file alteration.
