29.Oct.1997 Documentation for ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ VTXT2EXE V1.0á ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This program is freeware. Copyright by Tobias Winkler. I would like to hear, if you like this program, or have any comments or ideas about it. (You can reach me per EMail, or Fido-Netmail.) My Fido-Net address is: Tobias Winkler@2:2411/901.38 (Bummi-Box,Frankfurt/Oder) By Internet-EMail I can be reached at this address: Tobias_Winkler@p38.f901.n2411.z2.sesom.de Or via snail mail: Tobias Winkler G.-Hauptmann-Str. 17 15234 Frankfurt (Oder) Germany (By the way, I know my English isn't that good. So don't blame me for it. Ok, I could use my native language, but wouldn't you agree that German is one of the worst languages (at least for computers...)?) What is VTXT2EXE ? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is a common textfile_to_executable-compiler, which makes textfiles self-executable (self-showing but not self-viewing ;-)). It is based on my viewer ViewS (V1.96), but the resulting executable will only support the basic functions of ViewS, to keep the compiled file as small as possible. Search, Help, PositionSave, AttributeTables, CharConversionTables and related functions are not included. The size of the binary part of the resulting executable file will be around 20 KByte (compressed by DIET 1.45f by Teddy Matsumoto). I know this is quite big for a self-executable-text, but additionally the actual text-part of the executable will be compressed too (with the SUPPACK- library by Christian Worm). So the result of bigger (>20K) textfiles may even be smaller than the original text. BUT up to now, the size of the input(-text)-file MUST be smaller than 64KByte. If someone thinks, this is too small (although I've seen very few bigger textfiles up to now), I will think about a change... For the case, when the textfile is only slightly bigger than 64K, you should try my utility PACKTXT (included in the ViewS-package in UTIL\). It will try to reduce the size of the textfile *without* loss, by replacing Space- sequences with single Tabs, and optionally terminating lines with 1byte CR or LF instead of the 2byte CR/LF. Commandline: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ VTXT2EXE [.EXE] If only the name of the textfile is given, the resulting executable will have the same name, but with the extension EXE. The resulting executable file will show the original textfile comfortably when running. It's options can be configured by VIEWSCFG like the original ViewS. eg.: VIEWSCFG TEXT.EXE (Of course only the supported options will be used.) Hmm, don't know what else to explain. Ask me if something is not clear. Bye, TW.
