After Windows restarts the OPL4 MIDI synthesis driver will be installed, and Windows will now take advantage of the OPL4 synthesizer. Configuring the OPL4 MIDI Synthesizer After installing the OPL4 Windows driver in your system you can configure various options of the synthesizer with the OPL4 Synth control panel applet. To run the OPL4 Synth applet: SYMBOL 183 \f "Symbol" \s 10 \h From the Windows Program Manager double click on the Control Panel Icon found in the group Main to activate the Windows Control Panel. SYMBOL 183 \f "Symbol" \s 10 \h Control Panel will display a number of applets for your system. Double click on the OPL4 Synth icon to run the OPL4 Synth applet. Synthesis Type The OPL4 can synthesize music in one of three main modes. These are FM , PCM (Wave table), or dual mode. To change the synthesis mode select one of the corresponding radio buttons. FM Mode Synthesizes music using up to 20 voices of FM synthesis. PCM Mode Synthesizes music using 24 voices of PCM (Wave table) synthesis. Dual Mode Uses both FM and PCM voices to provide up to 44 voices of FM/PCM synthesis FM Voice Mode When using FM Mode or Dual Mode the FM Voice Mode allows you to configure the voices and voice types that will be used to synthesize FM music. Eight different FM modes are supported, with each mode having a different number of voices consisting of 2 operator, 4 operator, and drum kit sounds. Although some 4 operator voices sound "fuller" than their 2 operator counterpart, using 4 operator sounds reduces polyphony. There are two FM drum generation methods for the voice modes, Standard Drums and Melodic Drums. Standard drums allows for 5 simultaneous drum sounds using only 3 two operator voices. This allows for a large drum polyphony but also leads to a "thinner" drum sound. Melodic drums uses 1 two operator voice for each drum sound allowing less polyphony but a more realist sounding FM drum kit. To change the FM Voice Mode select one of the following eight modes from the drop down list box. 9-2Op Melodic Drums 9 2-operator voices are available for melodic notes. Drum kit sounds are generated using 2-op melodic voices. 6-2Op Standard Drums 6 2-operator voices are available for melodic notes. Drum kits sounds are generated using 1-op percussive voices. 18-2Op Melodic Drums 18 2-operator voices are available for melodic notes. Drum kit sounds are generated using 2-op melodic voices. This mode allows the greatest FM polyphony along with the more realistic drum sounds. 15-2Op Standard Drums 15 2-operator voices are available for melodic notes. Drum kits sounds are generated using 1-op percussive voices. This mode offers the most FM notes on at one time (15 melodic notes + 5 percussive notes).. 3-4Op 9-2Op Melodic Drums 3 4-operator voices and 9 2-operator voices are available for melodic notes. Drum kit sounds are generated using 2-op melodic voices. 3-4Op 12-2Op Standard Drums 3 4-operator voices and 9 2-operator voices are available for melodic notes. Drum kits sounds are generated using 1-op percussive voices. 6-4Op 3-2Op Standard Drums 9 2-operator voices are available for melodic notes. Drum kits sounds are generated using 1-op percussive voices. 6-4Op 6-2Op Melodic Drums 6 4-operator voices and 9 2-operator voices are available for melodic notes. Drum kit sounds are generated using 2-op melodic voices. The default mode for FM synthesis is the 18-2Op Melodic Drums mode. PCM Config To adjust the PCM configuration press the PCM Config button in the main OPL4 Synth applet window. A new window will be displayed with options for PCM synthesis as follows: Drum Level The volume level of the drum sounds used in PCM synthesis can be adjusted to provide a louder or softer overall drum kit. The default level is 64. Setting the level to a value less than 64 provides a softer drum kit level. Setting the value above 64 provides a louder drum kit level. To adjust the drum level move the scroll bar up or down using the mouse. Allow Bank Switch The allow bank switch allows MIDI songs to set the PCM drum kit channel to channels other than the standard General MIDI channel 10. The default for this option is to not allow bank switch messages. Channel Config When operating in Dual Mode the Channel Config options allow you to configure which MIDI channels will use PCM voices and which channels will use FM voices. To configure channels click the Channel Config button to expand the OPL4 synth applet window. Channel Select a MIDI channel from the drop down list. PCM Select the PCM radio button to enable PCM voices on the current MIDI channel displayed in the channel list. FM Select the FM radio button to enable FM voices on the current MIDI channel displayed in the channel list. 2 Operator Use the 2 Operator check box to enable or disable the use of 2-operator voices on the selected MIDI channel. 4 Operator Use the 4 Operator check box to enable or disable the use of 4-operator voices on the selected MIDI channel. The current FM Synthesis mode must support the specified number of operators for these buttons to take effect. @jPMPLAYER EXE (wnMPLAYER HLP (iNETWORKSWRI@j NOTEPAD EXE@jPACKAGEREXE@j*PACKAGERHLP@jRPBRUSH DLL@jnInstalling the Windows 3.1 OPL4 Driver For Windows to take advantage of your new OPL4 synthesizer, you must first install a d./NO-.MNOPopCDcd$%Q n r s > ? & / w)>:R3"Us% AD&2^2*,.+-MOACO Q p r $ & 1 } 79')>:<R3"񹹱!!!!!h! h!h!h!h!!!PB"UWs')?AF$&2ۿۿ۹!!!h!!h!h!h!! !!!2F u' 2"8Times New Roman Symbol&Arial"Univers (W1)'6V>9999999999HP LaserJet 4/4MLPT3:HPPCL5EHP LaserJet 4/4M D.Xuuuu"hF%R%- Monty Schmidt Monty Schmidt
