NDC Instant-Link Ethernet PCI Adapter NDIS Driver for Novell Netware Installation ============================================================== This file contains the installation method for the following environments: A. Novell Netware DOS Client. B. Novell Netware 3.11 Server. C. Novell Netware 3.12 Server. D. Novell Netware 4.0 Server. Note for Novell Netware Server : --------------------------------- 1. Use the (LOAD) and (BIND) commands to load the NetWare ODI server driver as described below. For more information on these commands, refer to the Novell NetWare LAN Driver Installation documentation. There are two methods for loading the NetWare Server driver: (1) use the server command line prompt (":") or (2) edit the (AUTOEXEC.NCF) file. If you use the server command line, you will need to load the driver each time the system is booted. If you edit the AUTOEXEC.NCF file, it will automatically load the driver each time the system is booted. 2. Driver Loading Parameters For the definition of the driver loading parameters, refer to the 'SETTING.TXT' file (in the root directory of ND5200 Setup disk). 3. Loading Multiple ND5200 PCI Ethernet adapters If more than one adapter card will be installed in the Novell Netware Server, the user must specify the Board's SLOT number for each card. For example, to load two ND5200 PCI Ethernet Adapters: For Board 1: load ND5200 slot=16 For Board 2: load ND5200 slot=17 * ------------------------------------------------------------ * * A. ODI Driver for Novell NetWare DOS Client Installation * * ------------------------------------------------------------ * The Card comes with a NDCGO2 program which provide a fast way to install your PC as a NetWare workstation. It is recommended you run the NDCGO2 program for the NetWare DOS client installation. Otherwise, follow the procedure below to complete the installation. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE 1) Insert the "ND5200 Setup Diskette" into a floppy drive (A: or B:). 2) Make a directory (usually \NETWARE) on your hard disk (usually C: drive) to hold the Novell NetWare utilities. MD C:\NETWARE 3) Copy these files from the "\NOVELL_W" directory of the "ND5200 Setup Diskette" to the "\NETWARE" directory of your hard disk: LSL.COM ND5200.COM IPXODI.COM NETX.EXE NET.CFG STARTNW.BAT To copy these files, type: COPY A:\NOVELL_W\LSL.COM C:\NETWARE COPY A:\NOVELL_W\ND5200.COM C:\NETWARE COPY A:\NOVELL_W\IPXODI.COM C:\NETWARE COPY A:\NOVELL_W\NETX.COM C:\NETWARE COPY A:\NOVELL_W\NET.CFG C:\NETWARE COPY A:\NOVELL_W\STARTNW.BAT C:\NETWARE (You may use your versions of these programs from Novell instead) 4) Check with your network administrator to make sure that the protocol stack (IPX protocol bound with Ethernet Frame type) defined in the NET.CFG file matches your network. The default protocol stack is: PROTOCOL IPX E0 ETHERNET_802.3 If you are running NetWare 3.12 or 4.0X, you may have to change the frame type to: PROTOCOL IPX E0 ETHERNET_802.2 Note: The others NET.CFG parameters, refer to SETTING.TXT file. (in the root directory of ND5200 Setup Disk.) 5) Make sure the MAM (Media Access Module) is physically connected to the network. From the "\NETWARE" directory of your hard disk, you may use the "STARTNW.BAT" batch file to load the ODI drivers or enter them manually by typing: LSL ND5200 IPXODI NETX LOGIN If you are running NetWare 3.12 or 4.0X, you should change the last line from "NETX" to "VLM". (Note: You may have to install the VLM files by applying the "NetWare Client for DOS" diskettes.) * ------------------------------------------------------------ * * B. ODI Driver for Novell NetWare 3.11 Server Installation * * ------------------------------------------------------------ * INSTALLATION PROCEDURE 1) Boot NetWare by executing (SERVER.EXE). Refer to the appropriate Novell NetWare documentation on loading disk drivers and mounting volumes for more information. 2) Copy the ODI Server driver (ND5200.LAN) and related files from the Instant-Link PCI/ND5200 Driver Set diskette to the hard disk directory where the NetWare 3.11 SYSTEM files are located. The ODI driver and related files are in the following paths on the Instant-Link PCI/ND5200 Driver Set diskette: A:\NOVELL_S\ND5200.LAN A:\NOVELL_S\3.1X\PATCHMAN.NLM A:\NOVELL_S\3.1X\LSLENH.NLM A:\NOVELL_S\3.1X\MSM31X.NLM A:\NOVELL_S\3.1X\ETHERTSM.NLM A:\NOVELL_S\3.1X\MONITOR.NLM 3) To load the driver manually, follow the steps listed below. If you want to load the driver using (AUTOEXEC), go to step 4. Type the following command at the file server console: LOAD LSLENH LOAD ETHERTSM LOAD ND5200 Bind the driver to the IPX protocol stack by typing: BIND IPX TO ND5200 NET=xxxx ( Bind to IPX or any other protocol stack; where e.g., xxxx=1234 ) Then press . The installation of the NetWare Server 3.11 driver is now complete. 4) To load the driver using (AUTOEXEC), you must first edit the (AUTOEXEC.NCF) file. * Type "LOAD INSTALL" at the server prompt (":") to access the Install Utility. * Open the "SYSTEM OPTIONS" menu to access "EDIT AUTOEXEC". * Add the following command lines to the (AUTOEXEC.NCF) file. An example for the Instant-Link PCI/ND5200 Adapter: LOAD ND5200 FRAME=Ethernet_802.2 BIND IPX TO ND5200 NET=xxxx ( Bind to IPX or any other protocol stack; where e.g., xxxx=1234 ) Four frame type protocols may be loaded at the same time. To use this option load and bind the other frame type protocol(s) ( Ethernet_802.3,Ethernet_II,Ethernet_SNAP ) on boot-up. * ------------------------------------------------------------ * * C. ODI Driver for Novell NetWare 3.12 Server Installation * * ------------------------------------------------------------ * INSTALLATION PROCEDURE: 1) Boot NetWare by executing (SERVER.EXE).
