3Com Corporation NDIS 2.01 Drivers Installation Notes IBM LAN Server -------------- This EtherDisk diskette contains Ethernet driver import files for IBM LAN Server. IBM LAN Server 3.0 IBM LAN Server 3.0 contains an installer for both OS/2 (LAPS) and DOS (DXMAID). The installation utility fully supports the OEM network adapter driver import capability. The following section describes how to install the driver for DOS. This version of EtherDisk does not provide OS/2 support for the EtherLink III PCMCIA card. DOS Installation Run the DXMAID installer from the IBM LAN Support diskette. Use the defaults from the first menu. The Process Adapter Option Diskette box prompts you to enter the drive and path for the option diskette. Remove the LAN Support Program Installation diskette, put the 3Com EtherDisk diskette in the drive, and type A:\NDIS\DOS for the drive and path. The installer will pause after it copies the files needed from the EtherDisk diskette. Place the LAN Support diskette back in the drive, and continue the installation. OS/2 Installation Run the LAPS installer from the LAN Adapter and Protocol diskette. From the second menu, select the Install option. LAPS then installs itself and other files, and returns to the second menu. Select Install again. On the next menu, LAPS prompts for a drive and path for installation. Remove the LAPS diskette and insert the EtherDisk diskette in the drive. Type A:\NDIS\OS2 for the drive and path. LAPS will copy the needed files from the EtherDisk diskette. When the acknowledge message appears at the end of the copy, reinsert the LAPS diskette and continue with the installation. IBM LAN Server 2.0 LAN Server 2.0 is not as sophisticated as LAN Server 3.0. Installation can be done successfully, but manual intervention is required. In all cases, the user is required to edit files. DOS Installation Run the DXMAID installer from the LAN Support diskette. Specify the Ethernet adapter installation from the menu. When DXMAID is completed, do the following to complete the installation. 1. Copy the EtherLink/PCMCIA NDIS driver to the hard disk. Insert the EtherDisk into the A: drive, then type: COPY A:\NDIS\DOS\ELPC3.DOS C:\LANMAN 2. Enter the LANMAN subdirectory of your hard disk. Type: CD LANMAN 3. Rename the current PROTOCOL.INI file to save it. Type: REN PROTOCOL.INI PROTOCOL.OLD 4. Append the PROTOCOL.INI fragment from the 3Com EtherDisk diskette. Type: COPY PROTOCOL.OLD + A:\NDIS\DOS\PROTOCOL.INI PROTOCOL.INI 5. Edit the new PROTOCOL.INI file. a. Four lines after the line [ETHERNET], change the line: Bindings = IBMAC to Bindings = ELINKPC3 b. Two lines before the line: ;3C589 3Com EtherLink/PCMCIA adapter change the blank line to [ELINKPC3] c. Save the file and exit the editor. 6. Return to the root directory of your hard disk. Type: CD \ 7. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file. a. Change the line: device = \LANMAN\PROTMAN.DOS to device = \LANMAN\PROTMAN.DOS /I:\LANMAN b. Change the line: device = XX.DOS to device = \LANMAN\ELPC3.DOS c. Save the file and exit the editor. The installation is complete. The LAN Support program activates the next time the machine boots. OS/2 Installation OS/2 2.0 does not offer PCMCIA support; you should upgrade to OS/2 2.1 and LAN Server 3.0. (%VER NDIS - IBM LAN Server v1.4a)
