Description:

Goetz's Directory Details is FREEWARE.
This will display the details of the files in a directory as well as the
option to go through all the subdirectories too. You can sort by name,
date, type, or size. You can print out the results as well. Easy access
from your sendto menu by right clicking on the directory of your choice
in Windows Explorer.
Requires Windows 95 and expects Wordpad to be installed.

*************
Installation:
*************
Unzip all the contents of this zip file into a temporary directory. Then
Run the _install.bat. This will copy the batch files into c:\windows\sendto.

If you have windows installed in another directory or your sendto directory
is not in c:\windows this install will not work. If this is the case, you
will need to edit the _install.bat file with the location of sendto.

Once the installation is complete you can use Goetz's Directory Details.

******
Usage:
******
In Windows Explorer go to a directory (folder) that you want to list.
Right click the mouse on it and choose Send To.
Select Directory Details.
You now have a menu with various choices of how you want to list the
directory.

Name - Lists the files alphabetically.
Type - Lists the files by order of file type.
Date - Lists the files by order of date.
Size - Lists the files by order of their file size.

This menu will only list the files in the directory you choose.
If you want to see the files listed in this directory and all the
subdirectories contained in the directory, choose Tree. Then from that menu
choose one of the four ways to list the files.

When the batch file is running a DOS window will stay open until you close
Wordpad. It will open up Wordpad and you can view the listing. You can print
the listing out or save the listing if you wish. If you decide to save it,
use Save As to save it as another file name. This is because I use a
temporary filename that is deleted when you close Wordpad. If for some
reason the DOS window doesn't close when you close Wordpad, you will need
to close the DOS window manually.

The DOS window will not function unless it has focus. So unless the window
bar is blue (active) it's not going to progress. It's active by default, but
if you go to other programs while it's getting the directory details it will
pause until it gets active again.

Should the temporary file not get erased, it's stored in your temporary
directory with the file name as ~dirlist.tmp . This program relies on
a set temp= statement in your autoexec.bat file. If you don't have this
statement, place a set temp=somedir in autoexec.bat.
First make a dir then set temp to equal that dir. For example
set temp=c:\windows\temp.

If you take a look at the batch files you can see that you can customize
them and add your own detail options based on the options for dir.
You can get the dir instructions by going to a DOS prompt and doing:
dir /?

**********
Uninstall:
**********
If you wish to uninstall Goetz's Directory Details, run the uninstall.bat
file.
If you have windows installed in another directory or your sendto directory
is not in c:\windows this uninstall will not work. If this is the case, you
will need to edit the uninstall.bat file with the location of sendto.
