1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The crossword puzzle is the most widely played word  game, which is
familiar to everyone.  This program combines that entertainment while
providing puzzles with educational value.  Features include saving
and restoring of incomplete puzzles, printing puzzles, word auto
check, clue auto advance, word hints (vowels, consonants, letters),
and background style patterns.  

2. PROGRAM OPERATION

Command Buttons:
Load .............. Opens a dialog box to select a puzzle to load
	            into memory.
Save .............. Saves the currently loaded partially solved
		    puzzle for later restore.  
Rest .............. Opens a dialog box to restore a previously saved
		    puzzle.
Clear ............. Clears the currently loaded puzzle, you will be
		    prompt to save it, if not completed.
Print ............. Prints the currently loaded puzzle to the Windows
		    default printer.  The puzzle may be printed
		    without answers, partially solved, or with
		    answers.
Options ........... Set program options and the background style.

Options:
Auto Advance ...... Enables word auto advance upon completion of a
		    word.
Auto Check ........ Enables word auto check,  this will set the word
		    bold, if it is correct.  A progress bar indicates
		    the percentage of the puzzle which is completed.
Hints ............. Enables the Hints Panel Buttons (Vow, Con, Let).
		    This allows 20% of the total Vowels, Consonants,
		    and Letters from the loaded puzzle as hints.

Keyboard Functions:
Page Up/Down ...... Used to select Across , or Down,  clue list boxes.
Arrow Up/Down ..... Used to select a individual clue within a list box.
Arrow Left/Right... Used to select a individual letter within a word.
		    The word is highlighted light gray and the letter
		    is highlighted cyan.

Mouse Functions ... You can use the mouse to select word positions or
		    word clues.  Selecting a clue with the left mouse
		    button highlights the word position.  Selecting
		    a word position with the left mouse button
		    selects the across clue, and selecting a word
		    position with the right mouse button selects the
		    down clue.

2.5 meg of free disk space for program files 

4. INSTALLATION (using zip file)

CXWORD31.ZIP will have extracted 30 files as listed below:

There are two methods available for installation:

To install directly from the hard disk:
Remove any CD-ROM's and/or diskette(s) from your before proceeding.
Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control
Panel.  Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click Install and then click
Next.  Click Browse, locate the directory where you have previously
unzipped CXWORD31.ZIP, then click on Setup, click on Open, and click on
Finish.  Follow the instructions provided by the setup program.

After you have successfully installed the Xross Word program, you can
delete all the files that were extracted from CXWORD31.ZIP from your
hard drive, as they are no longer required.

To create installation diskettes:
You will need two 1.44 Mb blank formatted diskettes.

Label the 1st diskette: "Centaurus Xross Word, ver 3.1, disk 1 of 2"

Copy to this 1st diskette, the following 10 files, that were extracted
from CXWORD31.ZIP.

Label the 2nd diskette: "Centaurus Xross Word, ver 3.1, disk 2 of 2"

Copy to this 2nd diskette, the following 20 files, that were extracted
from CXWORD31.ZIP.

cxword.ex_	file_id.diz	things.cx_	xw11x11.cx_
cxword.hl_	nations.cx_	threed32.oc_	xw13x13.cx_

Setup Instructions:
Insert disk 1 in drive A:, click the Start Button, point to Settings,
and then click Control Panel.  Double-click Add/Remove Programs, 
click Install, click Next, and then click Finish.  Follow the
instructions provided by the setup program.

After you have successfully installed the Xross Word program, you can
delete all the files that were extracted from CXWORD31.ZIP from your
hard drive, as they are no longer required.

These files will be installed in your \windows\system directory if
they do not exist, or if the existing installed files are not current
versions:

6. SHAREWARE REGISTRATION

This program is a unregistered version for evaluation use only.  It
is distributed as Shareware,  which is based on the honor principal
allowing you to try before you buy.  You may use this program for a
trial period of 14 days at no cost. You will only have access to the
1st puzzle in each of the current 12 puzzle files.  If you continue to
use it beyond the trial period, you are required to pay a registration
fee of $10.00.  Upon doing so, you will receive a registration code by
mail,  with instructions to register the program.  This will allow you
to access all 201 currently available  puzzles, and the removal of the
registration reminder screen.

8. UNINSTALLING

If you have saved any incomplete puzzles, you must delete them before
uninstalling the program.  You can do this by starting Xross Word,
click on Rest, and delete any saved puzzles that you see listed.

Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control
Panel.  Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click Centaurus Xross Word,
and then click on Add/Remove.
