INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
=========================
In order to make online distribution more efficient, the Zip
file does not contain the larger runtime files which are common
to all Visual Basic 4.0 programs. The files you need to have
are:

		 MFC40.DLL 924,432 bytes
		 VB40032.DLL 722,192 bytes
		 MSVCRT40.DLL 326,656 bytes
		 MSVCRT20.DLL 253,952 bytes (Win95_02.cab)

You may already have some of these files so please check you
Windows system folder first if you do not know. In particular,
the files beginning with "M" are not strictly for Visual Basic
(VB) so they are likely to be already installed. For example,
MSVCRT20.DLL is in Win95_02.cab of the Windows 95 CD-ROM so it is
a good assumption that you do not need this file. VB40032.DLL is
strictly for Visual Basic 4.0. So if you know that you have a VB
4.0 program already running then there is no need to get this dll.
If you are installing over version 1.0 bug fix #5 or below first
uninstall this version so as to remove the executable and help
file which have been renamed. VB40032.DLL can be obtained as
vb40032.zip at http://www.coast.net/SimTel/win95/dll.html. All of
the files can be obtained from a number of places on the
Internet. I have found three different places on the Internet
where the files can be downloaded:

		 ftp://ftp.sn.no/user/balchen/vb/runtimes/vb4/
		 http://home.sn.no/~balchen/vb/runtimes/vb4_run.htm
		 http://www.greyware.com/greyware/software/vbrun.htp

After installing these files install the program by running the
setup.exe program. See the Help file for registration information
and the disclaimer.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
===================
This unregistered copy is freely distributable shareware. It can
list only 1000 files at a time while the registered copy is
unlimited. Otherwise it is not crippled in anyway. After 30 uses
you are expected to either remove the program from your computer
or obtain the register version. Please see the Help file for
registration instructions and license information.

This application is for Windows 95 only and requires a 256-color
display or higher. The optional playing of multimedia files
requires a sound card if the file contains auditory data. At
least 16 Mb or more of RAM and a Pentium CPU are recommended.
Another important note is that this application is meant to run
continuously in the background. That is, this program should not
be used to change the wallpaper once and quit.

Backdrop Manager allows the user to easily manage and use bmp,
jpg, pcx, png, tga, and wmf files as wallpaper in wallpaper mode
or as a backdrop in full-screen mode. Gif and tif should be added
to the list of file types in future versions. One can easily
switch between these modes, modify the time interval between
picture changes, and instantly invoke or turn off your screen
saver. When in wallpaper mode, the minimized program is available
as an icon on the taskbar or in the tray area of the taskbar.
Commands are accessed by clicking the right mouse button on the
tray icon. The present wallpaper can be cleared by clicking the
left mouse button on tray icon and then restored by a second click.
In addition when the program is minimized a popup menu can be
invoked anywhere the mouse cursor is by pressing a user-defined
keyboard shortcut. When in full-screen mode commands are accessed
via a popup menu invoked by clicking the right mouse button or
pressing M. Picture information is displayed by clicking the left
mouse button on the screen. In addition some often-used commands
can be accessed via your keyboard.

BUG FIX HISTORY FOR VERSION 1.0
===============================
Bug fix #11:
Title bar caption is updated after a file operation.
Column width of first column in report view is
	  correctly set.
A picture which is too big for both dimensions in full
screen is now panned more smoothly.

In addition the following changes have been made. If a picture is
right- or bottom-justified in a single-image wallpaper view and
then the right-most or bottom-most portion will always be
visible, respectively. The full-screen image can now be panned by
clicking the left mouse button on the image and moving the mouse.
The image can also be moved a pixel at a time by holding down the
CTRL key while pressing the arrow keys. Information is now
obtained by double-clicking the left mouse button. The dimension
for the present-viewed image are now visible in the pop-up menus.

Bug fix #10:
Dialogs invoked from the options can now run context
menu commands with out loosing Z-order for subsequent
dialogs such as the send-to-folder dialog.
If the options dialog Z-order is lost focus can be
regained now since the dialog is now visible in the
	  taskbar.
Bug fix #9:
Moving a folder no longer causes the program to become
	  invisible after minimizing the program.
If a folder is moved or deleted then the files in those
folders are removed from the list. If the folder is
open then the list is refreshed using the active
	  folders if that is desired.
The move confirmation dialog now displays the correct
parent folder from which to move a folder.
Fixed bug where the program did not account for the
path as well as the filename when deciding what file
to use next in the list. Thus if two files had the same
name but different paths only the first file would be
used as wallpaper or full-screen image.
The present sort style is indicated by a check on the
          sort menu.
When the focus is changed to a file as a result of
turning the timer on the image properties are displayed
	  if info mode is on.
Fixed a bug introduced in a previous version where
after the user-set time elapsed and the end of the list
had been reached the program would not wrap around and
use the first file in the list.

Bug fix #8:
Bug which causes the pop-up menu to not display
at times when the program is minimized appears to be
	  fixed.
The wallpaper number should not get lost if the user
switches from one view to another and then back.
Options does not get lost if full-screen is entered.
Fixed problem where hitting the ESC to dismiss a
program invoked by Backdrop Manager does not cause an
escape from a subsequent file operation.
The user can no longer sort by folder or file type when
only one folder or type is represented.
The program checks the path entered in the system.ini
for a "typo" which Desktop Themes has where two
backslashes rather than one are used in the screensaver
	  name.
Made some minor corrections to the help file.

In addition the options dialogue is no longer displayed modally
when in full-screen mode, the title bar reports the last file
used following a list read-in, the Switch View command in
full-screen mode also cause the view to be applied, and the
program now saves the sort choices for latter use.

Bug fix #7:
The wallpaper number should not get lost if the user
switches from one view to another and then back.
Display of scrollbars unnecessarily has been stopped.
Labels should display correctly when using small fonts.
	 Mpegs mute correctly now.

Bug fix #6:
Ghost buttons will no longer display when proceeding
from one full-screen image to another.
The mouse is now always visible when the about box is
	  displayed.
Image is now correctly centered in full-screen view
when it is also not being resized.
An error message will no longer display if a jpeg file
is displayed usng the MCI interface.
If the desktop is hidden and the program is minimized
to the taskbar right-clicking on the screen also gives
	  the popup menu.
In addition the executable and help files were renamed to
bakman.exe and bakman.hlp and the image dimensions are included
in the full-screen information dialog.

Bug fix #5:
Information should no longer be displayed in the status bar
when the options dialog is visible.
Additional status information when moving or deleting
of a group of files is displayed. This is only noticable when
large numbers of files are moved or deleted.
Scroll bars should no longer obscure the image when the picture is
justified to the right or bottom.
The filter should now be correctly updated after being changed.
If the user is trying to add the same files when in append mode or
via drag-n-drop notification is given in the status bar.

Bug fix #4 corrected an error introduced in the last release
where the full screen view could not be invoked using the view
command.

The most important error corrected in bug fix #3 is that the view
and edit menus are no longer interchanged in terms of function.

Bug fix #2:
When scroll bars are displayed in full-screen mode they
now correctly respond to the keyboard.
"Too many files error" when reading in the image
dimensions in report view is no longer displayed. This
did not matter to the previous unregistered versions
since only 50 files were read.
In full-screen mode a scroll bar is displayed if the
other scroll bar obscures an image which is not bigger
that the screen in the dimension being blocked.
The file-list pane no longer loses focus if the program
	  shells to an external program.
Speeded up the viewing of all files that occurs when no
	  items are selected.
Items in the file list pane are correctly sorted when
	  the menu commands are used.
Playing of the first file in the list occurs if a wild
card is used and play is initiated because of a program
	  event.

In addition, the limit for images read in was increased to 1000
in order to allow a better evaluation of the program.

Bug fix #1:

Popup and system menus now correctly indicate that the
screen saver is on when the program first starts.
Sorting by either ID, file size, or date now works
correctly when clicking the column in report view.
Checking "Speed fill" after the program starts no
longer gives the fatal "element not found error".
The search for selected items is now transparent, i.e.
          much faster.
Focus for viewer shelled to is no longer lost.
Program now correctly toggles to a view of bmp files
          after decoding files.
Bmp files are now listed correctly after decoding
          externally.
User can escape from processing of long lists of
          files.
Speeded up the totaling of file sizes.
