NSF-GPG Package 2.0 for Macintosh and Windows

Researchers applying for grants from the National Science Foundation
may wish to be aware of these computer-based replicas of the NSF grant
application forms. Using Microsoft Word tables and Excel spreadsheets,
the forms are reconstructed to look like their paper counterparts. The
forms are easily completed on the computer by tabbing through the cells
and entering the required data. The completed forms are printed on a
laser or inkjet printer.

The Budget Summary forms are built in an Excel template, driven by a
Excel macro language program that prompts the users for details about
the research proposal. The program configures the template for the
intended platform and sets up the correct number of pages. The macro
also contains code to reformat budgets when they are shared with users
on another system or platform.

This version now includes ALL the forms in the Grant Proposal Guide
(GPG) of 2/94: the complete set of forms from the Grant Proposal Kit,
plus the Final Report, Grant Progress Report, Grant Transfer Request,
and Disclosure of Lobbying Activities forms. It is the first release
designed to work on Windows as well as the Macintosh.

Requirements:
    Microsoft Word 4 or higher
    Excel 3 or higher
Times and Helvetica fonts for Macintosh
Times, Helvetica, and Arial for Windows

The Windows version was adapted from the Macintosh edition, which has
been used successfully by many people for the last several years. The
only differences between the versions are 1) the filenames for Windows
have been shortened, 2) some of the Page Setups, row heights, and line
heights have been adjusted, and 3) the files are archived in formats
appropriate to each platform. The budget macro was revised to allow the
same code to run on both platforms.

This package is offered as freeware and may be reposted or distributed
as an unmodified set.

* Note to Windows Users: Since I do not have a Windows PC at my
disposal, testing has been limited to a single machine using Word 6,
Excel 5, and an IBM laser printer. I'd appreciate hearing about any
problems encountered with earlier versions of Word or Excel, or any
peculiarities with your particular printer.

Several collections similar grant application forms for other agencies is
available at the Institute for Geophysics gopher,

The NSF-UNOLS Ship Request Form, which used to be included with the
Macintosh version of this set, is available separately for the Mac, and
soon will be converted to Windows as well.
