GRAMMAR SLAMMER--Slam your Grammar Agony with

The Program that answers the questions the Grammar Checkers can't

                                Ami Pro Edition

GRAMMAR SLAMMER answers those questions that the Grammar Checkers
can't! GRAMMAR SLAMMER helps you in your writing and grammar the
simplest way known to Windows Word Processor users. Grammar
Checkers are helpful, but they are limited. They miss things and
often ask you questions you can't answer. ("Do you want a comma
here?"--"How should I know?" you reply.) Disk-based grammar
books can help, but they are cumbersome to use. GRAMMAR SLAMMER,
on the other hand, supplements the Grammar Checker by providing
answers in a format that you already know how to use--the Windows
Help File! One click on a Word Processor Macro and it pops up,
ready to go! No office or computer which depends on word processors
        should be without it!

You can also use GRAMMAR SLAMMER as an English grammar tutorial.
With networked classes or computer projectors, it can be your class
        notes.

How to Install the Grammar Slammer Ami Pro for Windows Macro

The macro you need to run Grammar Slammer from Ami Pro for Windows
(any version which uses macros) is GRAMSLAM.SMM. You may want to
use the macro GSAUTO if you want to autoload GRAMMAR SLAMMER
and run it from a minimized Windows Icon. You may want to read
read the macro to insure that it will read GRAMMAR SLAMMER from
correct directory. The macro has GRAMMAR SLAMMER in the directory
C:\GRAMSLAM. If you have GRAMMAR SLAMMER (GRAMDEMO.HLP) in a
directory other than C:\GRAMSLAM, change C:\GRAMSLAM in the
macro file to the proper directory and/or drive. (For some, it
may be easier simply to create a C:\GRAMSLAM directory and copy
GRAMDEMO.HLP to that directory).

Copy GRAMSLAM.SMM and GSAUTO.SMM to the Ami Pro directory in which
all your macros are stored. (For most systems that would be
C:\AMIPRO\MACROS).

To Run GRAMMAR SLAMMER you have six choices: 1) Run it from
the "Run Macro" routine from the menu, 2) Add it to the Ami Pro
Menu and then click on the menu choice when you want to run it,
3) Add the GRAMSLAM.BMP to the toolbar and then click on the
Grammar Slammar icon when you want it to appear, 4) Assign
a "shortcut key" to the GRAMMAR SLAMMER macro and use that
key combination to get GRAMMAR SLAMMER to run, 5) Run it
from a mimimized icon which loads each time you run Ami Pro
or a specific Ami Pro document or style, or 6) Run it from a regular
Windows icon in one of the Program Manager Windows.

Running GRAMMAR SLAMMER from the "Run Macro" Menu

Click on the "Tools" menu choice. Then click on the "Macros"
menu choice. Then click on the "Playback" menu choice.
A dialog box appears with a list of all the Ami Pro macros in
the macro directory. (All the names end with ".SMM"). Click
on or enter the file name "GRAMSLAM.SMM", then click on the "OK"
button.

Installing GRAMMAR SLAMMER to the Ami Pro Menu

If you want to add GRAMMAR SLAMMER to the Ami Pro menu, follow
the directions for running a macro as in the last paragraph.
Instead of choosing "GRAMSLAM.SMM," choose "AMIMENUS.SMM" and
run that macro. Follow the directions you are given, and you
will add GRAMMAR SLAMMER to the menu in the position you want it.
You will want to add the macro "GRAMSLAM.SMM" when asked to do so.
(There is also a toolbar button which, if installed, can do this
in fewer steps. Look for the toobar button that looks like a
Windows menu and click on it.)
After the name "Grammar Slammer" is installed on your Ami Pro
menu, simply click on the menu choice any time you want to use
it.

Installing GRAMMAR SLAMMER to the Ami Pro Toolbar

Make sure the file GRAMSLAM.BMP is installed in your main AMIPRO
directory (normally C:\AMIPRO).
Follow the usual procedure for adding "smarticons" to the toolbar.
Associate the GRAMMAR SLAMMER icon with the GRAMSLAM.SMM macro and
insert the smarticon where you want it on the active toolbar. Then
you may click on the GRAMMAR SLAMMER icon and GRAMMAR SLAMMER will
appear. (The procedure varies slightly between Ami Pro for Windows
version 2 and version 3. The macro works with both.)

For Ami Pro for Windows 2 install the GRAMMAR SLAMMER icon this way:
Choose "Tool" from the menu, then "Smarticons," then "Customize." You
have a screen with 3 groups of icons pictured: "Standard Icons,"
"Current Palette," and "Custom Icons."
Look for the GRAMMAR SLAMMER exclamation point icon in the custom icons
to make sure it is there. Click on the "Assign Macro" button and then
click on the "Next Icon" button until the correct icon appears in the
"Selected Icon" box. Then choose or enter "GRAMSLAM.SMM" from the
"Macros" list. Click on "Save." The macro is now assigned to the
GRAMMAR SLAMMER icon. Now, back at the "Customize Smarticons" dialog
box, click on GRAMMAR SLAMMER icon, and holding your left mouse button
down, drag the icon to the "Current Palette" box and drop it by
releasing the mouse button in the position where you want the icon.
Click on "OK." The macro is now saved to the GRAMMAR SLAMMER icon.
You may now click on the GRAMMAR SLAMMER icon and GRAMMAR SLAMMER will
appear.

For Ami Pro for Windows 3 install the GRAMMAR SLAMMER icon this way:
Choose "Tools" from the menu, then "Smarticons," then "Edit icon."
Scroll through "Available icons" list until you find the "G" with
exclamation point GRAMMAR SLAMMER icon. Click on it and it should
appear as your choice in the "Bitmap Editor" to the right. Choose
or enter "GRAMSLAM.SMM" from the "Macros" list. The name should
appear in the "Run Macro" box and there should be a description in the
description box. (You may enter or change this if you like.) Click
on "New Icon." The new Smarticon is added to the "Available Icons" list.
Now, using the "Available Icons" box from the "Edit Smarticons" dialog
box, drag the GRAMMAR SLAMMER icon the position you want. It will
appear in that position in your toolbar. You may now click on the
GRAMMAR SLAMMER icon any time you use Ami Pro for Windows 3, and
GRAMMAR SLAMMER will appear.

Assigning a Shortcut Key to the GRAMMAR SLAMMER Macro

Click on the "Tools" menu choice. Then click on the "Macros"
menu choice. Then click on the "Edit" menu choice.
A dialog box appears with a list of all the Ami Pro macros in
the macro directory. (All the names end with ".SMM"). Click
on or enter the file name "GRAMSLAM.SMM", and the macro is
ready to be modified. Click the mouse pointer in the "Playback
shortcut keys" box and the cursor will appear there. Press the
key combination you want to use to play the macro, it will be recorded
in the "Playback shortcut keys" box if it is a useable key. Click
on the "OK" key and the key combination will be saved. We recommend
Shift+Control+G because this is not a pre-assigned key and it is easy
to remember ("G" for "Grammar").
Note: Be sure to check your Ami Pro manual to insure you do not change
a key combination that you might need later. Your manual will also tell
you which keys and key combinations are assignable and which are not.

Adding GRAMMAR SLAMMER to the Windows Program Manager

If you want to be able to run GRAMMAR SLAMMER from a Window apart from
the Word Processor Macro command, you must install the program into your
Windows Program Manager. Click once on any program in the Window you want
to place GRAMMAR SLAMMER in. Click on the "File" Menu Option then the
"New" Menu Option. Now a dialog box appears. Fill in the "Program Name"
box with the name of the program, i.e. "Grammar Slammer Demo." For the
"Command Line" box write in "WinHelp C:\GRAMSLAM\GRAMSLAM.HLP." (Do not
add the quotation marks or final period. Name the correct directory if
you installed GRAMSLAM.HLP in a directory other than C:\GRAMSLAM.) The
Working directory is "C:\GRAMSLAM" unless you installed the program in
another directory. Add a "Short Key" only if you want. Then click on the
"OK" button. The program is now installed in the Window with the standard
Question Mark as an icon. For a more elegant icon, install the
GRAMSLAM.ICO file in either the same directory as GRAMMAR SLAMMER or
the directory where you keep your icons. Click on the "File" Menu Option,
then the "Properties" option. This brings up a dialog box with a number
of buttons including on which says "Change Icon." Click on that button
and add the directory and filename of the GRAMSLAM.ICO file--for
example "C:\GRAMSLAM\GRAMSLAM.ICO," or whatever directory you put the
GRAMSLAM.ICO file in. Click on "OK" and now the regular GRAMMAR SLAMMER
icon is in place in a Window. Double click on the icon to run the program.

Running GRAMMAR SLAMMER from a Windows Icon within Ami Pro

You may also run GRAMMAR SLAMMER from a minimized Windows icon in Ami
Pro. You can setup Ami Pro so that GRAMMAR SLAMMER automatically loads
each time you run Ami Pro. Click on "Tools" and "User Setup." You
are given a dialog box with many boxes. Click on the "Program Load"
check box by "Run Macros" and then choose or write in "GSAUTO.SMM"
in the list box next to it. Click on "OK." The next time you load
Ami Pro, GRAMMAR SLAMMER will load, too, and then leave a minimized icon.
Double-click on the icon at any time to open the GRAMMAR SLAMMER file.
(Due to the limitations of the Windows Help File format, GRAMMER SLAMMER
must first load full size before being minimized. This only takes a
tenth of a second to accomplish on most computers.) Follow similar
procedures according to your Ami Pro Operating Manual if you want to
have Ami Pro load this way with a certain file, file type, or style.
Use GSAUTO.SMM.

If you already have a macro set to load when you load Ami Pro and you
want to add the GSAUTO.SMM macro, then you need to load the AUTORUN.SMM
(sometimes _AUTORUN.SMM) macro and follow the instructions in your Ami
Pro operator's manual. (Basically, run AUTORUN.SMM from Tools/Macro/
Playback, and follow the directions by choosing the Macros you want to
load, including GSAUTO.SMM.)
