MVSP is a copyrighted shareware program produced by Kovach
Computing Services. Descriptions and system requirements for
the software appear later in this document.

MVSP may be freely copied and distributed, so long as the
following conditions are met:

1) The program must be distributed in its entirety. All the
files listed in the FILES.LST file must be included.

2) The program and documentation files must not be modified in
any way. In particular, all copyright messages must remain
   intact.

3) A fee may be charged for distribution so long as you
clearly explain the shareware concept to recipients. You
must make it clear to users that they are buying an
evaluation copy of the program and that they are required
to register the program with Kovach Computing Services if
they intend to continue using it. You must not describe
the software as "free" or "public domain".

4) The documentation files must not be distributed in printed
   form.

5) Distribution in retail environments requires prior written
permission from Kovach Computing Services. We reserve the
right to charge royalties for distribution in retail
   environments.

Short description:
MVSP - A MultiVariate Statistical Package, ver. 2.1

Medium Description:
MVSP - A MultiVariate Statistical Package (ver. 2.1) performs a
variety of ordination and cluster analyses. It provides an
inexpensive yet easy means of analysing your data in fields
ranging from ecology and geology to sociology and market
research. MVSP performs several types of eigenanalysis
ordinations: principal components (PCA), principal coordinates
(PCO), and correspondence/detrended correspondence analyses
(CA/DCA). It can also perform cluster analysis, using eighteen
different distance or similarity measures and seven clustering
strategies. Diversity indices may be calculated on ecological
data; these include Simpson's, Shannon's, and Brillouin's
indices.

Long Description:
MVSP - A MultiVariate Statistical Package (ver. 2.1) is a program
for the IBM-PC and compatibles that performs a variety of
ordination and cluster analyses. It provides an inexpensive yet
easy means of analysing your data in fields ranging from ecology
and geology to sociology and market research. MVSP is in use at
over 1000 sites in 45 countries. The results of analyses using
MVSP have been published in numerous academic journals, including
Science, Nature, Ecology, Journal of Petroleum Geology, and
Journal of Biogeography.

MVSP performs several types of eigenanalysis ordinations:
principal components (PCA), principal coordinates (PCO), and
correspondence/ detrended correspondence analyses (CA/DCA).
It can also perform cluster analysis, using eighteen different
distance or similarity measures and seven clustering
strategies. Diversity indices may be calculated on ecological
data; these include Simpson's, Shannon's, and Brillouin's
indices. Data matrices up to 750x750 may be analysed. Data
can be imported from Lotus 1-2-3 and Symphony and the Cornell
Ecology Programs or entered using the built-in data editor.

Once your data have been analysed you can plot the results
directly. Select the ordination axes you want to see and
scattergrams will be drawn. Dendrograms of the cluster
analysis results are produce automatically. These graphs can
then be printed on a variety of output devices, including
Epson dot-matrix, IBM Proprinter, HP Laserjet & Deskjet, HP
Paintjet, and Postscript laser printers, HP plotters, and .PCX
bitmap files

MVSP is simple to use. You do not need to type lengthy
commands or set up command files. Instead, just select a data
file from a list, pick a few options off the menus, and press
a single key to start the analysis. Yet MVSP gives you the
power of the most expensive programs. It has a wide range of
analyses, with numerous variations. You can choose the right
type of analysis for your data, then save the settings so that
your next analysis is even easier.

New features in ver. 2.1 include
o Detrended correspondence analysis
o Built-in dendrogram production - drawn automatically in either
   graphic or text mode
o Improved printer support - can now output text and/or graphics
on Epson dot-matrix, IBM Proprinter, HP Laserjet & Deskjet, HP
Paintjet, and Postscript laser printers, HP plotters, and .PCX
   bitmap files.
o Data import and export - transfer data between MVSP and the
following file formats: Lotus 1-2-3 and Symphony, Cornell
   Ecology Program.
o Save ordination scores to Lotus files - for further analysis
   or graphing.
o Execute DOS commands - from the MVSP menu
o Several improvements in the user interface & bug fixes
