Introduction

This software is designed to help network administrators of a Novell LAN find users with poor
passwords. It will test a given list of words against a known login. Once a password is found it will
write the login and password to a file. This software will log the password to a file that is visible and we
the authors do not promote the use of this software for any illegal or unmoral purposes. It's use is strictly
under your control and we will not be liable for any damages of any kind. This is a valuable tool for
administrators since it allows you to find potential security problems. It also allows the user to test there
password for potentially poor passwords. Please do not hesitate to bring new ideas to our attention. And
if you find a bug in the program please write to us at our address giving as much information about the
problem as possible. This should include as a minimum:
1. Operating system and release.
2. The PC's hardware and memory configuration.
3. Detail description of the trouble. (print screen is helpful)

NETSEC.EXE

Description: NETSEC was designed to help network administrators look for security breaches in the
network. It will attempt to find the password from a user defined list ( PASSWORD.LST file ) for a given
login. If it is successful it will log the login and password to a file named PASSWORD.LOG.

  Syntax: NETSEC < login >

  Example: NETSEC j.blow
This will use the password.lst file against the login j.blow. It will write the login and password to
the file password.log if it finds the correct password.

Notes:
1. The SHAREWARE version of NETSEC will only use the file PASSWORD.LST for it's passwords.
2. The SHAREWARE version of NETSEC will only use the first 6 characters of the word in the
PASSWORD.LST file. This limitation is removed in the registered versions.
3. The SHAREWARE version of NETSEC will only use the first (50) fifty words in the
PASSWORD.LST file. This limitation is removed in the registered versions.

PASSWORD.LST
The words in the password.lst file should be words that may be common passwords. In the SHAREWARE
version the first (6) six characters of the word will be used.

Example: The word in the file is airplane the SHAREWARE version will use airpla as the
password.

The file should consist of names, company specific words or other simple words. The file should be
designed with one word per line. Please see the file password.lst.

Register today
We hope that this software has provided you with a valuable tool in keeping your network secure. If you
find this software useful and continue to use it after it's trial period then please show your support for the
SHAREWARE concept and register it today. The authors do not promote the use of this software for any
illegal or immoral purposes. You are required to read the disclaimer for this product and must accept all
responsibilities for this software to register or use either the SHAREWARE or registered versions.

If you register you will need to choose from two options.(LITE or PRO) Both options will allow a
password.lst file which removes the limitations of using only the first (50) words and using only the first
six characters of the words. In addition a command line switch allows the password to be tested both
forward and reversed.
Example: the word hello will also be tested as olleh .

The first version which is called the Lite version will only test a known login name. You must know and
supply the login which you want to test the security of.

The second version Known as the Pro will provide a listing of users login so you may select the login to
test. In addition you may choose multiple logins for testing. Nice option to let run over the weekend.
