                        Budget Planner 2.1 -- README
 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
   Welcome to Budget Planner 2.1!

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS FOR BUDGET PLANNER 2.1:
   --------------------------------------------
o 64K or more RAM (.EXE is compiled with overlay structures)
   o 80286 or higher processor
o 550K hard disk space for software and documentation
   o Mouse driver installed
o VGA color graphics card (for 50 x 80 text screens)

   TO INSTALL BUDGET PLANNER:
   -------------------------
Run INSTALL.COM from either a floppy diskette or your hard disk

   TO RUN BUDGET PLANNER:
   ---------------------
The first time you run BP21.EXE, the program will create two files to
hold your expense information in. They are:

      BP.DAT BP.K01

BP.DAT is the data file which holds your expense records in the order
   which they are entered (sequential).

BP.K01 is a "key" file which sorts BP.DAT's records in the following order:
     Budget Description

   IMPORTANT:
   ---------
MAKE SURE YOU OBSERVE ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:
   1. BP.DAT AND BP.K01 MUST RESIDE IN THE SAME DIRECTORY AS BP21.EXE IN
ORDER TO BE ACCESSIBLE. DO NOT PUT THE DATA FILES IN A DIFFERENT
DIRECTORY OR SUBDIRECTORY OR THE PROGRAM WILL GENERATE THREE NEW EMPTY
       FILES.

   2. DO NOT DELETE BP.K01. THE FILE IS NECESSARY FOR THE REPORTING OPTIONS
       BUILT INTO BUDGET PLANNER 2.1.

   3. DO NOT RENAME BP.DAT OR BP.K01. IF THEY ARE RENAMED, THE PROGRAM WILL
       GENERATE THREE NEW EMPTY FILES.

   4. MAKE PERIODIC BACKUPS OF YOUR INFORMATION. THE ONLY WAY TO RESTORE
INFORMATION IS FROM A BACKUP COPY.

   5. USE CAUTION when restoring an "old" set of BP files for referencing
records from a different file set. A suggested procedure for doing so
       is this:

       a. Make a backup of your CURRENT BP files (both of them).
       b. Restore (or copy) the "old" BP files to the directory where the
Budget Planner program file (BP21.EXE) is.
       c. Run Budget Planner as normal.
       d. When you are ready to return to your "current" records, restore
(or copy) the files from step 1 to the directory where the Budget
           Planner program file (BP21.EXE) is.
       e. Run Budget Planner as normal.
