NEW ORLEANS, La. -- August 30, 1995 -- Zenith Data Systems (ZDS) is the
overall highest rated desktop and notebook hardware vendor in the 1995
VARBusiness Annual Report Card. The announcement was made at an awards
dinner during CompTIA's Breakaway Conference in New Orleans Sunday night.
ZDS received the best overall score in VARBusiness' tenth annual survey of
value added resellers (VARs), outranking eight competitors evaluated in
the category including Compaq, IBM, Hewlett Packard, Dell and Apple. VARs
rated participating vendors in the areas of product, pricing, support and
partnership.

"Winning the VARBusiness Annual Report Card survey is tremendous
recognition and an accomplishment we are very proud of," said Cliff Jenks,
ZDS executive vice president of sales and marketing. "We've focused a lot
of energy on the VAR channel in the last few years. To be voted the best
by the VARs themselves means those efforts are paying off in tangible
results." "Winning first place overall is the most coveted title of all
the awards in the Annual Report Card," said Richard March, associate
publisher-editorial of VARBusiness. "(ZDS) showed the rest of the field
how it's done. They surpassed the average score in this product group by
more than 10 points, and they were four points away from the closest
contender."

A Golden Score Card

In addition to achieving the highest overall score in the VARBusiness
Annual Report Card for desktops/notebooks, Zenith Data Systems won the
Best Support and Best Partnership categories by ranking first or second by
resellers in the following subcategories: pre-sales and marketing support,
technical support quality and accessibility, ease of doing business with
and managing channel conflict. VARs also rated ZDS tops in product
availability and profitability. "These ratings confirm the success of our
Z-LINK GOLD VAR Program," said Jenks. "We currently have 1,200 Z-LINK GOLD
resellers -- up from less than 500 two years ago -- and VARs represent an
increasingly important portion of them. The score card results demonstrate
the reasons why resellers love to do business with us."

The Z-LINK GOLD Reseller Program offers flexible terms, strong margins and
more reseller benefits than commonly found in VAR programs, without
stringent authorization requirements. Categories within the program
accommodate various selling commitments. Qualified resellers simply agree
to sell a minimum amount of Zenith Data Systems products. Z-LINK GOLD
resellers are not required to carry the entire product line, and may
purchase products from the most convenient source of distribution while
enjoying the sales support benefits of a direct relationship with ZDS. An
inside Zenith Data Systems sales representative is assigned to each
reseller enrolled in Z-LINK. Sales lead referrals and assistance with
large sales and back-up sourcing are provided, as are business development
funding and employee purchase programs. ZDS also offers Z-LINK resellers
attractive demo programs, free product literature and advertising art
materials. "We treat our VARs like gold because they play a key role in
the ZDS success story," commented Jenks. "Nothing short of premium sales
and technical support for our reseller channel is what our VARs need to
maintain their momentum and satisfaction, and also what they deserve. ZDS
is clearly committed to this resource."

About the Survey

The 1995 VARBusiness Annual Report Card is the only comprehensive research
report on VAR/vendor relationships of its kind. It is an annual benchmark
of VARs' ratings of their relationship with 50 hardware, software and
networking vendors. All VARs surveyed have been authorized by the
participating vendor for a minimum of six months. Over 2,270 resellers are
interviewed via telephone, mail and fax regarding ten factors which
evaluate the vendors' product and distribution channel strategies. VARs
rate the importance of each factor and then rate the vendors'
performance/resellers' satisfaction in each area. The overall score is
weighted to incorporate the relative importance of each factor. The
official results will be published in the October 15 VARBusiness Annual
Report Card Issue.
