High Performance Tools Debut on PC

Viewlogic Introduces Windows-Based EDA Tool Suite

MARLBORO, MA, SEPT. 18, 1995 -- Viewlogic Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: VIEW)
today introduced Workview Office, a fully Windows-compliant EDA tool suite
that runs on Windows NT, Windows 95 and Windows 3.1 platforms. It offers
high performance tools never before available on the PC. These include
such high end point tools as MOTIVE timing analysis and XTK crosstalk
analysis tools from Quad Design, the SpeedWave VHDL simulator from
Vantage, and the VCS Verilog simulator from Chronologic Simulation. The
Workview Office tool suite combines exceptional performance with
unparalleled tool interoperability on the PC platform.

The Workview Office tool suite also includes the entire, traditional
Viewlogic suite of PC-based design tools. All of the tools in the Workview
Office suite have been re-engineered to conform to the Microsoft Windows
environment and offer tool interoperability via Microsoft object linking
and embedding (OLE 2.0). The use of OLE allows interoperability with any
other software designed to the same specification including other vendor's
EDA tools and standard Windows office productivity tools like Word and
Excel.

"The Workview Office environment offers the most powerful EDA solutions
available and is scaleable from low cost entry-level solutions to high
performance, sophisticated applications for high-end customers, " says
Rick Lucier, Vice President of the Viewlogic PC Group. "We believe that
the Workview Office environment will be the catalyst driving the platform
shift in the EDA industry, primed by the competitive performance of the PC
platform and the robust Windows operating system. It is also important to
note that the Workview Office database is compatible with Viewlogic's
Powerview UNIX environment. This is a critical element in aiding the
market shift."

High performance tools on Windows platforms complement the office
productivity tools that currently exist and eliminate the need for a
separate EDA design system and personal computer, lowering the total cost
of EDA tool ownership. The Workview Office environment is scaleable so
designers can migrate from a low cost, node locked Windows 95-based
environment to a high performance, Windows NT network.

"For scientific and engineering applications, personal computers running
the Windows NT operating system are now powerful enough to compete with or
even outperform many UNIX workstations" says Rich Tong, Business Systems
Division Marketing Manager at Microsoft. "Viewlogic Systems, with the
Workview Office introduction, and its commitment to bring the company's
UNIX design tools into the Windows environment, is one of the leaders in
the EDA market as electronic designers shift from UNIX to the Windows
design environment."

"The introduction of Windows 95/NT will forever change the course of design
technology", says Ron Collett, President of Collett International. By the
end of the decade, the Windows-based EDA tool revenue will equal UNIX tool
revenue and by the year 2005, UNIX-based EDA software revenue will be less
than 15% of the overall electronic design market. The availability of
applications such as Workview Office will most certainly help to
accelerate the use of Windows-based tools in the EDA market."

"There's inertia in the market in the form of a large installed base of
workstations and the fact that there are many more UNIX applications than
are available for Windows", notes Dataquest Industry Analyst, Gary Smith.
"Viewlogic's Workview Office environment and the availability of their
high end tools, like MOTIVE and VCS, will shift the momentum away from
UNIX for the mainstream designer. With these new NT introductions I expect
Viewlogic to retain their position as the leader in the PC-based CAE
market."

In addition to the previously announced SpeedWave for Windows simulator and
ViewSynthesis for Windows, the Workview Office introduction includes an
impressive collection of industry leading point tools. The industry's
fastest Verilog simulator from Chronologic Simulation, VCS is being
introduced as VCS for Windows along with the Digital Fusion interface,
which merges Speedwave with VCS. A common source-level debugger is used
for both hardware description languages. Two tools from Quad Design will
also be introduced -- MOTIVE for Windows, a timing analysis tool and XTK
for Windows, a crosstalk tool. Also available to designers will be a new
ViewDraw schematic editor supporting all of Viewlogic's PCB interfaces, a
new Design Manager, ViewSim, ViewSpice, Spicelink, Analog Fusion (mixed
signal simulation with ViewSim and ViewSpice), ViewDatabook and ViewBase.

The first release of Workview Office is scheduled to be available in Q4
1995. Additional tools will become available throughout 1995 and 1996.
Workview Plus and PRO Series customers, under maintenance, will be
advanced to a comparable configuration in Workview Office.
