SYBASE ANNOUNCES NEW COMPUTER- AND VIDEO-BASED TRAINING COURSES

New Multimedia and Computer-Based Training to also be Introduced Over the
Next Several Months

EMERYVILLE, CA, August 28, 1995 -- Sybase, Inc., The Enterprise
Client/Server Company, today officially announced the Sybase Self-Study
Training Series, offering more than 50 computer- and video-based training
courses. The Self-Study Series complements Sybases existing robust
instructor-led worldwide customer training program, and positions Sybase
as a leader in self-study programs for client/server software vendors.
Sybase offers self-study materials through its Worldwide Professional
Services organization, and provides courseware in conjunction with
industry leaders in self-study technical training products, such as CBT
Systems, J3 Learning, and O/S Services LTD. The Sybase self-study program
provides training on a broad range of topics, including SYBASE SQL Server,
migration to new versions of products, and relational database design for
computer professionals. Sybase also announced that over the next several
months it will introduce a suite of three new titles in its interactive,
CD-ROM based Sybase Knowledge through Interactive Learning Systems (SKILS)
family of products.

Sybase is committed to offering a solutions approach to training that
successfully moves customers from a legacy environment to client/server
technology, said Liz Burns, general manager, Worldwide Customer Education
at Sybase. While live, instructor-led training is always going to be
important, we are now also addressing our customers growing need for
training alternatives, when instructor-led training is not convenient for
them.

We offer customers self-study training options on SYBASE specific topics,
as well as non-SYBASE specific topics such as Unix, C++, and networks.

Sybase Self-Study Courses

Sybases self-study courses are designed to provide students with a
convenient, cost-effective alternative to instructor-led courses. In
todays fast-paced business world, many businesses lack the time and
resources to train employees to maximize the effectiveness of their
information technology. Sybases self-study courses can save organizations
time and travel expenses, since users can learn client/server techniques
while at the office, home, or on the road.

According to recent IDC research, technical training is becoming more of a
self-directed activity. In fact, IDC estimates that in 1995, nearly 20
percent of IT training and education will be delivered via a
technology-based training delivery format, said Ellen Hersh, senior
analyst, IT Training and Research Division, International Data
Corporation. IT professionals need to have the tools so they can
immediately begin learning the technology. With the addition of such a
wide variety of training tools to its training portfolio, Sybase is
clearly responding to this significant customer need.

Video-Based Training

Sybase now offers more than 20 video-based training products. Offered in
conjunction with J3 Learning (formerly LEARN PC/Hands On Learning), they
include such course titles as Introduction to SYBASE SQL Server System 10,
Migrating to SQL Server System 10, SYBASE Performance and Tuning, and
Introduction to the Database World. These courses combine video
instruction with course books, third-party reference materials, and
hands-on, computer-based exercises.

Computer-Based Training

Sybase, in conjunction with CBT Systems and O/S Services, LTD., world
leaders in client/server training software, offers more than 30
computer-based training courses, including Sybase training titles such as
Overview of SYBASE System 10, Server Programming in SYBASE System 10, and
System Administration in SYBASE System 10. In addition, Sybases
relationship with CBT Systems and O/S Services brings training to Sybase
customers on related client/server technologies such as PowerBuilder,
Unix, and the C and C++ programming languages.

New SKILS Multimedia Training

In addition to the new video- and computer-based programs, Sybase this year
plans to introduce a suite of new titles for its SKILS family of CD-ROM
based training products. SKILS is an interactive program that uses text,
graphics, animation, simulation and sound to provide self-defined,
self-paced training in a format unique in the industry. The SKILS tools
and features are the most advanced user productivity tools available with
on-line training products today. The SKILS suite, scheduled for Winter 95
release, will include revisions to Introduction to Transact-SQL, SQL
Server Administration, and Fast Track to SYBASE SQL Server.

The Sybase Worldwide Customer Training Program

The Self-Study Series complements Sybases existing worldwide customer
training program, which began in 1987 and offers more than 45
instructor-led courses for database administrators, developers, designers
and business managers. The instructor-led lecture and lab courses are
