First Mirror Link transportable hard drive systems are here!

Summatec's new 1GB+ format is a pocket-sized, high-performance revolution
in transportable storage media- and now it's available.

August 25, 1995/Vista, California: Introduced at June's PC EXPO in New York
City, the first Mirror Link transportable hard drive systems are now
shipping into an eager network of resellers. "Of course, we expected some
demand for a 1.3GB transportable drive that loads and ejects like a
floppy," says Derrill Fussell, President of Summatec International
Marketing. "But when a single large dealer asked to buy our entire first
three months of production, we knew we'd come up with absolutely the right
product at the right time. Just about any computer user- home or office-
can benefit from the Mirror Link."

The Mirror Link system consists of a 2.5 inch high-performance hard disk
drive in a sealed, high-impact cartridge, and an external or internal
docking station which includes all required interfacing electronics (SCSI
or IDE). A series of controllers are available for high-data users. The
unique design is patented, with additional patents pending and copyrights
established. Priced at roughly $1.00 per megabyte, the Mirror Link is
competitive with the majority of removable disk formats- and considerably
more powerful.

"Anyone considering adding a new hard drive- for back-up, new applications,
or simply more storage space- can add the convenience of a transportable
and exchangeable format at the same time" notes Bryan Fifield, Summatec
Computer Corporation's Vice President of Marketing. "With modular hard
drives, one can dedicate an entire hard disk to particular files,
applications or even operating systems. That's a big advantage for anyone
involved with very large files (such as digital photography, multimedia or
medical imaging), large databases, or any work that is classified or
sensitive. Best of all, this storage system is also a real working
environment. Desktop publishers and graphics designers, for example, have
long put up with relatively slow and clumsy removable media because they
need to back-up and transport work. With the Mirror Link, they can now
work directly on a removable because it's as fast as the drive inside
their PC. It effectively turns the digital 'file cabinet' into a real
working environment."

Initial pricing on a Mirror Link package (drive and docking station) ranges
from under $1,000 to $1,600, depending on size and configuration. The
Summatec system is available through PC specialist retailers and
distributors throughout North America. In addition, the company is
starting distribution in Latin America and Europe. "Europe is actually one
of the best markets for upgrade hard drives," observes Bryan Fifield. "In
computer hardware and software, it's also a very receptive market for
American technology and products. With a successful United States launch
now underway, we expect to be selling the Mirror Link in Europe this
fall."
