APPLICATIONS

PEOPLESOFT 5 FEATURES ADVANCED WORKFLOW, EIGHT NEW APPLICATIONS, AND
ENHANCED EASE OF USE

PLEASANTON, CA, September 11, 1995 -- PeopleSoft, Inc. (NASDAQ: PSFT) today
announced PeopleSoft 5, a major new release of the company's leading
client/server business software applications for accounting, materials
management, distribution, and human resource management. PeopleSoft 5
delivers a broad range of architectural, technology, and functional
enhancements designed to offer customers a complete business software
solution for the enterprise. Specifically, PeopleSoft 5 incorporates:

   Advanced workflow based on an open agent-based architecture.

   Expanded enterprise capability with eight new applications,
   extensive enhancements to existing applications, performance
   improvements,and more platform support.

   Enhanced ease of use with an enriched graphical user interface,
   Windows 95 and NT compatibility, process oriented menus, andnew
   administration tools.

I. Agent-Based Workflow

With PeopleSoft 5, the company has workflow-enabled its client/server
applications with: PeopleSoft Workflow, an open agent-based workflow
architecture; and the PeopleSoft Open Workflow Partners Program, which
delivers integrated third-party groupware solutions with PeopleSoft
applications. Using PeopleSoft Workflow, customers can streamline business
tasks, reducing paperwork and improving user productivity, as well as
facilitate reengineering efforts. PeopleSoft's approach to workflow offers
customers advantages in three areas: flexibility through multiple
implementation options, extensibility with the ability to modify and
create workflows, and openness through integration with best-of-breed
applications.

NEW WORKFLOW ARCHITECTURE

The PeopleSoft Workflow Architecture has four components:

PEOPLESOFT WORKFLOW DESIGNER TOOLSET is a development environment used to
create and modify workflows and business processes.

PEOPLESOFT WORKFLOW PROCESSOR is a run time environment to execute workflow
processes using Message Agents, Database Agents, Application Agents,
Worklists, and the Workflow Monitor. 

PEOPLESOFT APPLICATION WORKFLOW TEMPLATES are pre-designed templates
offered within PeopleSoft applications to automate common business
processes such as purchase request approvals, inventory item
approvals,asset warranty expirations, and credit limit exceptions.

PEOPLESOFT MESSAGE AGENT API is an application programming interface (API)
which integrates third-party solutions with PeopleSoft applications.

NEW PARTNERS IN OPEN WORKFLOW PROGRAM: ACTION, DELRINA, IBM, AND LOTUS

The Open Workflow Partners Program facilitates the integration of the best,
third-party workflow technologies with PeopleSoft applications. Today,
Action Technologies, Delrina Corp., IBM, and Lotus Development Corp.
become members of the Program. Previously announced members include:
Computer Communications Specialists, Inc., Edify Corporation, ESSENSE
Systems, JetForm Corporation, and TALX.

Specifically, Action Technologies will provide ActionWorkflow(TM), a robust
workflow system, to enable PeopleSoft customers to implement full-scale
workflow solutions within their applications. Delrina's FormFlow will
interface with PeopleSoft applications to enable users to access and route
information in a structured manner. IBM will enable customers to use IBM's
multi-media kiosks to access PeopleSoft applications. And, Lotus
Development Corp. will enable customers to use Lotus Notes to interact
seamlessly with PeopleSoft applications.

II. Enterprise Capabilities

PeopleSoft 5 enhancements include eight new applications as well as many
enhancements to existing applications, support for new platforms, and
performance improvements to meet the needs of customers who are
increasingly deploying PeopleSoft solutions enterprise-wide.

EIGHT NEW APPLICATIONS PeopleSoft 5 features eight new integrated
applications within the Financials, Distribution, and HRMS product lines.

New Financials applications are:

PEOPLESOFT BUDGETS: Scheduled for initial release, PeopleSoft Budgets
combines spreadsheets, workflow processing, and PeopleSoftreporting and
query tools to provide a robust budget preparation solution. 

PEOPLESOFT BILLING: Available for general release, PeopleSoft Billing
addresses both informational and operational business needs, streamlining
the billing process and providing easy customization of invoices.

PEOPLESOFT PROJECT COSTING: Available for general release, PeopleSoft
Project Costing offers the maximum control over project management costs
and efficient access to project information.

New Distribution applications are:

PEOPLESOFT ORDER MANAGEMENT: Scheduled for initial release, PeopleSoft
Order Management is designed to support finished goods-based supply chain
operations. When combined with other PeopleSoft Distribution applications
and soon to be delivered PeopleSoft Manufacturing applications, this
application will provide superior visibility and control over the entire
supply chain network. 

PEOPLESOFT DRP (DISTRIBUTION REQUIREMENTS PLANNING): Also scheduled for
initial release, PeopleSoft DRP features realtime aggregate planning and
scheduling, bills of distribution, product availability analysis,
user-defined constraint parameters that support dynamic business
environments, and "what if" modeling and simulation. PeopleSoft DRP is
based on real-time planning, scheduling, and optimization technology from
Red Pepper Software Company.

PEOPLESOFT INVENTORY: Available for general release, PeopleSoft Inventory
provides the ability to efficiently store and issue stock in response to
changing demands, accurately track the movement of stock on a realtime
basis, and automatically replenish stock.

New HRMS applications are:

PEOPLESOFT PENSION ADMINISTRATION: Scheduled for initial release,
PeopleSoft Pension Administration will be fully integrated with the HRMS
application and offers a comprehensive defined benefit administration
product addressing qualified and non-qualified plans, contributory and
non-contributory plans, traditional defined benefit plans, and cash
balance plans. It also provides employee data storage and tracking,
pension calculations, and retiree administration.

PEOPLESOFT TIME AND LABOR: Also scheduled for initial release, PeopleSoft
Time and Labor offers a single, consistent, and auditable source of time
information to support the time-related needs of a variety of business
functions, ranging from payroll, financial/cost accounting, and project
management, to benefits administration and organizational administration.
PeopleSoft Time and Labor is a comprehensive, flexible, parameter-driven
solution to meet the unique needs of a wide range of businesses.

NEW PLATFORMS

PeopleSoft 5 expands platform options for enterprise customers by offering
support for the IBM DB2 relational database for AIX, with support for
other UNIX operating platforms to follow. PeopleSoft applications continue
to support leading relational databases on a wide range of mainframe,
midrange, and LAN platforms including Informix, DB2/MVS, Oracle, and
SQLBase.

PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENTS

PeopleSoft 5 incorporates features delivering higher performance for data
intensive and on-line processing to meet the performance requirements of
enterprise customers.

Improved Volume Processing is delivered in three ways:

Extended Set Processing techniques more fully optimize relational database
capabilities. Enhanced Process Scheduler now distributes data intensive
processing across the enterprise. The Process Scheduler enables users to
run processes instantly or to schedule them to run once or on a recurring
basis. Users can also schedule multiprocess jobs and track jobs, as well
as run processes locally on a client workstation or remotely on a server.
New Mass Change capability performs global updates and high-volume
business transactions such as updating data for multiple employees,
without accessing each one on-line.

Up to 40% On-line Processing Improvements delivered through: Enhanced
Application Distributor now caches frequently used tables on the client,
thus reducing the number of SQL calls. A new SQL Column Optimizer reduces
the number of columns fetched for a display to reduce network traffic.

III. Enhanced Ease of Use

To increase user productivity, PeopleSoft 5 delivers a variety of
enhancements in the areas of ease-of-use and system administration. These
include:

Enriched Graphical User Interface (GUI) for windows-based applications
permitting users to define styles, fonts, and colors as well as offering
new icons and toolbars. It also incorporates Windows 95 features such as
the start menus and cascading menus. Windows 95 and Windows NT
compatibility for client workstations. New Process Oriented Menus have
been organized around business processes to improve user interaction.
Enhanced Application Upgrader makes upgrading to new releases easier,
automates the upgrade process, and maintains previous customization
efforts.

 New Data Mover is a new, windows-based utility that provides a flexible,
effective, and simple method for archiving data, as well as moving data
and PeopleTools objects from one database to another.

 New PeopleBooks electronic documentation available on CD-ROM with built-in
search engine.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

Pricing for all PeopleSoft applications starts at approximately $100,000
per application module and will vary depending on size of organization,
number of sites and users, and application modules licensed. PeopleSoft 5
is expected to ship in early fourth quarter 1995. PeopleSoft Budgets and
Order Management are expected to ship in general release in the first half
of 1996. DRP, Pension Administration, and Time and Labor are expected to
ship in general release in the second half of 1996.
