NEW MEDIA'S KNOWLEDGE BANK PROVIDES IMMEDIATE ACCESS TO SUPPORT TOOLS FOR
PORTABLE COMPUTER USERS

Information Disk Assists Users and Sniffs Out Problems; Packaged With All
New Media PC Cards

IRVINE, Calif., September 18, 1995 -- New Media, a leading developer and
manufacturer of portable computing solutions, today furthered its
commitment to portable computing ease-of-use with the introduction of the
Knowledge Bank, an information and troubleshooting disk packaged with the
company's full line of PC Cards.

The Knowledge Bank contains problem/solution sets for troubleshooting,
product technical information, example config.sys and autoexec.bat files
and other useful hints. Additionally, it includes a diagnostic utility
program called Sniffer which examines a user's machine to assist in card
configuration and troubleshooting. The Knowledge Bank joins the company's
suite of ease-of-use tools, all designed to make the installation and use
of New Media's PC Cards the easiest in the industry.

As the portable computing market expands at a rate of over 65 percent per
year, more and more first time users are entering the market. Almost 60
percent of laptops purchased today are being purchased by first-time
computer buyers.

"Many of our users have never even been exposed to DOS or Windows. Most
users know little more than to load the diskettes provided with our
products and hope for the best. Our Auto-Install software takes the guess
work out of getting our customers up and running on the first try. Whether
it's related to our cards or some other vendor's peripheral, we want our
customers to get our PC Cards up and running as quickly and easily as
possible," said Carl Perkins, New Media president. "We created the
Knowledge Bank to support any question our customers may face ranging from
problem and solution sets for all of our products to technical and sales
support phone numbers for many other peripheral vendors on the market. The
other vendors' numbers are included in the event that the problem is
associated with a peripheral used with our card. The Knowledge Bank even
contains a glossary of terms. New Media is dedicated to providing the best
customer service and support in the industry."

"Our recent Auto-Install announcement was directed toward solving
compatibility problems," explained Perkins. "Now we have added the
Knowledge Bank which is directed at providing access to troubleshooting
answers to users on the move, easily and quickly."

New Media set the ease-of-use standard in PC Card software when it
introduced the industry's first true PCMCIA plug-and-play client drivers
to allow users to freely insert, remove and/or insert PC Cards into their
mobile PCs without the need to re-configure, re-boot or awaken their
systems. Taking the ease-of-use concept one step further, New Media
recently released Auto-Install software as a standard accompaniment to its
full line of PC Cards. AutoInstall makes the company's cards the easiest
PC Cards to install in the industry.

Knowledge Bank Offers Instant Access to Hundreds of Answers

Users simply insert the single 3.5-inch Knowledge Bank floppy disk to
access a vast amount of technical support, sales, marketing and company
information.

The Technical Support section includes information such as a list of driver
command options for each New Media product; sample configurations with
various industry laptops; information on using New Media's BBS and
problem/solution sets for troubleshooting.

For example, a user can look up "Configuring the microphone to record with
the .WAVjammer" and the Knowledge Bank will provide several symptoms, such
as "Microphone does not record or accept any input." It will then give the
problem: "The MIC volume level is set too low" and several solutions, such
as: "Use the volume control in the Windows Sound System group to adjust
the microphone volume" and step-by-step instructions on how to make the
adjustment.

For information on each of New Media's products, simply click on the Sales
icon. A picture of each product will be displayed along with its features
and benefits, technical specifications and performance information. The
Knowledge Bank also provides helpful information such as a glossary of
industry terms and the technical support and sales phone numbers of more
than 100 high technology companies. Customers can also receive additional
information on New Media's Fax-On-Demand and BBS support tools.
Documentation on New Media's Fax-On-Demand includes spec sheets, product
descriptions and requests, press releases, company and PCMCIA overviews,
troubleshooting tips and distributor information.

For ease-of-use, the Knowledge Bank also features a Search option that
allows users to type in any word or group of words to search for related
information. Users can choose from one or all of the information category
options including sales, technical support, fax-on-demand and glossary of
terms.

Unique Sniffer Program Helps Users Remotely Diagnose Their New Media PC
Cards

"When a card fails to configure in the field, it is often very difficult to
diagnose the problem remotely. Though all of our products ship with remote
diagnostic software to test the integrity of the card, many times the
failure is related to system conflicts or other manufacturer's products or
software present. To remotely get a "picture" of our customers laptop
environment, we developed Sniffer." said Perkins. "When you run Sniffer it
takes a "snap shot" of all of the system parameters and writes them to a
file. Our customers can then fax in a copy of the Sniffer output file and
our technical support team can easily diagnose the problem remotely."

When the Knowledge Bank is installed under Windows it creates a Program
Group which includes the Knowledge Bank, Sniffer, and a help file on using
Sniffer. All the user has to do is double-click the Sniffer icon and
follow the instructions. Sniffer first asks the users name, company,
telephone, fax number, e-mail address, what version of Windows the user is
running and the cards being used and the problem. Sniffer then determines
the type and version of Card and Socket Services, and writes this and all
pertinent information from the autoexec.bat, config.sys, system.ini, and
win.ini files to a file called Sniffer.txt. Sniffer then loads the file in
the notepad and displays the notepad in the Knowledge Bank group. The user
can then simply print the file and fax it in to New Media's technical
support team who will analyze the problem and suggest a solution within
one business day.

Availability

Knowledge Bank is included for free with all New Media retail product
packages including its Ethernet LAN adapters, SCSI l l adapter cards,
sound cards, multimedia sound/SCSI combo cards, portable hard drives, fax
modems, and mass storage and memory products.

Users can download new versions to the Knowledge Bank 24 hours a day 7 days
a week via New Media's BBS. "As our technical support department fields
calls from users they update Knowledge Bank, providing real-time updates
to our users in the field," explained Perkins.
