Newer Technology delivers PC Card products for new PowerBook 5300 and 2300
computers

WICHITA, Kan.--09/13/95--Newer Technology's PC Card products, (formerly
PCMCIA) unveiled at MacWorld Expo '95 in August, are compatible with the
new PowerBook 5300 and PowerBook Duo 2300 computers. The PC Card products
from Newer Technology bring popular PC Card technology to PowerBook users
with 2, 5, 10, 20, 30 and 40 MB Flash RAM memory cards, 28.8 and 14.4 PC
Card Fax/Modems and a 10BaseT Ethernet card for Ethernet connectivity.
Newer Technology is one of the first to provide PC Card access to
PowerBook users, and the company offers the most complete line of PC Card
products for PowerBooks in the industry.

The PC Cards from Newer Technology fit directly into the PC Card drive
--standard in the new PowerBook 5300s and optional on all PowerBook 500
computers. Newer Technology cards are Type II PC cards that support Apple
Computer software-based auto-ejecting PC Card standards and comply with
PCMCIA PC Card standards. Built-in support allows "hot swapping"-removing
and inserting the cards without turning off the computer.

All PowerBook Duo users can take advantage of PC Card solutions from Newer
Technology through the use of the company's PC Card MicroDock and PC Card
Drive. The PC Card MicroDock plugs into the back of any Duo providing the
link to the PC Card Drive. The PC Card MicroDock is small and light enough
to be easily transportable, as are all Newer Technology MicroDocks, and
provides an ADB port for a full-size keyboard, mouse and other ADB
devices. The PC Card Drive plugs into the PC Card MicroDock from Newer
Technology, making PC Card technology possible for all Duo users. It is
compatible with Type II and Type III cards and will accept two Type II
cards at once, or one Type III card.

Newer Technology offers a line of Flash RAM memory cards, including 2, 5,
10, 20, 30 and 40MB sizes. The cards bring data portability and security
to PowerBook users with read, write, erase and storage capabilities. The
Type II memory cards are nonvolatile memory cards, retaining rather than
losing the data stored memory when the computer is shut off. And unlike
some Flash RAM cards with slow write times, Flash RAM cards from Newer
Technology allow data to be written at rates similar to the speed of hard
drives and be read at substantially faster rates. The cards automatically
mount on the desktop and require no batteries. Flash RAM cards are ideal
for PowerBook users concerned with file security. For instance,
spreadsheet files can be saved apart from a hard drive and easily
transported for use elsewhere.

Also available are two PC Card Fax/Modems: a card supporting 28.8kbit per
sec. data transfer/14.4kbit per sec. fax and featuring V.34 protocol
standards and a card supporting 14.4kbit per sec. data transfer/14.4kbit
per sec. fax and featuring V.32 protocol standards. Both versions come
with built-in "digital line protection" that prevents damage to your modem
from digital PBX systems commonly found in offices and hotels and
eliminates the need for a bulky, expensive external protectors. The cards
also provide direct cellular connections without requiring any expensive
external pods. They support the Class 1 and Class 2 fax protocols, feature
a Hayes AT command set and include advanced MNP 10EC protocol enabling
faster, more reliable cellular transmission. The cards work with the
Motorola MicroTAC family of cellular phones with a compatibility cable kit
sold separately. Fax/modem cards from Newer contain Flash ROM which makes
it easy to accept future firmware updates.

The EtherTech no PC Card from Newer Technology connects PowerBook users to
any 10BaseT, IEEE 802.3 network and is also compatible with PCMCIA 2.0 and
JEIDA 4.1 standards. The card supports up to the Ethernet speed limit of
10Mb/sec. transfer rate. A 10-foot, RJ-45 cable comes standard. LED
indicators provide constant status information. The card is FCC Class B
approved.

For 11 years Newer Technology has provided Macintosh users with performance
products and memory upgrades designed and engineered with the high-est
quality standards. For additional information contact Newer Technology,
