NetWorld+Interop Atlanta 94 Enjoys Incredible Market Demand as Second
Domestic Event Mirrors Size and Significance of First

OVER 57,000 ATTEND THE SUMMIT FOR NETWORKING PROFESSIONALS TO EXPERIENCE
THE PROMISE AND PROGRESS OF NEXT GENERATION LAN AND WAN TECHNOLOGIES

ATLANTA, GA., (SEPTEMBER 19, 1994) - Held at the Georgia World Congress
Center, NetWorld+Interop was the site for hundreds of industry
announcements by more than 530 leading computing and networking vendors,
the first show floor with an interactive educational center and an
educational program of conferences, tutorials and workshops attended by
over 4,000 domestic and international delegates. The three-day exposition,
attended by more than 57,000 people, showcased advance technology topics
including ATM, high-speed networking, middleware, network applications and
Internet issues.

Forums included the Fast Ethernet Alliance, the Switched Multimegabit Data
Service (SMDS) Interest Group, MOMA (Message-Oriented Middleware), the ATM
Forum and the 100VG-AnyLAN Forum. Some of most prevalent topics were ATM,
OSI, wireless communication, groupware, network management platforms and
applications, and remote connectivity, specifically the future of routing
and switching.

The graduate level educational conference program included seven tracks on
Internetworking, the Internet, Media and Transport, Client- Server
Platforms, Network Applications and Services, and NetWare, in addition to
more than 27 tutorials and over 14 workshops. For the first time, the IBM
OS/2 Technical Update Conference was held concurrently with
NetWorld+Interop.

This was the second domestic occurence of the event this year, reinforcing
the need for multiple educational events of this caliber. The successful
combination of exhibitors, highly qualified attendees and education- based
forums in the classroom and on the show floor at NetWorld+Interop 94
Atlanta resulted in a near sell-out of the 1995 Atlanta event by the end
of this year's exhibition.

"Clearly, the fast paced growth in the networking market requires this
community to discuss and learn about emerging technologies, partnerships
and standards at least twice a year," says Dan Lynch, chairman and founder
of Interop.

Keynotes addresses dealt with timely industry issues. Ellen Hancock, IBM
senior vice president and group executive, used the NetWorld+Interop
Summit as a platform from which to stress the importance of and define
IBM's strategic commitment to the evolving Information Highway. Drew
Major, Novell chief scientist and systems architect, addressed the shift
to a global networking approach. Paul J. Severino, president, CEO and
founder of Wellfleet Communications Inc. focused on integrating ATM into
enterprise internetworks.

N+I ONLINE! AND THE VIRTUAL TRADE SHOW ARCHITECTURE ZD Expos announced the
Virtual Trade Show Architecture, a foundation for the first on-line,
interactive, real-time trade show for the networking marketplace. The
first product implementation is N+I Online! in March 1995, which will
provide attendees access to a wealth of information before, during and
after NetWorld+Interop Las Vegas. N+I Online! will feature content similar
to the physical trade show, including exhibitor booths and special
sessions, and utilizing Virtual Places technology by Ubique, Ltd., which
allows multiple attendees to be co-present in the same online location. A
pilot project on the InteropNet in Atlanta included exhibitor home pages
on a World Wide Web listing. The success of this project was confirmed by
more than 6,500 individual accesses to the ZD Expos home page during
NetWorld+Interop.

INTEROPNET

The InteropNet demonstrated real-world networking solutions and
interoperability by connecting 500 exhibitors to each other, the global
Internet, and to many Atlanta hotels. The network was more complex than
ever before, mirroring the networking environments found in businesses and
universities today. This network ran five protocols - TCP/IP, IPX,
SNA/LLC2, OSI and AppleTalk - over four media - Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI
and ATM.

At Application Clusters positioned throughout the convention center,
attendees gained hands-on experience using the InteropNet in one of the
largest event-based email systems ever. The event- oriented messaging hub,
a new service from the Novell GroupWare Division, allowed all attendees to
access a personal mailbox for worldwide communication, utilize the latest
telephony technology and access messages from standard telephones.

The Industry Spotlight program focused upon the serious industry issues of
software piracy and the Clipper Chip controversy, and technology issues
such as OSIone, Fibre Channel, and wireless technology.

FIRST INTERACTIVE EDUCATIONAL CENTER ON SHOW FLOOR

The center offered attendees the following networking experience right at
the show:

Solutions Showcase Demonstrations:

Attendees saw technology demonstrations like the Fast Ethernet Alliance, a
100VG-AnyLan Forum and a Full Duplex Ethernet demonstration.

Reseller Integration Lab:

Value added resellers and integrators participated in live demonstrations
of document imaging in a client/server environment highlighting the power
of Unix.

Configuration Clinic:

Industry experts provided guidance to beginners and experienced network
users to unlock the mysteries of designing and building a network from
scratch.

NPA Labs:

Provided a platform for the transfer of technical information from the
vendors to network computing professionals (formerly CNEPA Labs).

TSANet:

This on-site venue for network troubleshooting helped attendees solve
perplexing multivendor networking problems.

Start-Up City was a popular area in the exposition dedicated to emerging
companies with ground-breaking technologies and innovative products.

IBM CONFERENCE RUNS CONCURRENTLY

The IBM OS/2 Technical Update Conference ran concurrently with
NetWorld+Interop. With more than 250 interactive technical sessions, this
conference provided attendees the latest on programming techniques, OS/2,
networking, object technology, human-centric interfaces and included
separate keynotes, sessions, certification testing, exhibits, panels and
tutorials.
