Insignia Solutions Announces NTrigue, New Windows Application Server
Software

New Product to Deliver Windows 95, Windows 3.1 and Windows NT Applications
to All Enterprise Desktops

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA SEPTEMBER 19, 1995 -- Insignia Solutions today announced
NTrigue, a new high-performance software solution that delivers Windows
95, Windows 3.1 and Windows NT applications to all X terminals and other X
Windows-capable desktops, including UNIX workstations, Macintosh computers
and PCs. NTrigue solves the growing market demand for running both new and
old Windows applications from any X Windows-capable desktop. It also
allows enterprise organizations to save money by substantially reducing
their ongoing cost of ownership of personal computing. Instead of
duplicating applications, data and hardware on every desktop, NTrigue
enables easily-managed servers to provide applications to lower cost
desktops. As the needs of the organization grow, only the servers need to
be upgraded; and upgrading in one place benefits everyone simultaneously.

Open systems-based solution

NTrigue allows multiple users to access a Windows NT server simultaneously
without having to upgrade their desktops or purchase a separate PC. Unlike
alternative Windows access products which use proprietary technology or
are limited to older applications, NTrigue is the first completely open
systems-based solution to support both 32-bit Windows 95 and 16-bit
Windows applications. It is optimized specifically for LANs to provide up
to Pentium-class graphics performance for even the most demanding
applications.

Windows NT server access for every desktop

NTrigue is a client/server software package based on Windows NT. NTrigue
includes technology from several companies, including Microsoft, Citrix
Systems Inc., Network Computing Devices, Inc. and Insignia Solutions.

NTrigue displays the Windows NT program manager, including Windows 95,
Windows 3.1 and Windows NT applications, over the network to any type of X
Windows-capable desktop. Using the industry-standard open X Window System,
it gives users Pentium-class graphics performance and cut-and-paste
between Windows and UNIX applications. NTrigue offers a full spectrum of
color support, ranging from monochrome to 16 million colors, to support
any display. Furthermore, it enables Windows 95 and Windows NT
applications to be used from even low-powered PCs via X, without other
software or hardware upgrades.

"Our customers have been asking for a solution that provides access to a
Windows NT server," said Robert P. Lee, Insignia Solutions' president and
CEO. "NTrigue does this, providing access to Windows 95, Windows 3.1 and
NT applications not only from X terminals, but from all X Windows-capable
desktops on the enterprise network. This is great news for companies who
have disparate desktops that need to share common applications."

"We are very pleased with the results of our joint-development agreement
with Insignia," said Doug Klein, vice president and general manager of the
Systems Division of Network Computing Devices. "By combining NCD's
expertise in networking, X, and graphics with Insignia's expertise in
delivering Windows access solutions to UNIX environments, NTrigue brings
Microsoft applications into the corporate computing environment with all
of the benefits of X- based client server computing. Now corporate users
can leverage Windows 95, Windows 3.1, and NT applications while MIS
departments can continue to reduce overall system costs with networked
servers."

"Windows application access solutions using open standards such as the X
protocol will help propel X terminals into new markets," said Dave
Chornaby, general manager of HP's X Terminal Division. "Insignia's NTrigue
solution promises to complement existing open UNIX-based solutions."

Performance

NTrigue is scalable and optimized for LANs. Through its use of the X Window
System, NTrigue delivers virtually all the power of the application server
to the users' desktops, and requires no special software on the desktop.
Unlike alternative products, NTrigue offloads graphics processing from the
Windows NT server and takes advantage of the high level graphics
operations in X Windows, resulting in native graphics performance over the
network. This distributed computing model follows the 3-tier client/server
architecture prevalent in most enterprises.

In addition, NTrigue does not require memory upgrades in the X terminal or
workstation, and it minimizes extra memory requirements on the Windows NT
Server for graphics. Pricing and Availability

NTrigue will be available in Q4, 1995. It will be available directly from
Insignia Solutions, and will be distributed by Network Computing Devices
and other distributors. Pricing will be announced when the product ships.
