HUMMINGBIRD ANNOUNCES EXCEED 5 FOR WINDOWS

Exceed 5 For Windows Internetworking Software Suite Integrates Best of
Breed PC X server, TCP/IP, and NFS Applications For PC to Internetwork
Connectivity

North York, Ontario, September 19, 1995 --Hummingbird Communications Ltd.
(TSE: "HUM"; Nasdaq: "HUMCF") the technology and market leader in the
worldwide PC to UNIX integration software industry, today announces the
Exceed 5 for Windows PC internetworking software suite. Exceed 5 for
Windows is a complete internetworking desktop solution seamlessly
integrating superior PC X server, TCP/IP, and NFS technologies, enabling
PC users to access enterprise-wide information systems and resources.

Exceed 5 for Windows provides PC users with a high performance and easy to
use interface to corporate internetworks, seamlessly integrating a
comprehensive suite of applications, including: 32-bit Exceed, the
industry leading X11R6 PC X server with new support for XIE, the X Image
Extension, and CDE, the Common Desktop Environment; high speed remote
access to X applications via the enhanced Exceed/Xpress; a choice of VxD
TCP/IP stacks, including the new Hummingbird TCP/IP; Hummingbird's high
performance 32-bit NFS client software; support for TN3270, enabling IBM
mainframe access; and many other network applications such as
Hummingbird's electronic mail and USENET news reader.

Stated Fred Sorkin, Chairman, President, and CEO of Hummingbird, "The rapid
growth of organizational internetworks has created strong demand for
highly functional and performance oriented PC connectivity products built
around TCP/IP. Exceed 5 for Windows includes PC X server, TCP/IP, and NFS
client applications, enabling easy PC desktop to internetwork connectivity
within the familiar Windows interface."

With Exceed 5 for Windows, users may choose from two integrated TCP/IP
stacks, Hummingbird TCP/IP for Windows and Microsoft TCP/IP-32. Both of
these stacks are based on 32-bit Virtual Device Driver (VxD) technology,
allowing for maximized performance with minimal impact on conventional
memory. For large scale TCP/IP networks that need to minimize costs and
administrative burdens, support is Provided for DHCP, the Dynamic Host
Configuration Protocol. In addition, Hummingbird TCP/IP includes PPP and
SLIP functionality and supports ODI, NDIS 2.0, NDIS 3.0, and Packet
Drivers.

Hummingbird's new 32-bit NFS client application included with Exceed 5 for
Windows presents users with high performance network file and printer
sharing capabilities. With Exceed 5, users may transparently access and
share resources across a range of heterogeneous computer environments
directly from their PC desktops, with remote files appearing as if they
reside locally on the PC. Exceed 5's integrated NFS supports both
Hummingbird TCP/IP and Microsoft TCP/IP-32.

The administrative capabilities of Exceed 5 for Windows are superior to
many competitive products and significantly reduce the burden of network
administration. Exceed 5 for Windows can be centrally installed and
administered from single or multiple network servers, and includes Setup
configuration (Sconfig) and Remote configuration (Rconfig) facilities that
enable administrators to remotely install, configure, update, and even
customize the Exceed 5 personal computer desktop.

New and Enhanced Exceed 5 for Windows Features Include:

* Performance enhanced 32-bit X11R6 PC X server with full support
  for the XIE image extension
* Support for CDE (Common Desktop Environment, the initiative by
various UNIX vendors to provide the same look and feel across
UNIX platforms), by integrating TriTeal's Enterprise Desktop (TED)
standard, providing Exceed users with the capability to access
CDE enabled hosts in both single and multiple window modes
* Performance enhanced Exceed/Xpress for remote access to UNIX/X
applications, now enables remote PC users to harness modem hardware
compression and supports IP over serial line connectivity, via
  PPP and SLIP
* Hummingbird's new integrated VxD TCP/IP supports DHCP and includes:
Ping, TraceRoute, Finger, Exports, RPC-Info, Arp, Whois, Monitor,
and the Inet daemon (Inetd) server suite (includes FTPd, Fingerd,
  LPD, Xstartd)
* Hummingbird's new high performance 32-bit NFS client provides
networkfile and print services over either Hummingbird TCP/IP or
  MicrosoftTCP/IP-32
* New TN3270 terminal emulator enables PC to mainframe access
supporting IND$FILE file transfer and HLLAPI programming using
  Exceed Basic
* Hummingbird's EMail application with SMTP, POP2, POP3, and MIME
  support
* Hummingbird's Internet News reader provides access to USENET
  newsgroups
