STOP THE OUTBREAK OF 'QWIRKS' BEFORE THEY TAKE OVER IN SPECTRUM HOLOBYTE'S
HIGHLY ADDICTIVE PUZZLE GAME, QWIRKS

Windows CD-ROM In Stores Now

ALAMEDA, CA, Sept 6, 1995 -- Spectrum HoloByte, Inc. (NASDAQ: SBYT), a
leader in the puzzle category of interactive entertainment software for
personal computers, is pleased to announce Qwirks, the newest title in the
company's line of fast action puzzle games endorsed by Alexey Pajitnov,
creator of Tetris.. The Windows version is in stores now and the Macintosh
version will follow in October. The game was developed by Big Bang
Software of Japan.

An invasion of Qwirks, highly charged particles from intergalactic space,
will cause players no end of trouble in this nonstop action game. Players
must go up against a variety of opponents. Each of these computer
opponents has its own strategy and style of play. Each is progressively
more difficult to defeat. The goal for a player is to work his or her way
through the ranks of all 13 mutated enemies to get rid of all the Qwirks.

The game play features pairs of multicolored Qwirks falling from the top of
the screen into the play field. Although the pair falls automatically,
players can manipulate its path left and right, rotate its position, and
speed up its rate of descent. When four Qwirks of the same color connect
horizontally or vertically, they explode and are eliminated from the
field, yielding points. As the player removes Qwirks from his field, he
sends extra Qwirks to his opponent, defeating him if the opponent's
playing field fills to the top.

The computer opponents can be replaced by another gamer in the two-player
competitive challenge. A single-player, practice mode is also included for
players who prefer to play the game just for high score or need to polish
their skills for later competitive battles. Additionally, an innovative
puzzle mode is included that challenges the player to align the Qwirks in
such a way on the playing filed that they cascade off in one move.

Windows and Macintosh versions of Qwirks feature 256-color graphics, full
music and sound support.

Alexey Pajitnov, creator of the world-famous Tetris, is lending his
endorsement to and is helping in the design of a full line of action
puzzle games from Spectrum HoloByte. The line includes the company's
existing Tetris games, as well as new and increasingly exciting and
super-challenging puzzle products.

Since its debut in 1988, Tetris has been a perennial best-seller, and the
famous game of falling blocks continues its phenomenal popularity to this
day. Included in the Spectrum HoloByte puzzle line are products for
personal computers and videogame systems. For personal computers, the line
features Tetris (IBM, Macintosh), Welltris (IBM, Macintosh), Faces_ Tris
III (IBM, Macintosh), Wordtris (IBM, Mac), Super Tetris (IBM, Windows,
