Digi LANAserver Provides High-Speed, Multi-Protocol Remote Access Solution
For Telecommutors, Mobile Workers

Standalone Product Extends Digi International's Remote Access Line

August 28, 1995 -- Minneapolis, Minn. -- Digi International Inc. today
announced the LANAserver, a complete end-to-end remote access solution,
that provides remote users with fast dial-in access to their corporate
Ethernet networks with the same level of functionality as when locally
connected. This server-based solution complements Digi's extensive
PC-based remote access product family.

The LANAserver features a 32-bit RISC processor that allows it to maintain
data transmission rates of 230 Kbps, regardless of the number of ports on
the system. The fast transmission speeds reduce connection time and
decrease phone line charges. The new Digi product includes a server,
client software, and a Windows-based manager, a complete solution for
telecommuters and business travelers who need high-speed protocol
transparent connections to the office LAN (Local Area Network) from home
or from the road.

"Digi is the market leader in remote access board ports shipped and the
LANAserver strengthens our position as a complete solutions provider
offering systems as well as PC-based remote access solutions for all of
the major operating systems in the industry, said Joseph A. Diodati, Digi
International vice president of marketing. "The remote access market,
which according to International Data Corp. is expected to grow more than
$600 million by 1997, offers a significant growth opportunity for Digi,
and the LANAserver is an important step in capturing an even greater share
of this market."

In addition to its performance advantages, the LANAserver supports a broad
range of network operating systems including Novell NetWare, Microsoft
Windows for Workgroups and Windows NT, Banyan Vines, Digital Equipment's
DECnet, and others.

The LANAserver, which resides directly on the host network, is available
with slots for PCMCIA modems or high speed RS-232 ports. These WAN (Wide
Area Networks) ports can be connected to either modems or ISDN (Integrated
Services Digital Network) terminal adapters. The LANAserver is also rack
mountable to support large port requirements.

"This announcment signals Digi International's move to broaden the
solutions it offers in the rapidly growing remote access marketplace, "
said Lee Doyle, International Data Corporation (IDC) vice president for
LAN Internetworking. "With the addition of this new line of remote access
servers, Digi is well positioned to take advantage of increasing
opportunities to provide cost-effective, high-performance support for
mobile and at home workers."

Information Access Center, Medford, Mass., an information provider to
clients throughout the United States, selected the LANAserver to remotely
manage and maintain data on Novell and Windows NT servers. "After
reviewing several products, we selected the LANAserver because of its ease
of use and multi-protocol capability," said James M. Peterson, Information
Access Center manager. "The product worked right out of the box and did
what it's supposed to do. I regularly recommend this product to our
clients who need remote access servers."

The Digi LANAserver is currently available with 2, 4 or 8 serial ports and
with 4 PCMCIA slots and 2 serial ports or 8 PCMCIA slots and 2 serial
ports. It has a U.S. list price of $1,695 to $3,895, depending on the
configuration.

The LANAserver was developed by LAN Access Corporation, Torrance, Calif.,
which Digi announced its intent to acquire in May. The acquisition is
expected to be completeed by the end of september.
