DIAMOND INTRODUCES ITS FIRST EIGHT-SPEED MULTIMEDIA KIT, THE DIAMOND ULTRA
KIT 8000

Features Windows 95 Plug-and-Play WaveTable Sound Card with 3D Sound
Support

SAN JOSE, Calif., September 8, 1995 -- Diamond Multimedia Systems, Inc.
(NASDAQ: DIMD) has announced its high-performance eight-speed multimedia
kit, the Ultra Kit 8000. Diamond reinforces its position as the industry
technology leader by integrating the latest CD-ROM drive technology
available today into its multimedia kit product line. In addition to the
fast 8X CD-ROM drive, this kit combines five popular entertainment and
reference titles, a Windows 95 plug- and-play Wavetable Diamond sound card
that supports 3D sound, and deluxe stereo speakers. The Ultra Kit 8000 has
an estimated retail price of $549 and is available this month through
distributors, computer retailers and mass merchants.

"The Ultra Kit 8000 provides a substantial boost in system performance at a
price point that competes with various six-speed solutions on the market.
Users can take advantage of the heightened efficiency to meet the
requirements of today's demanding multimedia applications, " said Paul
Nahi, director of product marketing for Diamond Multimedia. "Bundled with
top-selling entertainment titles, this kit appeals to game-playing
enthusiasts."

High-Performance Hardware

The Ultra Kit 8000 includes high-performance hardware that is fully MPC2
and MPC3 compliant. Each kit includes a fast eight-speed internal IDE
CD-ROM drive that transfers data at 1,200 KB/second with an access time of
230 ms and a buffer size of 256 KB. The 8X drive is both Photo CD- and
Multisession XA-compatible. Also included is a 16- bit, 1MB Wavetable
Diamond jumperless sound card that is Windows 95 compatible and
plug-and-play ready. The Diamond sound card features 32 Wavetable voices
and 3D sound to enhance the quality of CD-ROM applications and CD-audio
tracks. The high-quality audio is transmitted through a pair of powered
stereo speakers from Yamaha.

Using the Yamaha OPL-3 for 20 voice FM synthesis, the Diamond sound card
works with all Sound Blaster compatible games, and has Sound Blaster ADPCM
supported in hardware. It has an enhanced IDE CD-ROM interface (ATAPI
support), and the audio interface supports Sony, Mitsumi and Panasonic
connectors. It also has MIDI and joystick ports as well as stereo line out
and stereo line in. The six additional software utilities provide sound
recording, editing and playback capabilities.

Popular Software Titles

The Ultra Kit 8000 bundles five best-selling entertainment and reference
titles to take advantage of the accelerated data transmission rate of the
8X CD-ROM drive included in the kit. Titles include Myst, Magic Carpet,
Rebel Assault, SimCity 2000, and Compton's Encyclopedia 1996 edition. This
bundled software has an estimated retail value of more than $200.

Easy Installation Tools

The plug-and-play aspect of the Ultra Kit 8000 simplifies the installation
and operation process. As with all of Diamond's multimedia kits, an
award-winning comprehensive installation and user guide, instructional VHS
video tape, and automatic setup/system configuration software are
included. Diamond offers technical assistance six days per week by
