DIGITAL BREAKS NETWORK MANAGEMENT COST BARRIERS, ADDS TEAM COLLABORATION TO
THE INTERNET

NetWorld + Interop, ATLANTA -- September 25, 1995 -- Digital Equipment
Corporation today announced at NetWorld + Interop 95 Atlanta five new
software products that simplify and lower the cost of network access,
collaboration and management.

Digital's new network management products for Windows NT -- POLYCENTER
Manager on NetView and ManageWORKS -- offer important ease of use
enhancements and a degree of price/performance unmatched in the industry.
The Workgroup Web products announced today give Internet users
"out-of-the-box" team collaboration capabilities. The latest release of
the PATHWORKS PC LAN integration software meets the demands of 21st
century computing for transparent access, sharing and administration of
information worldwide.

POLYCENTER Manager on NetView for Windows NT

With the introduction of POLYCENTER Manager on NetView for Windows NT,
Digital slashes the cost of installing an enterprise management solution
by two-thirds, and opens a clear path for network managers employing
Windows-based tools to easily handle the increasing management
requirements of rapidly-growing networks.

POLYCENTER Manager on NetView for Windows NT V3.0 is a port of the IBM AIX-
and Digital UNIX-based NetView product. Combining the award-winning
NetView Motif graphical user interface with an implementation of the
Windows 95 user interface style, POLYCENTER Manager on NetView creates a
more intuitive interface which significantly reduces training costs. Some
of the Windows 95 features included with POLYCENTER Manager on NetView for
Windows NT are wizards, property sheets, movable tool pallets and
stackable map windows. In addition, its tight bi-directional integration
with Microsoft's System Management Server and POLYCENTER AssetWORKS
creates what industry analyst Larry Abbott, senior editor of "Managing
Distributed Systems" from Faulkner Information Services calls a "...killer
network/system management suite on NT."

POLYCENTER Manager on NetView for Windows NT, available on Sept. 28, is
priced at $6,995 and runs on a minimum configuration of an Intel 80486
system with 24 MB memory and 100 MB hard disk. A version for Digital's
Alpha technology will be available by the end of 1995, providing an even
more powerful upgrade path for network managers.

Digital also announced that over 40 management application vendors have
committed to support POLYCENTER NetView on Windows NT. Applications
available today include StoneyBrook's RouterManager Autobahn, a management
solution for multivendor WAN backbone routers. Digital is also developing
several other applications for Windows NT, including POLYCENTER DECnet
Manager, for the Digital network environment, and ManageWORKS Workgroup
Administrator, which integrates with POLYCENTER Manager on NetView to
provide comprehensive multi-NOS management.

Workgroup Web and Workgroup Web Forum

With the announcement of the Workgroup Web and Workgroup Web Forum
products, Digital combines the World Wide Web (WWW) paradigm with team
collaboration capabilities. The two applications add out-of-the-box team
collaboration to graphical web browsers such as Netscape and Mosaic,
providing point-and-click hyperlinks to corporate information in LANs,
WANs and across the Internet. Other features include online conferencing,
keyword searching and polling capabilities.

Workgroup Web is the easy, fun way to share information online and provides
a perfect starting point to the Internet. Working over any network
operating system, Workgroup Web takes advantage of existing file and print
services, incorporating their security attributes, and lets small teams up
to 25 members organize information by projects, activities, information
type, people or other categories. With or without an actual Internet
connection, the Workgroup Web shows users how Internet technologies can
improve existing business processes through the easy creation of informal,
ad hoc teams requiring minimal training. Workgroup Web is priced at $99
and runs on any Intel 80386SX (or greater) system with 8 MB RAM.

Workgroup Web Forum extends the capabilities of an Internet Worldwide Web
server, using Internet or TCP/IP LAN connections to provide unique
conferencing capabilities not available with existing web servers. By
enabling team members and web site visitors to communicate interactively
around the world through private or public connections, it greatly expands
business opportunities.

Workgroup Web Forum works with all graphics browsers on both private
corporate internets and on the Internet to enhance conferencing
capabilities and offer real-time polling. It takes advantage or additional
security capabilities like firewalls, gateways and encryption software.
Priced at $1,995, Workgroup Web Forum V1.0 will be available at the end of
October and runs on any Alpha or Intel server platform capable of
supporting Digital UNIX or Windows NT with the appropriate HTTP server.

PATHWORKS for DOS and Windows V6.0

The introduction of V6.0 of PATHWORKS for DOS and Windows is a major step
forward in removing the barriers from finding, accessing and managing
resources on expanding corporate networks. Employing the new directory
assistant feature, PATHWORKS V6.0 creates easy-to-understand terms for
network printers and files (such as 'Finance's Color PostScript Printer',)
facilitates information sharing among workgroups and simplifies system
administration.

PATHWORKS V6.0 includes the new Workgroup Web application, adding value to
existing NetWare, Windows NT and LAN Manager-based network operating
systems. Employing protected mode protocols, PATHWORKS V6.0 frees
conventional memory for use by applications. It also integrates Windows 95
clients today, providing unlimited access to OpenVMS and Digital UNIX
PATHWORKS servers. For simplified network administration, PATHWORKS V6.0
automatically gathers information on printers and shared directories,
enabling managers to build a more reliable and flexible network
environment. PATHWORKS for DOS and Windows V6.0 runs on any Intel-based PC
and is priced at $205. The upgrade price for existing PATHWORKS users is
$99. PATHWORKS V6.0 will ship in mid-November.

ManageWORKS Workgroup Administrator V2.2

Digital also announced today a new version of the industry's first
multi-NOS and SNMP management application, ManageWORKS Workgroup
Administrator. Version 2.2 now runs on Windows 95 and Windows NT platforms
(both Alpha and Intel) and includes several enhancements to simplify
administration of NetWare, LAN Manager, IBM and PATHWORKS network
operating systems.

A significant enhancement is the new Object Creator facility, which allows
integration of hundreds of DOS or Windows management applications with
ManageWORKS for any aspect of PC LAN administration. ManageWORKS also
integrates with enterprise management products such as POLYCENTER Manager
on NetView, enabling it to perform as a mid-level manager for workgroups
or remote sites.

Another enhancement to ManageWORKS V2.2 is the inclusion of a TCP/IP
protocol stack for use with Windows 3.x and Workgroup for Windows
desktops. ManageWORKS also supports third party TCP/IP stacks, including
the Microsoft stack provided with Windows 95 and Windows NT. ManageWORKS
Workgroup Administrator V2.2 is priced at $995 and will ship in
mid-October.
