EQUITABLE'S DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT IS ASSURED WITH CA-UNICENTER

"We're An Insurance Company, Not A Software House"

Computer Associates Solution To Manage Client/Server Environment
Nationwide

ISLANDIA, N.Y., August 30, 1995--Computer Associates International, Inc.
today announced that The Equitable Life Assurance Society --one of the
nation's largest and most established providers of life, pension and
annuity products-- has chosen CA-Unicenter as its enterprise management
solution for its nationwide, distributed client/server environment. Over
300 servers and 6500 workstations running The Equitable's agent
workstation, life administrative systems and all corporate administrative
systems will ultimately be managed by CA-Unicenter in 50 offices.

Two factors led to The Equitable's decision. First, CA-Unicenter provides
the MIS staff with single point control of network-wide systems. Second,
CA-Unicenter is the only integrated distributed systems management
solution, providing complete functionality without the addition of point
products.

"We are an insurance company, not a software house," said Leon Billis,
chief information officer for The Equitable. "We have no intention of
trying to piece together and migrate separate systems management software
packages from multiple vendors. Computer Associates has provided us with a
complete, integrated solution that has the same look and feel on multiple
platforms, operable from a central point of control --it's the roadmap to
our enterprise-wide strategic application implementation."

The Equitable also plans to take advantage of CA-Unicenter's software
distribution capabilities to deliver and install software and updates from
its headquarters in New York City to offices around the country.
CA-Unicenter/Software Delivery represents significant cost savings to The
Equitable, as updates can cost several hundred thousand dollars.

CA-Unicenter/Software Delivery provides automatic multi-platform software
distribution that is scalable, controlled, secure, scheduled and
auditable. "CA and The Equitable have a common goal -- to focus on our
business and provide the best solutions for our clients," said Richard
Chiarello, CA senior vice president. "By choosing CA-Unicenter, The
Equitable benefits from using the best enterprise management solution
while focusing on providing the best service to its clients."

CA-Unicenter ensures the safety, dependability and manageability required
for uninterrupted business-critical processing, adding integrity,
increased productivity and cost control. CA-Unicenter's approach to
distributed systems management differs from other solutions by providing
cross-platform integrated security, backup and recovery, user
administration, print management, job scheduling, software distribution,
and event management -- eliminating the burden of trying to implement
point solutions. With thousands of clients worldwide and partnerships with
all the major platform vendors, CA-Unicenter is the leader in distributed
client/server systems management.

Computer Associates International, Inc., (NYSE: CA) is the world's number
