Brio Technology and Prism Solutions Offer First Integrated Solution for
Seamless Access to Meta Data and Business Information

Brio's BrioQuery 3.5 and Prism Directory Manager 2.0 Provide User Access to
Data Warehouses

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- September 18, 1995 -- Brio Technology, Inc. and
Prism Solutions, Inc., today announced a strategic marketing and
development partnership that has resulted in the first solution to provide
seamless user access to meta data and business information. Until now,
users have not been able to take full advantage of the combination of
front-end access tools and meta data navigation products. As a result of
this partnership, Brio's BrioQuery 3.5 and Prism Directory Manager 2.0
share a dynamic link that provides users with a single, unified view of
their data warehouse.

Specifically, the integration of these two industry leading products gives
users the ability to launch BrioQuery by simply clicking on an icon
directly from Prism Directory Manager. This provides users a better
understanding of the data being analyzed for decision making purposes
because the user can identify what the data means and then easily retrieve
the data for analysis.

"Brio has validated our meta data standard for the data warehouse," said
Jim Ashbrook, president of Prism Solutions. "Customers are witnessing a
watershed moment in the data warehouse market evolution as vendors combine
their strengths to provide an integrated solution for meta data management
and data access in the data warehouse."
Brio and Prism Announce Partnership

"This is a perfect marriage of two leading technologies in the industry,"
said Katherine Glassey-Edholm, Brio's executive vice president of products
and marketing. "We believe users will benefit from this optimal product
architecture which combines the best of Prism's navigation capabilities
with Brio's desktop analysis."

About BrioQuery

BrioQuery is the complete, all-in-one query solution that features Anytime,
Anywhere Analysis. Designed specifically to maximize the value of data
warehouses, BrioQuery is based on a distinctive, open architecture that
eliminates redundant meta data and minimizes IT installation and support
efforts. Its unique design satisfies the four most important requirements
of a modern client/server information delivery system. BrioQuery:

* Minimizes total implementation cost with the industry's
easiest installation, lowest support requirements and shortest
  time-to-answer.

* Works the way users think by providing an all-in-one solution
for integrated access, analysis and reporting. BrioQuery supports
online/offline analysis through a built-in, persistent data engine.

* Supports next generation information delivery systems yet requires
no new infrastructure. BrioQuery connects to any database, works
identically on all desktops, features open meta data access and
provides optional Data Warehouse Direct Connect.

* Maintains system integrity through appropriate controls including
ADR for automatic report distribution and version control with
  repository-based administration.

BrioQuery is the first query solution to focus on the analysis of data, not
just the production of reports. BrioQuery users can work anywhere, anytime
because BrioQuery includes a desktop-based multi-dimensional analysis
engine that works even when disconnected from the database and network.
Through its trend-setting, interactive "DataPivot - style" interface,
unique to BrioQuery, users are able to gain insight into information
quickly and with confidence.

BrioQuery is available in three configurations: Designer, Explorer and
Navigator, each in identical versions for Windows, Windows 95, Macintosh,
Power Macintosh and Motif. BrioQuery ships pre-configured to access a wide
variety of databases with native connections to Oracle, Sybase, Red Brick
Warehouse and Informix. It also provides access to more than 50 other
databases via SequeLink, EDA/SQL, DAL and ODBC.

About Prism Directory Manager

Prism Directory Manager allows users to build, store and navigate an
integrated Information Directory of the meta data in a data warehouse.
Similar to the card catalog at a library, Prism Directory Manager assists
users in finding relevant information for analysis by providing both
business and technical views of what data is in the warehouse, where it
came from, how it was transformed and how it has changed over time. Users
can also create their own customized views of the meta data to fit their
particular requirements.

Prism Directory Manager imports meta data from several sources, including
the technical meta data collected by Prism Warehouse Manager during
warehouse development, as well as business meta data from CASE tools and
flat files. It offers a choice of server databases for the Information
Directory, including DB2, Oracle, Sybase and Watcom, and supports OS/2 and
Windows as the client operating system.
