AVDATA HELPS MOBILECOMM BUILD FOUNDATION FOR NEXT GENERATION OF WIRELESS
COMMUNICATIONS

$5.0 Million Contract Ensures High Reliability, Increased Bandwidth and
Lower Network Costs

ATLANTA, Ga. (September 27, 1995) -- MobileComm, the nation's leading
wireless messaging company, announced today that it has completed
conversion to its Mississippi 900 network, the first step in converting
the company's entire nationwide network to a system which could
revolutionize the paging industry.

This advanced system results from a five-year, $5.0 million equipment and
services contract with AvData and Glenayre Electronics.

In the initial phase of the contract, AvData will provide a primary
communications hub in Atlanta and disaster recovery back-up from a hub
located in Herndon, Virginia.

Using Glenayre-provided equipment, AvData will provide broadcast paging and
back-up services over 6 Ku-band SCPC satellite channels. At the same time,
two private satellite hubs will be constructed in 1996 by AvData and
Glenayre for MobileComm in Jackson, Miss., and Dallas, Tex.

In 1996, MobileComm will take over operation of the Jackson and Dallas
private hubs and operate a total of 11 Ku-band SCPC channels on two
separate satellites. AvData will continue to provide back-up disaster
recovery and other services from its hub in Atlanta.

"This system will give MobileComm the capability to substantially expand
the scope and reach of our paging services." Mark Witsaman, vice president
of engineering and technology at MobileComm, said. "Just as important, it
establishes the backbone for our NPCS (narrowband personal communications
services) network, the next generation of wireless communications."

The new network will have practically unlimited throughput required for
FLEX and future protocols as well as offering increased reliability. Plus,
MobileComm will be able to further offer customers enhanced or customized
features since centralized encoding permits multiple coverage zones and
frequencies within the company's overall nationwide network.

"We have always set the standard for the wireless communications industry,
and MobileComm is doing it again with this new network," Witsaman said.
"Ours will be the first direct broadcast network employing redundant
uplinks, encoding facilities and backup space segments on two satellites
in order to ensure network reliability."

With construction of the network targeted for completion by year's end,
MobileComm expects to save more than $10 million in network infrastructure
costs. These savings will be generated by eliminating the need for
encoding in local markets. Instead, the MobileComm system will be
communicating directly via satellite to more than 1,000 Glenayre paging
transmitters using Glenayre's GL-2000 paging control system and integrated
GL-S2164 satellite receivers.

The new system enables MobileComm to offer customers enhanced or customized
features since centralized encoding permits multiple coverage zones within
its overall nationwide network while maximizing the efficient use of
costly space segment resources. The two-satellite linking network was
designed for added reliability and long-term flexibility since it
accommodates faster communications today, supports the anticipated one-way
channels at FLEX speeds and will support the eventual NPCS implementation.
MobileComm is the first in the industry to utilize backup SCPC space
segment by linking to its transmitter sites on two separate satellites
simultaneously.

"We are extremely pleased and honored that MobileComm selected the
AvData/Glenayre team to provide the network expertise and services
required for a state-of-the-art implementation that leapfrogs the
competition," said Jim Black, CEO of AvData. "It underscores our long term
commitment to the paging industry and illustrates our capability to
implement--and service--advanced wireless solutions."

"Glenayre and AvData worked together with MobileComm to define and deliver
the most extensive and reliable satellite linking system in the paging
industry today," said Eric Meger, director - Glenayre's Satellite
Services. "We're dedicated to doing whatever we can to help MobileComm
maintain the highest possible levels of service for their customers."

Based in Jackson, Miss., MobileComm, the official paging provider of the
1996 Olympic Games, provides paging, voice mail and advanced messaging
services to nearly 2 million customers.

AvData Systems, Inc. provides turnkey systems integration and network
management services for wide-area networks involving terrestrial,
satellite and hybrid links. Capabilities include design, installation,
maintenance, migration solutions and value-added services. AvData's
solutions incorporate advanced technology, thanks to strategic
relationships with Glenayre and NEC, and a strong emphasis on quality and
customer service.

Glenayre Technologies, Inc., parent company of Glenayre Electronics, Inc.,
headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., is a worldwide provider of
telecommunications equipment and related software used in the wire- less
