Apple Brings Outstanding PowerPC Performance, Flexibility to Subnotebook
Class with New Macintosh PowerBook Duo 2300

New PowerBook Extends Apple's PowerPC Offerings, Gives PowerBook 200 Series
Customers an Easy Way to Upgrade to RISC-Based Computing

CUPERTINO, California--August 28, 1995--Integrating the high performance of
PowerPC microprocessor into its classic subnotebook line, Apple Computer,
Inc. today announced the Apple Macintosh PowerBook Duo 2300c. Based on the
100 MHz PowerPC 603e microprocessor, the PowerBook Duo 2300c reaches an
exceptional level of performance in a subnotebook computer. With this
announcement, Apple is also extending an investment protection for all
PowerBook 200 series customers by offering an upgrade path to
high-performance PowerPC technology at a lower incremental cost. The new
computers are expected to be available in stores in mid-October.

"By putting PowerPC processor and a larger display into a less-than
five-pound notebook, Apple lets the sophisticated Duo customer bring rich,
interactive presentations to their customers, clients and colleagues,"
said Steve Andler, Apple's senior director of mobile systems product
marketing. "The power of the 2300 allows customers, including multimedia
authors and automated sales force reps, to take full advantage of Apple's
multimedia technology, including QuickTime VR and QuickTime movies."

Macintosh PowerBook Duo 2300: Smallest and Lightest PowerBook The PowerBook
2300c maintains the same, award-winning form factor as Apple's previous
PowerBook 200 series notebook computers while offering an enhanced product
design centered around the PowerPC 603e processor and a larger, 9.5 inch
active-matrix color display. All Duo 2300s ship with 8MB or 20MB RAM,
expandable to 56MB and a choice of either a 750MB or a 1.1GB hard drive.
The centered trackball has been replaced by the improved Apple trackpad
pointing device which now gives customers additional "tap," "double-tap"
and "drag" capabilities.

"The PowerBook 2300c provides an excellent solution for the mobile business
professional who desires a powerful but lightweight notebook computer,"
said Dr. J. Gerry Purdy, editor-in-chief of Mobile Letter. "With portable
computers becoming the primary PC for most mobile professionals, companies
now realize that subnotebooks like the PowerBook 2300c represent their
most cost-effective solution."

Bundled software on the PowerBook Duo 2300c lets customers work, play or go
on-line without purchasing any additional software. Some of the software
titles bundled on the Powerbook Duo 2300 series include eWorld (which
includes a world-wide web browser), password security, compatibility and
communications software, on-line documentation and games including Eric's
Solitaire Sampler and two new titles licensed from Callisto Corporation:
Spin Doctors, an arcade game, and Super Maze Wars, a network-aware battle
game.

Complete Compatibility

The PowerBook 2300 series is fully compatible with existing PowerBook 200
series accessories, docks and peripherals. This means that the investments
made for previous 200 series products are extended into the 2300 series.
Additionally, customers wishing to upgrade their current Duos can do so
via a full logic board upgrade. All previous PowerBook Duo models
including the 210, 230, 250, 270c, 280 and 280c are fully upgradable to
the new processor technology.
