American Power Conversion announces HP Certified PowerNet SNMP Manager for
HP OpenView for Windows

APC named first vendor to obtain HP OpenView for Windows certification

PowerNet SNMP Manager provides graphical & menu-driven management of APC
UPSes on the network

September 27, 1995 -- (West Kingston, RI) American Power Conversion today
announced HP Certified PowerNet SNMP Manager for HP OpenView for Windows.
The "snap-in" GUI power management software tightly integrates into HP
OpenView for Windows, and is certified by Hewlett-Packard's HP OpenView
for Windows Development Group.

American Power Conversion is the first vendor from any industry to obtain
HP OpenView for Windows certification. "The HP OpenView for Windows
division is providing a rigorous certification program for third-party
applications to the HP OpenView for Windows platform. Meeting HP's
certification standards will be critical to ensure our customers receive a
quality application that is compatible with HP's OpenView for Windows
Workgroup Node Manager," said Todd Kimble, Marketing Manager, HP OpenView
for Windows.

APC PowerNet SNMP Manager is launched directly from the HP OpenView for
Windows enterprise map, and provides graphical and menu-driven management
of APC Uninterruptible Power Supplies on the network. PowerNet SNMP
Manager presents a user-definable desktop of power and environmental
information panes, while enabling the user to assert full control of the
UPS, as well as its operating parameters, through a menu-driven
interface.

"Resource specific management tools like PowerNet SNMP Manager are critical
in converting discrete, often cryptic, data into a real- time picture of
activity on the enterprise network." said Kevin Brown, APC's PowerNet
Product Manager.

The benefits of PowerNet SNMP Manager for HP OpenView for Windows include:

REMOTE SNMP UPS ALARMS WARN ADMINISTRATORS BEFORE PROBLEMS HAPPEN: PowerNet
Manager continuously reports over 20 UPS status conditions on the manager
desktop, allowing remote users to be made immediately aware of and respond
to critical situations affecting their network resources.

REMOTE SNMP UPS TESTING PREVENTS DOWNTIME: WAN administrators can remotely
test UPS resources or schedule automatic periodic battery tests using
PowerNet Manager for HP OpenView for Windows. This increases reliability
through automatic battery replacement notification and eliminates the need
for remote site operators.

CENTRALIZED MENU-DRIVEN CONFIGURATION TOOLS FOR REMOTE UPSES SAVES TIME AND
MONEY: In the event that the LAN administrator must change the UPS's
parameters, rather than physically visiting each affected system, the LAN
administrator may make all modifications from the PowerNet Manager for HP
OpenView for Windows screen. This saves time and money for other
administrative functions.

REMOTE POWER MONITORING, EASY PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS: PowerNet Manager for HP
OpenView for Windows allows users to poll remote UPS sites for a snapshot
of power conditions at the local installation. Once remote conditions have
been determined, administrators are able to take other remote actions,
like reconfiguration.

APC AND HP ASSURANCE OF SAFE AND PROPER OPERATION: HP's certification of
APC's PowerNet SNMP Manager for HP OpenView for Windows is a guarantee
that the PowerNet product is fully compatible when installed with HP
OpenView for Windows, and that the user interface is consistent with that
of the HP platform. Without this mark of compatibility, proper operation
and integration of third party software with HP OpenView for Windows is
not assured.

MENU-DRIVEN TEST UTILITIES FOR REMOTE UPS SITES: PowerNet Manager for HP
OpenView for Windows allows you to select windows to verify UPS status and
battery conditions at remote sites. Users may proactively launch tests of
the UPS system, or set the UPS to self-test periodically, to resolve
questions about the UPS status or conduct preventive maintenance.

VIEW SYSTEM INTEGRITY AT A GLANCE: The PowerNet Manager for HP OpenView for
Windows' main screen presents the user with a UPS status notification, as
well as 5 permanent status icons which display real-time representations
of critical UPS operations, the utility line, battery status, overload
warning and communication integrity.

REMOTELY DETERMINE SYSTEM CONFIGURATION AND OWNERSHIP: With PowerNet
Manager for HP OpenView for Windows, the APC UPS model and IP address
information are continually displayed on the manager desktop for easy
referral. In addition, the manager's menu-driven interface allows users to
store or retrieve information about where a UPS is located, what systems
it is protecting and who is responsible for it.

MONITOR REMOTE ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS WHICH MAY IMPACT YOUR SYSTEM:
PowerNet Manager for HP OpenView for Windows contains an interface pane to
APC Measure-UPS, an integrated environmental sensor and alarm device
management device. With Measure-UPS at the remote site, WAN administrators
can monitor temperature and humidity conditions, as well as four zones of
Form C dry contact inputs. PowerNet SNMP Manager for HP OpenView for
Windows joins PowerNet SNMP Manager packages for HP OpenView for UNIX, IBM
NetView for AIX, Digital PolyCenter and Novell ManageWise. Support for
additional SNMP Management Platforms is planned.

APC UPS systems communicate through software or hardware-based SNMP agents.
APC PowerNet Agent software products enable UPS control and monitoring of
fileserver equipment. APC PowerNet Adapters allow UPS control and
monitoring for internetworking equipment.

PowerNet SNMP Manager for HP OpenView for Windows ships on 10/02/95, with a
US list price of $199.
