Adobe Systems Announces Faster TrapWise With Improved Image Support

Seattle, Wash., (August 29, 1995) (Nasdaq: ADBE) -- Adobe Systems
Incorporated today announced Adobe TrapWise 2.5, a new version of the
company's electronic trapping software. For the Power Macintosh platform,
TrapWise 2.5 will let high volume prepress operators trap Adobe PostScript
and Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) language files four to ten times faster
than with previous TrapWise versions.

Other productivity improvements designed in the TrapWise 2.5 program
include the ability to knock-out trap zones so that small portions of
traps can be changed quickly if a file or the base artwork has been
modified at the last minute; the ability to read Scitex Continuous Tone
(CT) images, thus being able to trap all types of CT files; enhanced image
support to trap to high-resolution Desktop Color Separation (DCS) files;
and Adobe OPEN Tier 2 support so that TrapWise 2.5 can receive commands
and communicate within the Adobe OPEN workflow environment. A new trapping
engine will allow TrapWise 2.5 software to generate smoother traps up to
18-point, or one-quarter-inch, widths.

"We're designing TrapWise 2.5 software to be the ideal application to work
within OPEN," said Eric Bean, product line manager for Adobe Commercial
Prepress Products. "As the prepress industry moves more toward digital
technology, it will become increasingly important for time- and
labor-intensive tasks such as trapping to be automated within the
production workflow."

Additional TrapWise 2.5 Software Features

TrapWise software creates electronic chokes and spreads that meet or exceed
the standards of professional strippers. Additional new features found in
TrapWise version 2.5 will help prepress operators maintain consistent and
accurate traps.

Additional features include:

* Preflight features. Ink mapping will map inks among applications to
maintain consistent specifi-cations and will allow users to check these
specifications so that inks can be converted before a job goes into
production. Users will also be able to preview individual color
separations to catch errors prior to costly film output.

* User Interface Improvements. The Measurement palette will float and can
be resized. A new File Status palette will combine three dialog boxes to
show an at-a-glance assessment of a job in-progress including ink, font
and image link settings.

* OPI 2.0 support. TrapWise 2.5 will trap images linked through the Open
Prepress Interface (OPI ) version 2.0. Also supported in the Adobe
PageMaker 6.0 program, OPI 2.0 is the new standard for image replacement
developed by Adobe Systems.

System Requirements

The minimum system configuration for TrapWise 2.5 for the Power Macintosh
is an Apple Power Macintosh computer with 32MB of RAM of which 20MB is
available to TrapWise 2.5, a 500MB hard disk, System 7.1.2 or later, a CD
ROM drive, and a 14-inch color monitor with 16-bit video. The recommended
system configuration for TrapWise 2.5 for the Power Macintosh is a PowerPC
604-based Power Macintosh computer with 64MB of RAM of which 20MB is
available to TrapWise 2.5, a 1GB hard disk, System 7.1.2 or later, a CD
ROM drive, and a 14-inch color monitor with 16-bit video.
