STORAGETEK ACCELERATES NETWORK SYSTEMS CORP. INTEGRATION

July 20, 1995 -- LOUISVILLE, Colo. and MINNEAPOLIS -- Storage Technology
Corp. (NYSE:STK) today announced that it has accelerated the integration
of its Network Systems Corp. subsidiary at all levels.

The company said that it expects to be able to leverage growth
opportunities through combined marketing and sales processes and to
achieve cost efficiencies as well.

"Network Systems has made outstanding progress in recent months improving
processes at all levels of its business," said Ryal R. Poppa, chairman,
president and chief executive officer. "More recently, it has successfully
launched an array of innovative, differentiated products for the
internetworking marketplace. We are already seeing good indications of
success for products such as the Enterprise Routing Switch and the
Security Router, among others.

"We will continue to leverage this success through existing NSC channels
and by playing off their strong brand identity. At the same time, we hope
to build on this success by integrating NSC's field sales, support and
maintenance operations into those of StorageTek. With our much larger
customer base, we believe we can widen our market opportunity," Poppa
said.

While current NSC facilities and programs in Minneapolis, Massachusetts and
Virginia will remain in place, the organizations will report to their
respective counterparts at StorageTek in Colorado. In addition, the
company said that it will coordinate the manufacturing operations and
research and development operations with those of StorageTek.

The company is also working aggressively to integrate systems
infrastructure, such as administration, treasury, finance, human resources
and legal into counterpart operations in Colorado. As these transitions
take place, the company expects to reduce overlapping jobs, principally in
Minneapolis, by approximately 100 over the next six to eight months. NSC
employs approximately 1,100 people.

StorageTek said it expects to achieve annualized cost savings resulting
from the NSC integration of more than $12 million, but that for the
remainder of 1995 costs likely will exceed benefits by some $3 million to
$5 million. A portion of these costs -- approximately $2 million -- will
be taken as a charge to earnings in the current (third) quarter.

Storage Technology Corp. designs, manufactures, markets and services,
worldwide, information storage and retrieval subsystems for enterprisewide
computer systems and networks. The company reported revenue of $1.87
billion in its fiscal year ended Dec. 30, 1994. Information on StorageTek
