COMPAQ EQUIPS INFORMATION HIGHWAY HOUSE -- NETWORK OF COMPAQ PCS AT WORK IN
TECHNOLOGY HOME IN CALIFORNIA

HOUSTON, July 19, 1995 -- Demonstrating the possibilities of today's
technology for the home, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) announced
its participation in the Information Highway House, a model home believed
to be the first designed from the ground up as a working example of how
families can integrate computers and other technologies into their home.

Located near San Francisco, in Corte Madera, Calif., the Information
Highway House is a true representation of how information and
entertainment technologies can be practically and affordably used in the
home for easy use by family members. The home is based on a network of
Compaq PC and server products that are integrated with today's
leading-edge consumer hardware and software technologies. Open for public
viewing beginning July 22, the showcase home enables visitors to see
first-hand how families can take full advantage of available technology
and the emerging information highway.

The Information Highway House is not a house of the future, but a house of
today, since it features innovative technologies that are affordable, easy
to use and currently available, said Jim Tucker, vice president of
Compaq's Consumer Business Unit. This project is a perfect venue for
Compaq to showcase how its popular Presario home PCs work with its proven
server and notebook computers to enhance people's lives.

As Eckhard Pfeiffer, president and CEO of Compaq, stated in his keynote
address at this year's PC Expo, multiple PCs in the home are becoming as
common as multiple phones or TVs. Many industry experts agree that by the
end of this year, PCs will be in nearly 40 percent of U.S. homes, serving
as the central information appliance of our time -- a truly universal tool
for home and business.

The Information Highway House is in the Madera del Presidio residential
development in Corte Madera, and was built by HCV Pacific Partners/Pacific
Investors VI, a San Francisco-based development company. Computer Life
Magazine and Ziff-Davis Labs provided the technical planning and design.

Wired for the 90s

Five Compaq computers have been strategically integrated throughout the
Information Highway House, including a Compaq Presario multimedia PC in
each of the two children's bedrooms, a Compaq ProSignia VS server in the
office/den, and two notebook computers -- the powerful Compaq LTE Elite
and a member of the Compaq Contura value line to be used in the kitchen,
family room and on the deck. All of the PCs are networked together to
allow family members to share the software, hard drives, modems and
printers that are used for various entertainment, educational and
productive applications.

The ProSignia VS, an affordable, dependable and easy-to-manage server, acts
as the technological heart of the home. The Presario models each serve as
a complete telephone communications center, stereo sound system and
television set, and feature more than 20 pre-installed software titles in
a variety of categories, including on-line services, financial management,
family

edutainment, reference, productivity, presentation, home management and
games. The Contura and LTE Elite models allow family members to take their
computer projects wherever they want to work on them. Both units can be
quickly and easily converted to a desktop model when inserted into its
expansion base, giving users full access to the network and allowing them
to call up homework assignments, check stock quotes on America Online or
manage personal finances.
