CHIPCOM ANNOUNCES COMPREHENSIVE ATM NETWORK MANAGEMENT APPLICATION

Software Solution Controls ATM Devices and Virtual Connections

SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass., June 27, 1995 -- Chipcom Corporation (Nasdaq/CHPM)
today announced the ONdemand ATM Campus Manager, a software management
application that enables network administrators to analyze and manage
Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks, including virtual connections,
from a central workstation.

The ONdemand ATM Campus Manager provides centralized configuration,
performance and fault management of physical and logical ATM resources in
Chipcom's ONcore Switching System family, including the ONcore ATM
Switch/Control Point and Concentration Modules, and the company's ONsemble
ATM Workgroup Concentrator, as well as ATM connections between hubs.

Based on OSF/Motif and X Windows, the ONdemand ATM Campus Manager's
graphical user interface provides a strategic base for managing
connections among ONcore ATM modules. The graphical displays enable
network managers to monitor and control every segment of every hub down to
the port level.

By automatically detecting events and changes, the ONdemand ATM Campus
Manager allows network administrators to proactively monitor the
enterprise and enhance network performance by preventing problems before
they occur.

According to Terry Robinson, senior product manager, ATM products group, at
Chipcom, "Effective network management tools are always important to users
-- especially when migrating to new technologies such as ATM. We are
particularly pleased about being able to offer our customers a
comprehensive management application as part of our first wave of ATM
products."

Robust Management Solution

The ONdemand ATM Campus Manager is a portion of the network management
element of Chipcom's Cornerstone Networking Architecture (CCNA), the
company's strategic platform for helping customers transform existing
network infrastructures into tomorrow's high-speed virtual and switched
campus networks. This application, in conjunction with other members of
the ONdemand product suite, provides comprehensive management of
Chipcom-based local area networks (LANs), switched LANs and ATM networks.

By focusing on ATM network management, the ONdemand ATM Campus Manager
complements Chipcom's ONdemand Network Control System (NCS), the company's
management solution for non-ATM components of the ONcore Switching System.
These Chipcom products give customers a comprehensive network management
solution that spans today's LANs to the next generation of high-bandwidth
ATM networks.

The ONdemand ATM Campus Manager assists the network manager through its
ease-of-use, graphical interface, management and tracking of virtual links
and automation of management tasks. For example, an auto-discovery feature
creates maps of configurations based upon ONcore ATM Switching Systems.
These maps are automatically updated to reflect changes in physical link
status between ATM switches. Integration among AIX applications enables
network managers to navigate between expanded hub views of ONdemand NCS on
NetView for AIX and topology displays within NetView for AIX. ONdemand ATM
Campus Manager runs as a standalone application or integrated with the
ONdemand NCS suite of management applications.

The ONdemand ATM Campus Manager conforms to the ATM Forum UNI 3.0
specifications and Interoperability Engineering Task Force (IETF) ATM
standards. Chipcom is also involved with interoperability testing to
ensure the ONdemand ATM Campus Manager, and its entire suite of ATM
products, operate in multi-vendor environments.

Availability

Chipcom's ONdemand ATM Campus Manager for IBM NetView for AIX (Model
OND-ATM-NV) is available immediately. The company plans to offer ONdemand
ATM Campus Manager for Hewlett-Packard's HP OpenView platform later this
year.
