CABLETRON SIGNS MAJOR JAPANESE RESELLER AGREEMENTS

Deals With Toshiba Engineering and Japan Direx Corporation Further Expand
Cabletron's Presence In Japanese Marketplace

Rochester, NH -- July 19, 1995 -- Cabletron Systems, the worldwide modular
hub market leader (Dataquest, Incorporated; February, 1995), today
announced at the Networld + Interop Tokyo trade show two major reseller
agreements with Japanese companies further continuing the expansion of the
$871 million, U.S.-based computer networking company's presence in the
growing Japanese networking market. The agreements are effective
immediately.

The reseller agreements allow Toshiba Engineering Corporation and Japan
Direx Corporation (JDC) to sell Cabletron's complete line of
internetworking hardware and software in Japan, including its
industry-leading, intelligent hubs, network management platforms, and
Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) products based on its Synthesis(TM)
framework for migrating traditional router based networks to switched
based virtual networks. Toshiba Engineering and JDC will also provide
leading service, support, network design and installation as well as
training for its Japanese customers using Cabletron products.

"The company's Tokyo office has recently doubled in size and with these two
new agreements Cabletron has now positioned itself throughout Japan
through a total of seven reseller agreements," said Yuichi Murano,
president, Cabletron Systems K.K. in Tokyo, Japan. "Cabletron is
experiencing strong growth in Japan and is looking forward to a continued
increase in sales in 1995 as a result of the recent agreements."

growth of over 30% by 1998," said Trudy Barker, senior industry analyst,
Dataquest. "LAN switching is becoming a key element in this growth and
Cabletron is well positioned with its recently announced
Synthesisframework."

The Toshiba Engineering agreement provides Cabletron with an important
sales channel to many of Japan's leading companies while also providing
one of the best support staffs in the systems integration business. The
agreement with JDC further expands Cabletron's presence in the Japanese
market by providing sales and service expertise in 13 major cities
throughout Japan.

Cabletron has now signed seven reseller agreements in Japan and recently
announced the doubling of its Tokyo office after only one year of
operation.
